ArnZ
when they were available they were sold for $250 per side by dealerships. $500 in 1970 was a lot of money. I don't think they were that much.
Guest 280ZForce
$500 in 1970 was a lot of money. I don't think they were that much. I'm just going by what people with receipts of them from back in the day tell me. But maybe Tony D can confirm. Oh yeah, I'm going to have to pass on the covers. sorry, but I know you'll sell them fast if you haven't already. I was giving a lil cheaper brand new alternative option thats exactly the same thing. MJLamberson
maybe Im just naive, but I just dont see the point in spending that much on headlight covers.

ArnZ
so the medal trim bumps up the price 700$ Super rare space age metals, adds 30hp too! It is stupid to pay that much if you think it is stupid. If you are restoring a Fairlady Z correctly, nothing else will do. I will sleep with them everynight until they get installed. m1ghtymaxXx
I'll have to figure out a way to make trim rings for the cheaper covers
psdenno
I'll have to figure out a way to make trim rings for the cheaper covers You'll have no trouble selling them when /if you do. This seems to be a "hot" topic at the moment because of the sets on ebay. They probably wouldn't be so rare & expensive if a couple thousand people didn't each have two or three sets stashed away for possible use some day. srgunz
I worked at a Datsun Dealership. Back in 1978 we sold these factory covers for $160 a pair. Was considered expensive at the time.
Challenger
Are headlight buckets that have the original factory cover mounts worth anything?
psdenno
Are headlight buckets that have the original factory cover mounts worth anything? How do the JDM trim pieces mount to the headlight buckets - machine screws or self tapping screws?

Vintage
The lens on the original style actually goes over the bucket like the trim ring, doesnt it? Not flush like the new style? Dat240ZG, maybe you could attach them with double sided tape? I've wondered what the old covers would look like with a Type 3 front for awhile, and yours is a stunning execution anyway. Your car is an absolute inspiration.

psdenno
ArnZ, Any chance you could measure one of the headlight cover mounting plates that attach to the headlight bucket for me (length, width, thickness)? I have a set of covers and trim rings, but no mounting pieces. Thanks!
