datsundave
Has any one else seen the hood tension rods replaced with small struts? I saw them some where and now I can't find them. If you have seen this please let me know? Thanks For Your Help Edited January 13, 2011 by datsundave
JMortensen
They aren't small struts. That would not work. You're probably thinking of adjustable T/C rods which are used to change caster settings. Techno Toy Tuning and Arizona Z car and others make them. waddiejohn
I think he is talking about the mechanism that keeps the hood open and removing them and installing the gas cylinders like those used to hold the hatch open.
Administrators RTz Posted January 13, 2011 Administrators Share Posted January 13, 2011 Jon, I think he is talking about 'hood lifts'. I've seen the conversion as well. I'll do some digging when I get a break. EDIT: Drats, Waddie beat me to the punch.

I think the hood lifts are what I'm looking for they use a gas strut instead of tension rods. The tension rods are taken off and you mount a gas strut to the the car and other end is on the hinge mount some thing like this don't know munch some details may not be wright. LanceVance
Almost $200 shipped for something that does the same job as a part you already have, and doesn't do anything performance wise... that's a hard pill to swallow. That being said it the tension bars are a pain to work with, plus it might make it easier to place an intercooler, and I'm already removing the hinges to have them replated... Might have to look around for another source, or bite the bullet with these... anybody ever order from these guys before?
JMortensen
I ordered the panel right above the license plate from zraceproducts. They shipped it out quickly at a good price. I am going with a pin on hatch, and they even deleted the hole for the latch mechanism. I wouldn't hesitate to buy from them again.
LanceVance
Jon's recommendation is all I need. I guess I'll give this thread a while to see if anyone posts another source, but if nothing comes up I might have to get these too... I have bought gas springs from them for custom hood hinges I made and to retrofit some on another project. Small ones that look like the ones in that kit start around $10 each and can come rated from 15lbs to 130lbs.
Apollyon12
It sure looks like that could be DIY'd if you had a little skill. It didn't look $150 complicated to me. But I would have to take another look at how it might work before completely knocking it.

I just think $200 is a little much as someone else said. But it would be nice for fitting an intercooler.

Nizm0Zed
fwiw, i did this temporarily with my FG bonnet, it flexes it when its closed, making it push up on one side. Maybe not worth considering if you dont wanna keep the standard steel bonnet....
