today has sucked, and I haven given up on my 300zx plans. let me give you a rundown of today.

I woke up this mornig, got ready to go to my class, hopped in the Z, and headed off for class. the plan was to go to class and then go to the shop to have a part replaced on the Z. well, I'm riding down the road for a while & I realize that car has changed tones and is louder than normal. I can't just stop in the middle of the road, so I drive to a store & park. I look at my oil pressure guage....and it is on 0. I am freaking out and decide to put some oil in it & pray that everything will be okay. I put oil in the top....and it drains out the bottom....I have to be in class in less than 10 minutes. luckly one of my friends happens to have stopped at the store for a soda, she gives me a ride to school....my class lasts a total of 10 minutes.....I have to find a ride back to my car. one of the customers that come into my store gives me a ride. I get the Z towed to the only shop in town I actually trust, I get there at 9. they inform me that I managed to melt my oil line.....they replaced the line for me, put oil in, and crank it up....no surprise, I spun/beat up a bearing....this is at 3;10....so guess what....I quit. I don't have the money to rebuild this motor, I don't have the time to do it since school just started back up. I really wanted to make this car something special, but I can't drive it for 2 days without something breaking....I just can't afford to keep putting money into it just to keep it running. so I am selling both my 300zxs, my brand new hks-ssqv bov, apexi avc-r boost controller, and ALL my spare parts. I really hate to do it, but I see no other valid option at this point in time.

okay, i have calmed down now and thought everything out. i have put plenty of money into this car already, and i was gonna sell it and get another project...but then all i would be doing is putting money into another car and starting lower than where i am at now, so i am just going to rebuild this one. just wondering if anyone knows of a good company to get a rebuild kit from. i saw this one, and i was wondering if anyone has dealt with them before, and if so how they liked it.

also, my buddy said that i would need a crank kit since i spun a bearing, and was wondering if anyone knew of a good dealer for those. this is the one i looked at, and i was wondering if it was worth it

please give me a hand here, i have decided to stay with my baby, now i need a couple of good specialists to nurse her back to health.

another thing is, now, i'm not that positive on the L series, but I think you'll need a line bore as well.

I'd say it's worth it though. Rebuild the engine a little beefier and you're off!

I think you'll just need the re-ring kit and a new crank. My dad has seized bearings on his race engine (a 66vw) and all he had to do was polish up the crank, linebore the case, and pop in a new set of bearings. I'm not really sure if it damages the crank much unless it's severe (sounding like it chucked a rod)

Yeah if its just a bearing its not like you have to buy everything new internal. Its ok though I feel your pain I was the same way when I blew my motor. I said thats it and was about to sell it. I cooled down, pulled the motor, rebuilt it and slapped a turbo on it and now have almost 325 to the wheels. Like Pop said though old cars do always require constant work and tinkering, but for most thats the fun part of it. On the bright side if you get a couple buddies to help you do it and not pay a shop to fix it, it could be a very good learning experience.

so, what would be required for him? line bore the same size, new bearings, and have the crank checked out? I'm pretty sure that's all my dad did when the thrust bearing on his car siezed, and i think that's all he did when he spun a bearing in one of his other cars. (the spun bearing wasnt an engine he built)

so do I need a full rebuild or just a new crank kit? I would love some advice from grumpy, cozy, or anyone else who can build a motor with there eyes closed. lol. thanks for the support, I guess the point of a project car is to be worked on, and if it is down for a few weeks/months oh well.

Cant you put a small block chevy in it? seems to me a rebuild is going to cost more then fixing that v6 that will simply break again someday,

to me personally, Z cars were built between 1970 and 1978 after that well, no comment, you might as well spend the money on a real 70s Z or on a real power plant chevy. But what do I know? I am just a newbie here.

guys, he doesn't have money.

im sure that if he had money to fix the bearing in any way shape or form, he would.

But even the cheapest of methods is probably not within the budget, and I can appreciate someone having to let go of a project due to things that are a bit more important.

go to school and try to keep a spot for the z somewhere (old persons house, pay them 50 a month or something, as long as you have it). or if it doesnt mean the world to you, I'm sure you can find a better car somewhere else at a later date.

Heck, I would try selling your new goodies first to get it back together. if that doesnt work, then store it if u really want that car.

I know that feeling. But how much money will be saved if only the crank is rebuilt and it spins a cam bearing a week after the rebuild?

Not money well spent in my opinion. The biggest expense will already be covered. How much extra are we talking to freshen up the rest of the motor?
