ridin_Z_alb
gonna kinda sound newbie which rb series engine has the most torque output to horsepower? i wanna know before i sell/buy anything i heard of rb26dett making over 600hp on stock internals but does it have 600 ft. lbs. of torque? mattyice
from what i have seen it makes slightly less torque, but that doesnt mean you should pick an engine purely just because it has torque Torque can suck when you get up to high amounts like you are talking about, on the street they do nothing but turn into burnout machines...thats how i feel i would say your best bet for torque vs HP in an RB is an RB30 block with an RB25 head
ridin_Z_alb
mostly i'm looking for a good torque long torque curve im looking to drag race and throwing around ideas about engines mostly all the high horsepower rb26's i've seen are 700 hp with 550 ft. lbs. which seems kinda weak
mattyice
550 ft. lbs is not even close to weak remember this is going in a car that weighs anywhere from 2400-2700 lbs... you will never see initial torque in an RB like you would in V8 engines, RB's need big turbos to make power like that and its going to take time for them to spool, drag racing will be different but look at RIPS car that has an RB30 block and an RB26 head i believe...its running 9 flat
Careless
if you're shooting for over 550 ft lbs of torque and 700+ hp, don't even consider the RB25 head on an RB30. go straight to the RB26 head, or get a 2JZ. Anything below 500 hp, I think the RB25/30 head is perfect combo for RBs.
ridin_Z_alb
don't the rb26 heads have horrible low to midrange torque because they don't have the vvt that the rb25 heads do? oh yeah thoughs numbers were from a import tuner i saw awhile back, said it had 700hp or something and had 550 ft lbs
mattyice
they have VVT on the exhaust side and HKS makes a VVT kit for the intake cam that makes the power and torque INCREDIBLE
J Taylor
If you want a setup with lots of torque, RB is not the way to go.
ZDrifter
You want torque? Get a cummins. Havent seen that swap yet.
Careless
they have VVT on the exhaust side and HKS makes a VVT kit for the intake cam that makes the power and torque INCREDIBLE yeah i've been looking into that kit. might snatch it up if it's a good buy. I haven't heard of anyone stateside that runs it though (or anyone speaking english, for that matter) and as far as i know, its VCT for nissan, no? I just looked at the HKS V-CAM setup A & B, and it has a low valve lift height, and it requires special pistons for the wide adjustment version (. It also requires a whole other processing device too, which would probably be fidgety with an EMS as a primary. The valve lift puts me off and it's 4000
BirdmanZ
The Rb motors have VCT on the Intake cam not the Exhaust.
mattyice
are you sure? i always heard they were on the exhaust side and there was a mod to add it to the intake side (HKS system) HKS Nissan Skyline BNR34 (650hp) its crazy how much it changes the performance of the car

stony
I made 433 FTLBS torque with 598 RWHp after 6 runs on the dyno, thru a powerglide with an rb26
J Taylor
My best has been 424 ft lbs with 594 hp through a th350....on 93 octane and a bone stock rb25. My l28 turbo did 420 ft lbs with only 388 hp through the T5.
Cal Poly Zmanaustin
I made 433 FTLBS torque with 598 RWHp after 6 runs on the dyno, thru a powerglide with an rb26 Clint, No one likes a showoff....except me maybe. Wow, those are awesome numbers. When are you hitting peak boost?
stony
Around 5500 rpm haven't really looked at that yet. Still trying to get a smooth torque line. once we get it smooth then its time to play with timing to try and get power sooner.
ridin_Z_alb
If you want a setup with lots of torque, RB is not the way to go. mostly i was looking for a good balenced setup good torque to get off the line quick, and keep me ahead the rest of the way and to make the v8 guys have to explain to all their buddies why they lost to a import
240swapped
i still don't understand why anyone would want more than 550 ft. lbs. in a z anyways. is there anything you can do to make it hook up with that much? i'd rather full throttle it down the track with 400 than have to half throttle it all the way down with 550+. i think it'd be too much work to get a good time out of the car, assuming you're trying to make a dyno queen/ET bragger.
