California/LA people - Do you know Erik Bernstein/this car?
rnye replied to rnye's topic in Non Tech Board
Yea it's got a Quaife in it. BW T5. No idea on the headers, but I'd like to run the full Kameari setup - 6-1, and race exhaust. Do you think they'll clear the comp pan? -
California/LA people - Do you know Erik Bernstein/this car?

Thanks for the reply. Here are a couple pics. -
Good evening HybridZ. Last year I bought a stroker race car from Erik Bernstein in Los Angeles, CA. I flew out from TX and made the deal, and got to know him and his wife Jenny. Unfortunately Erik passed away this summer when in a motorcycle accident when a car came into his lane head on. I stayed in touch with him, but never got a full rundown of mods or who built the motor. I'm sure we discussed it, but I was in the process of moving at the time and it was on the back burner. I have begun to tear down for a refresh (chassis only, engine has 26 hours on it) and I'm hoping someone can at least point me in the right direction as to who built the engine. Heres what I know: The obvious stuff, CCWs, AZC? suspension, Wilwodds, etc. Based on our past conversations and digging through here, it's a 3.1L stroker, tripple weber 48 carbs running electramotive. Basically I'm looking to see if anyone is familiar with the engine builder so I can get specs. Thanks in advance!

how do you feel your engine swap changes the character of your Z?
rnye replied to thedarkie's topic in Non Tech Board
Absolutely. The engine defines the car.. I'm an L6/RB/2JZ guy. I like the NA stroked cars (like mine with triple weber 48s), the whoosh and blowoff valve noises (my old L28ET) and the smooth, balanced, surge of power that comes with the newer inline 6s under boost. I do not like V8s. Any of them in this car. My M5 has a wonderful V8 and it's a great fit for the car. I personally would never do the swap on an S30. -
What is the most recommended suspension set up?
rnye replied to Kenji's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
I was in the same boat and pulled the trigger on TTT. This is now my spare bedroom... Full suspension, front and rear brakes with ebrake, kaaz 2 way. Go big or go home. -

Is Sunbelt Performance Engines no longer in Business?
rnye replied to Chris_Hamilton's topic in Non Tech Board
Disregard. Posted earlier https://datsunspirit.com/ -
Thanks. I don't know if the pump has been replaced - very extensive PPI was done and it seems problem free but it's a Ferrari so who knows. I will be replacing the relay regularly.. The headers can easily be done at home - but not MY home - I live in a condo. The shop that does the work on my M5 is doing them this week. Rick

That green Z is GORGEOUS. Wow. Rebello? Drivetrain specs?
-
LOL. The car is ridiculously roomy on the inside and has a very wide and open cabin. I have subs behind the seats and am 6' tall... absolutely zero issues. It feels bigger (up front) than my E39 M5. And yes, a lot of people do buy these cars (among every other high end sports car) as status symbols - I am not one of them. I bought it because it's a mid engine, 5v cyl, 8500rpm, flat crank V8 that makes beautiful sounds. It has one of the prettiest aluminum bodies even penned and if produced by one of the winningest car manufacturers ever. I'm a car guy and I'm lucky to call this MY car.
-
Haven't joined FCA yet, but probably will. FerrariChat is an awesome forum and resource. I love this car and that flat crank V8... 8500RPM.. the sounds are incredible.

The 360 responds well to N/A bolt ons. I mean it's not an SBC or what have you, but with headers and test pipes you can expect a 20-25hp gain. This is an early car and there were 8 different TCUs or so over the years. The TCU I have coming is plug and play with the CS software. It's makes for quicker clutch engagement, offers launch control and much more aggressive upshifts and downshifts. It should improve the drivability greatly. You have to remember this isn't a dual clutch gearbox - its a single clutch, hydraulically actuated manual and it honestly feels like someone is learning to drive with how sluggish it is when cold/not being pushed. I would relate the driving experience to a hyped up S2000. It's direct, light, toassable and you have to wind it out to build speed. Effortless to drive, even quickly and has quite a bit of understeer when pushed. I really like it and felt comfortable in it quickly. Also, despite what the internet may have you believe, it's actually pretty DIY friendly assuming you aren't messing with the computers (two ECUs, one TCU, etc) - as it required an SD2/SD3 Ferrari/Maserati computer. It's well laid out and there are a ton of supplier out there.

First Ferrari! '99 360, F1 tranny. Silver/red interior. Delivered a few days ago - bought from a friend out in CA. Already have mods waiting to go on - the M5 is in the shop but when it comes out the 360 goes in for: - Fabspeed headers - Kevlar heat blankets - Test Pipes (car has Tubi muffler already) - Challenge Stradale TCU (computer for the F1 transmission) - Nitto NT01s - Laser jammers and V1 hardwired Also doing new MAFs, oil change and some other minor stuff. It's fun and certainly generates a lot of attention, even in a subdued color. I hate the transmission as it's sluggish and slips the clutch way too much on rollout, but the TCU upgrade should fix it. And please excuse the Z's rough exterior - still deciding on what direction to take it (flares, g nose, blah blah). RIck

Anyone have info on ordering from Marugen Shoukai?

Thanks Gareth! And osirus9 - they look great! -
Oh man.. That looks awful! Good luck!
-
Great post! Thanks for the reply. So the nose and flares had to be offered from the factory to be used in particular race classes but wheels/tires/larger flares didn't matter? Also, do you know of any OEM G noses or headlight covers for sale at the moment?
-
Why did they even bother with the flares to begin with? Those wheels are so ridiculously narrow..? Also, HS30-H - I have been trying to PM you about possibly sourcing a G nose but it appears your inbox is full?

S14kouki10 - they did. They want $900 shipping for the 5 piece G Nose. I was interested in doing the whole shebang - FRP doors/fenders/G nose/WORKs flares and lip and OEM headlight covers... Marugens prices are actually pretty reasonable.. but the shipping on top of it all is what kills the deal. Does anyone have any alternatives? I can't even get a hold of Marugen (their listed email doesn't seem to be working) and I frankly I don't know if they speak English or are able to process credit cards/ship to the US? This G Nose thing is getting quite old. I have been passively searching for years and it never seems to work out. The part hoarders out there aren't willing to let anything go and as good as the US stuff looks - it's always a 1 or 2 piece kit - which throws off the authentic look IMO. I'm almost ready to throw in the towel and just keep the standard front end with the airdam and send it off to paint. Unfortunately our F360 is due for a major ($5K) and the M5 is going into the shop Monday for some needed stuff. Bad timing puts the Datto on the back burner for now unless there is a more cost effective solution to getting parts here (and buying them to begin with!) -

Sent them an email. Does anyone have any OEM covers for sale? -
Full cage and harnesses. Run it on the street and use padding on the door bars/halo. Probably worthless, but whatever. NASA/SCCA legal, Bride seats, no carpets/etc. When the car goes into paint I am going to see about having the seats lowered to possibly clear the bars... We'll see.

http://home.att.ne.jp/sky/FairladyZ/ZG/Nosemain_new.htm Ok so I'm tired of looking for OEM Gnose and I would like to order their "special" Gnose kit from Marugen Shoukai. Lip and flares possibly as well. Anyone have any experience ordering through them? Any help is greatly appreciated!
