My 4 wheel disk brake upgrade.
Empire replied to Avernier's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Looks great. I'm going with almost the same set-up. I'm using the non vented rotors in the front though (got a package deal off someone so the price was right). You can use the 280zx calipers, just not with the 300 rotors. -
I still want to do a twice pipe system on the car, but with a twist. I was in the junkyard today and to my surprise there was a late 60's TR6, with a pretty solid body, up on top of another car. Tlhe pipes caught my eye right away. It's got dual pipe dual exhaust (4 pipes). The mufflers were swiss cheese, but I just riffed off the pipes anways. I figure I can cut off the pipes and make something sexy out of them for the Z. Has anyone ever run a dual system with with dual tips/pipes like these? For $20 I figure hey why not, didn't wanna leave empty handed. I was thinkind to get a Y junction and weld them up to the cherrybombs I already have sitting on my bench. These look like an old ANSA or Monza, but there's no tips its all pipe (3 feet long with a nice S curve then slash cut ends).

I'm a car nut. I'm 25, and I have 4 cars and now a bike. My daily driver is an 07 Alitma. It gets me to work and home, that's it. I've also got a '90 Mustang 5.0 trunk (stupid, loud, handles like a shopping cart, but puts a 10 year old's grin on my face), a '68 Lincoln Continental with suicide doors (I love big cars, and this one is the mac daddy to me). Then there's my 240. It's on stands, torn apart, costing me a small forutne and taking up a lot of time. I've wanted one for years, and I still think it's got some of the sexiest lines ever. When my brother's brother in law (21 year old) talks about his 350z I just have to mention the 240 and command the respect it deserves from all other generations of Z. I'm such a prick.

looks cool, still doesn't answer my ? though. Do you think that running twice pipes with 1 and 3/4 all the way then exiting to 2 and 1/4 glasspacks is ok?
-
so I'm pretty sure the header ends at 1 and 3/4 inch diameter for each pipe (theres 2). It`s either that or 1 and 78`s, i forget. If I run either of those size pipes for duals (just like the twice pipe design), and then use reducers to expand it to the 2 and a quarter inlet of the cherry bombs is that good for size, or is it still too overkill and too much pipe diameter

Headers on, car wont stay running
Empire replied to gb20's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
probably the settings on the carb. I doubt the header or pipes would be causing that much of an issue. -
Stainless Gas tank straps for 240Z
Empire replied to jerryb's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
PM'd you Jerry -
PM sent. you've got enough material for twicepipes? Will dual 2.5's be too big for a pretty stock motor? L28 with early SU carb setup, taylor wires, pertronix conversion with flamethrower coil.

Stainless Gas tank straps for 240Z
Empire replied to jerryb's topic in S30 Series - 240z, 260z, 280z
Count me in, I'm super close. I'll pick them up, even buy you a coffee -
can't think of truck shops carrying 2.25 stuff. I drive trucks almost daily for work, and everything from intercoolers to exhaust is usually pretty large stuff.

well since I hate doing mailorder, and with the shipping and exchange and all that, I'm making my own pipes. I had a pacesetter/msa/monza style 3-2 header that was crusty (came with the car and all the other extra parts). So I sandblasted, primed with VHT flameproof coating, and painted with VHT black header paint. ($25 in materials). Today I was at Crappy Tire and picked up 2 Cherry Bom Glasspacks ($55 for both) that are 2 1/4" inlet and outlet. Also instead of some really fany tips I got this rolled stainless endcap that just pops in there ($22 for both). So far I've spent about about $100, and all I need now is the pipe to connect it all. Any idea what it should cost? Stainless would be best but is it that much more? I figure with exachange rate and shipping I'd be at over $300 for the MSA stuff, and all the hassle of mail order. Anyone in Toronto that can suggest a place to make me up some mandrel bent pipes?

i did a search and only found one person who did this, but wanted to hear from more people. I've got Tokiko HP's, Eibachs, and the red poly master kit from Energy Suspension. Do you have to cut the bumpstop when putting it all together? I didn't want to just cut up a new piece that took so long to get (Canada). If you do cut, how much should you cut? Also, I know it's been brought up before, but does anyone have part numbers for the Eibach springs which state which spring is for the front and which is for the rear? i've heard use the shorter one for the front, but some people say the other. I can't find any part number for the z on their website listing.

