E46 Bi-xenon Projector Retrofit Done!

Recommended Posts

I just got my new(old) Z a month ago.

First thing I wanted to do was to improve visibility at night,

which only can be done right by retrofitting projectors.

I had a set of E46 Bixenon projectors to use on this retrofit.

A picture is worth thousand words. Here we go.

Nice job, I've been looking for ways to put projectors into a Z, I was thinking about maybe cutting up a set of Mini-cooper lights or maybe honda fit lights, but they're all too large for the Z. Cutting down the casing like you did might work well though. I was also thinking about having a Lens cover made to install projectors into as a bolt on unit. They wouldn't be cheap though since i'd have to have moulds made. Actual Glass would be very expensive too, though much better than clear plastic.

Nice job on yours tho, I love the bathroom plumbing parts. better seal up the back of them w/ silicone or something to keep water from behind.

Is there an arita speed s30 gnose? Ive only seen the ZX version sold by 280zforce.

I believe Arita speed kit for S30 doesn't exist here in the states.

so I bought it over from Japan through a broker.

Picture of the kit.

How much would one expect to pay for a set of the E46 lights? Very interested in doing this myself...

E46 Projectors + OEM HIDs are fairly cheap.

I bought it from the ebay for $250 couple years ago.

It's not the best projectors, but it's good enough for me.

and rest of the hardware will cost you about $30.

VERY nice work and thank you for sharing your conversion step by step. :2thumbs:

I just installed aftermarket HID's in my E36 M3 with Euro Ellipsoids lenses earlier this week and from the pictures, I think I'd prefer your E-46 HID’s light beam pattern. Yours appears to have broader even light beam spread, less rainbow at the edges, etc...

Hmmm… Gonna have to start digging around to see if I can somehow use the E-46 HID now… news.gif

If you want real crisp cut off and wider beam pattern, get a s2k projectors for single xenon or TL projectors for bixenon.

They have stanley projectors and they are known to be one of the best projectors out.

You can gather lots of information from hidplanet.com/forums

you can also find good used OEM projectors + HID from the same forum.
