datsun280zx
My car has been sitting for a while and I recently did an oil change and put new gas. I also put new fuel injectors & filter. It running good now but there is white smoke coming from the exhaust. I checked everything and can't find anything wrong. Any ideas what it might be? I didn't find anything when I searched
big-phil
look in the radiator. Is there oil in the coolant? Could be the beginnings of a head gasket going out?
datsun280zx
I checked it. No oil in the coolant
eec564
How much white smoke? Lots and LOTS? Blue-ish tint? Whisps from the tailpipe that go five feet?
jc052685
Some tomes happens on motors that have been sitting...... Pour in a quart of tranny fluid, go drive the snot out of it then change it again. Still might smoke but even if it does it should clear up after some time on the road. I bought a 79zx that had been sitting forever. Drove it onto the trailer when I bought it, smoked like crazy! Drove it for a while and it cleared up. datsun280zx
Kind of lot. I was thinking it might clear up but I thought I'd ask just in case
eec564
Is the car full of oil? Is the oil milky? Do you have oil pressure? How long was it running? What year is the car?
datsun280zx
The oil is good and it was running for about 20 minutes. Its a 83 N/a

Daniel280zx
bought my 79 280zx from an old man who had it sitting in his garage for 12 years! he said he started it about once a year and it smoked a little when i got it. drove it around for about an hour and it cleared up. good luck with it
datsun280zx
Hey I was cleaning out my garage and I found the bottle for the oil I put in. I noticed that it said synthetic and was wondering if that could be causing the smoke
Daniel280zx
Im not 100% sure but i really dont think that synthetic oil would be the cause for the smoke, oil is oil. The only thing i could think of is that synthetic can tend to leak sometimes from older motors because it can be thiner sometimes as opposed to your standard oil maybe its leaking from the head gasket or something. What was the weight of the oil 10-40 or 10-30 or something like that.
jerryb
A long shot but are the injectors the correct size? If they are too big you may be running rich. Is it running strong or is it a bit flat on power?
datsun280zx
Its running pretty good but seems like it could be better. I'm not sure never drove it before my dad started restoring it