paint mine ZR8ED ! I'm close by. Met you at the Whitehead swapmeet a couple weeks back

odd. my car didn't have them when I got it, and my new Tokiko's didn't come with any. In all the pics I've seen of people redoing their suspensions I don't see anyone using them. Ah well I have them, might as well use em (even though they were $26 each). Thanks.

when I took my front end apart, there were no strut boot. From what I've seen on here, noone is really using these either. I purchased 4 new strut boots from Parts Source, but I'm wondering if i should even bother using them now. I know it's just to keep things clean and protect the strut, but am I going overkill here?

Media blasting suspension pieces
Empire replied to AgentZ's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
i just did the whole front end. take it all apart, get the bushings out, blast, clean up all threads with the wire wheel and use anti-sieze (after paint), sand/polish the surface where the busings go, tape it all off, prime, paint. -
I spoke to him because I was looking at buying that same car, but i already had mine and didn't want the 1jz or anything like that. I did want those Epsilon rims though, but it never amounted to anything. Turns out after speaking to him, we know some of the same people. That car was supposed to come to our shop and he was gonna build it there. Never happened. My shopmates know him. He seemed like a nice enough guy on the phone, but I wouldn't hold your breathe waiting for more stuff. I'm definitly interested in a paintjob. my car is mostly fiberglass panels now, and in primer (got it this way). Few bodywork things to be done, but mostly ready for paint. I cant spray in the shop and I was gonna do the roller method, but I don't want to wetsand for a month. As well, if i'm going through all the trouble, i want something that wont fade, and Tremclad will do that, despite what everyone on the forum said. let me know what you'd charge. I want a good quality semigloss black with a matter clear

I went to a swap meet this past weekend. They were signing up members. Not against clubs, just didn't really see the point of paying out $50 for a sticker. I can chat to all those guys online anyways.

looks great. Maybe you can do mine? I'm in Richmond Hill, and my 240 is in Sauga at the shop. You've got mick's old car right? Looks much better. The rims are orgasmic. Have building. I'm hoping to have mine done sometime this summer.

strut cartridge help!
Empire replied to tightywhitey185's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I just did mine today (fronts). Used channel locks. Didn't work at first so I sprayed it with liquid wrench (the yellow can one) and let it sit for an hour while played with the sandblaster. When I tried again, same deal. Sprayed, let it sit for another half hour or so. Then i went at it again with the channel locks. I took a piece of thick pipe to used for leverage on the handle of the channel locks. Worked like a charm. Once I broke the seal came off by hand. Guess i got lucky. Still have to remove the rears and get to those. hope this helps -
leave the back open. mesh will look kinda ricey. also, I wouldn't use that mesh in the front, looks too much like chickenwire. Check out a local metal supplier and see what they have. You might find scraps or have to order 4x8 sheet, but you will find some really cool options.

help with maxima rear brake brackets!
Empire replied to Megatherion's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Megatherion, How did you do the fuel door/cover on your car? What car is that for? Who makes the product? I was looking before but nothing looked like it would cover it so well. my fuel door just doenst line up at all (someone did the bodywork before I got it) and want to do this. Any help would be appreciated. -
icapture: what the hell is your problem? I asked a question regarding an exhaust set-up. People like you with no ounce of respect for fellow enthusiast are the ones that annoy me. I'm not some 16 year old kid with a Honda Civic looking to race people at the lights. I drive a 2007 Alitma 4 banger to work everyday, work at a real job where I actually use my brain, then go home. If I want my weekend toy to be loud, that's my option. I don't do things to get attention. I like loud cars and bikes because that's what I like. A Harley should be loud, it's part of the experience. If I had wanted a quiet bike I'd go get a Tomos scooter. Stop judging people you don't even know because your an internet forum "toughguy". If you've got nothing informative to add, take off.

I like that dual megaphone set-up. Do those tips add to the sound? Who makes them? Also, how are you supposed to run duals for the center exit? Tank is clearly in the way from what I can see under my car. Not too worried about the cops. I've got a foxbody stang with steamrollers and skinnies, headers, no cats, flowmasters, and a 5 inch cowl hood. Haven't had a problem with that one and i've had it 2 years.
