logan1
I'm trying to install a L28et motor in my 240Z and was wondering which head is better the P90 or the hydraulic P90A.
BluDestiny
Almost doesn't matter for performance. P90a has quite hydralic lifters, p90 has solid. I would use whichever one is cheaper Edited January 12, 2011 by BluDestiny
Nelsonian
Another deciding factor comes into play if/when you want to change out the stock cam now or in the future, as the p90 will allow for this.
DuoWing
I would say don't even get too hung up on that because if you wanted to, for not very much money the P90a can be converted to use the solid lifters/cam. I purchased the thread inserts fairly cheaply if I remember correctly. I had planned to convert my P90a, I still do, but I got ahold of a rebuilt P90 and went with that. Tony D
Just because it says P90A on it, DOES NOT automatically mean it is 'hydraulic'... The heads are identical from a functional standpoing, 'there is no best' as well.
ezzzzzzz
Yep, Tony. I've got two P90A heads and both are mechanical.
Quetzalcoatl71Z
I remember something on wikipedia saying that the later p90a heads had problems of some sort. It was on the 280zx wikipedia i think when you scroll down to the 82-83 part. But I think they mentioned it was because they were hydraulic that the p90a's were a problem. I will be doing the same swap to my car so it would be good to know which head is better and why.
Tony D
I would not quote wikipedia here... It is not considered 'authoriative' by any shape or measure!
