Repair estimate - Auto Transporter nightmare

I need help from local 240z - 280z owners. (Dallas, Texas)

Long story short, my 1976 280z was transported from LA to Dallas. During the transportation, my car was damaged. The roof is dented and scratched. The entire hatch glass is broken, several dents and scratched area.

I’ve called around few local Nissan dealerships and none of them are willing to provide repair/parts estimate due to the age of the vehicle.

So, where the heck can I take my car in to get an estimate?

Pics may help with guestimates from members, I'm no where near Tx so I couldn't tell you any locations.

I would get in contact with whoever you had ship it and do as mutch bi***ing as possible to get them to cover atleast part of the repairs.

Here's the long story, if anyone wants to read about it.

On 10/23/09, I hired Direct Express Auto Transport to pick up my car from Los Angeles, CA to Frisco, TX.

Direct Express Auto Transport assigned my vehicle to Alborz Trucking on 10/23/09.

Alborz trucking repeatedly told me they would pick up my car day after day since Monday, 10/26/09.

I waited a total of 7 days when the car was ready to be picked up. Fail to pick up my car in 7 days, I called Direct Express Auto Transport and notified them of the problem.

Direct Express Auto Transport reassigned my order with Bher Inc. on Monday, 11/2/09.

Bher Inc. picked up my car on Monday as scheduled. However, this is where the drama begins. Bher Inc. over promised and under deliver by making false promises.

Bher Inc. notified me that they would deliver my car since Friday, November 6th. I waited all day, no car and no phone calls. Received a call next morning stating they had some truck problem (A tire blow out and broken axle) and that it would be delivered on Sunday, November 8th. Once again, I waited all day and no phone call.

Again on Monday, November 9th, no car, no call.

I also made several phone calls to Direct Express Auto Transport of the situation and requested a follow up with Bher Inc. On all calls, I've asked them several times if my car was OK. Bher Inc. told me that my car was fine.

When I called Direct Express Auto Transport on Wednesday, November 12th, they said they received a called from Bher Inc. and that my car will be delivered late afternoon or early evening. I waited all afternoon and evening and no car and no call from Bher Inc. I called Bher Inc that evening but this time, the phone number was either disconnected or no longer in service. I received an automated message from the carrier service. ''The person you have called is unavailable and please try again later.''

Myself or Direct Express Auto Transport could not reach anyone. At this time, I was ready to file a stolen vehicle.

On Friday, November 13th, I finally received a call from the driver stating that he was in Dallas and that he'll be over in an hour. I rushed home from work to meet the driver.

As he pulls in, I see my car in the middle of the lower deck. (I couldn't see the rear hatch) at the time.

The driver gets out and tells me he has a bad news......

This is where I was ready to knock his A** out. I was so furious, I had to call the police. If not, I know for sure I would of gotten arrested for assault.

So, what should of taken 2 days to deliver, it took 22 frustrating days with a damaged car.

After 29 days later....I'm still waiting on the insurance company to send their adjuster to review the damage........tick tock, tick tock.

ALMOST looks as if they'd lowered the upper deck on top of it for part of the journey, or too low to account for the bouncing of the cars down the road, with that in mind give the rear suspension a thourough lookin over just to see if everything is still straight on the underside, if they pushed down on it it coulda tweaked something

best thing I can tell you is to call up a lot of the classic repair shops and see if they give estimates on a car that old. It's up to you , but the law says you can take your car whereever you like to have it fixed. Though they only have to pay fair repair prices. if you were here in NM I could recommend a couple good shops, but in Dallas, I'm clueless.

You might also check with Hagarty insurance, Classic Car insurance, they do Appraisals, they might know who to talk to in the least...

Good luck

Howdy-

Jerry does not do bodywork to the best of my knowledge- only parts and engine work(?)

That looks alot like Mike Quan's ride (ZCOT member), but I forget what year his was...

If you really want to stick it to them, you might see if that ol' boy up in Gainesville is still in

business..Here, I found it. Bob Smith Coachworks:

Bob Smith Coachworks, Inc.

1600 Floral Dr.

Gainesville, TX 76240

bsmith@bobsmithcoachworks.com

Telephone: (940) 668-8622

FAX: (940) 665-4657

I'm really sorry to see that happen- hope you get her back on the road soon and get your

just due with the transport co. Hopefully this info will help some.

As someone with some autobody experience (Harvard on the Hill, ftw) it doesn't appear to be more than cosmetic, other than the glass.
