  1. Edelbrock makes a couple of carb manifolds that fit the Vortec bolt pattern.
  2. Sorry to be a stick in the mud... but... Keep your racing on the track. Too much fun on the freeway and you wont have the car very long... Also, highway hot-doggin' causes accidents, which drives up insurance rates on these cars, gives the hot rodding hobby a bad name, and ultimately leads to many legislative attempts to kill this hobby. Congratulations on your maiden voyage.
  3. Hah! I love the subtle contrast of the "fear this" sticker on the front windshield and the "Rhode Island" fishing sticker on the back window... Did anyone notice that there are two cell phone holders on the dash... I guess one is for the booty calls and the other is for the parents to keep tabs on him? Where are the big 22'' hoops??? Can't be cool without those. The picture of him by the trunk towards the end just says it all.
  4. 5foot2, why did you have to post that... the sight made me shudder...
  5. I think you got a good deal! Congrats! I would have taken it in a heartbeat.
  6. That engine just looks so right at home in there, you wonder why the factory didn't put those in.
  7. What the hell is that??? Yes, I read it... but still the question remains...
  8. Also check over at www.vfnfiberglass.com VFN has been around for awhile and makes mostly parts for older American musclecars. Their reputation for quality is very good. Their webite says that they will be releasing Datsun fenders soon. They may even be out already. I've read some pretty negative reviews of parts from Showcars-bodyparts.
  9. The "stinger" hood is probably my favorite hood design of all time. (The hood on the '67 pictured above). I'm planning on getting one for my '68 Camaro at some point.
  10. Hooray for first gen Camaros! I have a '68. Lowering that 60' time will help you out a bit. Most of the first gen Camaro guys I see in the 11s are running down in the mid 1.60s... but then again most of them are running automatic transmissions. Many are running SSM Lift Bars with success as well to get the times down. You should also be able to fit 28 or 29'' tires in those wheel wells and get a bit more grip. I agree that with that cam (same cam I have in my Camaro by the way) you can get lower into the 12s, but you would be time ahead switching to a solid, flat-tappet cam in the 240* range, and topping the engine off with something more akin to a Victor Jr. manifold. The 462 heads are a very good factory head from that time period. I can't really say how well they can be made to flow, but judging from the past timesheets they seem up to the task! I would still think that something like the Dart Iron Eagle 215cc head or Pro Topline 200cc head may flow better. (sticking with iron to maintain your period-correct look). The intake runners on the 462 are only around 165cc from the factory... Also, if you haven't been over there... www.camaros.net is a really great site for first gen Camaros. There are loads of guys in the 11s and many have posted their setups. Check out the forum and do a search. Off the top of my head, a user who goes by "Eric68" has a combo that might interest you. Pretty streetable 383 pulling low 11s if I remember right.
  11. I wonder why it is that these headers are only around $300 whereas almost all other commercially sold headers for turbo applications are closer to $1,000? Is it because of the design being less than ideal (primary lengths being so different)? But even the Banks turbo manifolds are around $800 if I remember right though.
  12. Ask and ye shall receive. But first... you can't really take DD2000 as 100% accurate. It may be close, may not be... take the numbers for comparison purposes. 355 cubic inch with first solid, flat-tapped cam and 462 casting heads (one of the better flowing factory heads of the 60s). 10.5:1 compression, and "single plane" manifold (equivalent to the Edelbrock Victor Jr.). 398 horses @ 5500rpm, 418 ft. lbs. torque @ 4500rpm. If you up the cubes to 383... 392 horses @ 5500rpm, 436 ft. lbs. torque @ 4000rpm. With the second cam... all else being the same. 355 cubic inches = 403 horses @ 5500rpm, 429 ft. lbs. torque @ 4500rpm. 383 cubic inches = 399 horses @ 5000 rpm, 450 ft. lbs. torque @ 4000rpm. Now, if you were to run with some better flowing heads (a little more appropriate with these cams)... say the AFR 210cc head. First cam ... 355 cubes = 469 horses @ 6500rpm, 440 # torque @ 4500rpm 383 cubes = 474 horses @ 6000rpm, 465 # torque @ 4500rpm Second cam... 355 cubes = 488 horses @ 6500rpm, 448 # torque @ 5000rpm 383 cubes = 480 horses @ 6500rpm, 475 # torque @ 4500rpm
  13. Hi Hashi, I'm sure plenty of people have done a 305 swap. Externally, the 305 is the same as any other small block, so the install procedure shouldn't be any different. However, you can't really make a 305 into an old 302. The 305 uses a long stroke and relatively small bore. The old 302 used a big bore and short stroke. However, you can still make a 305 work well enough with some better cylinder heads than from the factory. Use the "search" function. Lots of info on the site about all small blocks, including LS1 swaps.
  14. Things you might want to know your welder is up to: fabbing motor mounts, building a roll cage, welding on a trailer hitch, making a driveshaft loop, making subframe connectors, etc. Before I bought a welder, I "test drove" both the MM 135 and 175. I also thought the 175 struck a more consistent arc.
  15. I agree, always buy more welder than you think you'll need.
  16. If you're interested in reading some posts about this device, you can check over at www.pro-touring.com in the forums. The guy who designed and sells the paddle shifter is a member over there.
  17. Thanks for posting that Z-Tard. Those are awesome cars. I didn't know there were so few originals around. I know FFR makes replicas now.
  18. Congrats on the purchase!
  19. That seems like a really strange spot to have a big rust hole... on top of the fender that is. Let the fun begin!
  20. Nice car, but if I were going to throw down $500 large, I'd hope it would do better than mid 11s at 130mph. He'd have a pretty big frown on his face if you whooped him with a Z that had a total of $20k in it.
  21. Link says that the auction has been removed. Awesome though... most people overlook the Buick 455, but it is a great powerplant.
  22. If you like the earlier 'Vettes... check this out. http://www.kerrst.com/hotrods/vette.htm
