It started out as a simple buy it, make it reliable, make it fast, make it easy project. Well we all know where those go. So now I am in process of acquiring a newer miata rear end and either the front suspension from an e36 or e30. as well as finishing up the body work and finishing up the wiring up the scratch built wiring harness. so here is a pic of the car in the for sale thread.

well, lets just say the pictures where a bit deceiving, as the wiring harness has been rigged, beaten, hacked, burnt, melted and used. The body looked ok until you got closer, then you would start to see things like massive waves in the body lines, body lines being wider and smoother then they are supposed to be..etc atleast there isnt any serious rust and all the damage is reversible.

recently i started to strip certain area's of the car to remove various spoilers and to prepare for bigger flares and paint, only to find out there is about a 1/4 inch of bondo on the rear quarters and that the molded in spoiler was a cheap hack job.

this improper way to eliminate emblems, that it fiberglass, they smoothed it out with lead and bondo.

look what i carved out of bondo! a 240z quarter panel!!!! (litteraly used a chisel and hammer)

gonna finish taking the rear to metal and then i get to re install the subtle z rear flares and or install IMSA flares.

now here is the motor, nothing spectacular for a SBC, but is built just right for this car, plans in the future are yellow ls6 valve springs, flat tappet lifters, chromoly rocker arms with stud girdles, aluminum/electric water pump, high torque mini starter and to get those hooker headers s30 sbc conversion headers cleaned and coated.

so now lets move on to the interior, nothing special yet, autometers..blah.blah.blah other then that its stripped.

stock s30 dash puked its guts out when i pulled it out.

Nice car, sorry to hear about the bondo dillema. I had a similar problem, I uncovered a spot that looks like a branch fell right next to the hatch, luckily the previous owner had the metal repaired at a bodyshop so all I have to do is the bondo work again...

a little bit of an update, apparently making beer runs in a car with only headlights, no exhaust, no dash, no hood, no plates and won't idle below 950RPM with no registration is illegal in california and apparently there are two deffinition of the word "donuts and "doughnuts" but its cool and he escorted back to my house.

At least the officer understands the necessity of having some relaxants while working on a datsun.

alright, something is dragging in m brake system, i used to be able to push and pull it with ease to get it into and out of the garage, now i need the truck to pull it and two people to push it i? e-brake is completely disconnected, so I'm gonna pull the drums off and check it all out.

(also got my dash in last night!)

I saw in the first post, you were talking about a newer miata rear end. Why? Specifically, why the Miata rear over either a longnose r200 or even a shortnose? I'd understand wanting the Miata suspension, but the rear end?

Factory available LSD's?

Yeah, I'd be very interested in what it takes to install Miata rear end in, and what a miata rear end can stand up to. It's not going to be a bolt in swap is it?

these two pictures explain whats going to be involved with that project.

and maybe a tape measure too, the biggest task i see currently is not going over board on my ramcharger and forgetting about this project.
