  1. Got it. I wasn't aware of that as I don't own a 300ZX, but that's good info to have.
  2. I wasn't aware the 300ZX used a clutch type LSD. I only remember there being the open diff and the VLSD from the Shiro and turbo models. In any case if the clutches are going bad the diff fluid will be dark grey or black from the wear.
  3. If it's a 300ZX diff it should have a Viscous LSD which uses motion transfer through liquid. Given the slow speed at which you can spin the tire by hand it wouldn't have enough momentum to turn the other side. No worries. SEE HERE FOR MORE INFO ON VISCOUS LSD
  4. There is a solution to everything, it's all in how much modding you want to do.
  5. The box dimensions are the same, but the bell housings are different. The 240SX has a larger countershaft bearing so when adapting the 280ZX bell housing it has to be enlarged to fit. Check HERE for more info on the 240SX swap.
  6. This has been discussed and I believe the consensus was the restriction from the smaller turbo would slow the larger turbo and limit the upper end power. Also note the forced air from the larger turbo is routed through the smaller one which would cause a bottle neck effect and restrict air flow there as well.
  7. Don't plug it directly into an outlet. Wire it into the breaker box appropriately. 220V into an outlet it just a bad idea. The system was designed to feed off the breaker box, let it do so.
  8. I wish I had a T5. The standard N/A 5 speeds keep going out on me. The one I have now is a conglomeration of three trannies that had problems. I took the best parts of all three and it was great for about a month. I think the countershaft bearing is going out again. I'm going to either need another tranny or a rebuild kit this time. Building a tranny with 25+ year old parts from other trannies just wasn't a good idea.
  9. 10k watts. It was the smaller of the generators we had. The rest of the battalion used a 30k and it kept going down. Being the maintenance company we had to stay up and that 10k never failed.
  10. A fridge does not pull 8k at any point. In the Army we ran half our camp off a single 10k and barely pulled 50% load. We still had wet stack issues on it with all the A/Cs on and every light microwave refridgerator (we went to the field in style). It'll be fine. The only thing I worry about is which breakers he wires it to, how thick a cord he uses and what he considers essentials. Fridge is ok, but water heater is not. Microwave is fine, but central air and stove are not. Pick and choose wisely.
  11. Well, with a 8k/10k generator, if it has a main output at 220V you could (while the power is out of course) flip all the breakers off and wire each phase to an opposing breaker in the box. If you know how a breaker box works and how the bus bar is laid out to split the 220 into 110 per breaker you'll know what I'm talking about with opposing breakers. This way you'll have 220 to the 220 breakers and 110 to the 110 breakers and you can leave the main off so you're not feeding juice out of your house and feeding the rest of the neighborhood which would of course burn up the generator. 8k/10k should be plenty of power for one house.
  12. I guess that's possible but the ad said nothing about that.
  13. The tranny is definetely stronger. You should pull that and send it to me... Really, outside of the drive train not much else will bolt up to the 77. But seeing as you have a 81 I would pull the glass, dash, heater assembly and whatever else is worth while just for extras for the 81. I'm stripping down an 83 for my 81. The 83 is in horrible shape, but a lot of the parts are good so to save some money I'm keeping everything I can off it.
  14. I gathered that, but I'm curious about the second barb, I've never seen anything like that.
  15. Thanks, that's the kind of info I'm looking for. I don't have a hoist so this may have to wait a while.
  16. Here's the ebay ad... http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/1976-83-NISSAN-MAXIMA-280ZX-FUEL-INJECTORS-SET-OF-6_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33554QQihZ006QQitemZ160038258399QQrdZ1QQsspagenameZWD1V
  17. Hahaha, goes to show I never payed attention to that cable. I just took a smoke break and checked my DD in the lot. That's the speedo cable. That's why your speedo doesn't work.
  18. Cool it's an 83ZX I have an 83 parts car at home I can look at as well.
  19. Looks like a ZX by the cruise control cable. I'm not overly familiar with the automatics, but it might be a kick down cable for an automatic. If it's not an auto it could have been at one time and they did the 5 speed swap and that was just left over.My fairlady is an auto, I can look tonight and compare with my DD if no one else comes up with anything.
  20. Saw these on eBay for cheap, but what is with the second hose barb on the side of the injector?
  21. I've done some searching and so far haven't received anything difinitive. I have a 1983ZX parts car with power rack and pinion. My 81ZX daily driver has power reciprocating ball steering. I'd like to swap it over, but I'm little concerned about time and what parts I'll have to swap. Is this an 8AM start finish right before dark job or a full out Friday evening through Sunday job? My current steering is loose and worn out and needs new bushings. I figure if I'm going to replace the bushings it might be easier to pull the rack from the parts car, do the replacements I can on there then do the rest when I swap it out. I've also read the rack and pinion is more responsive and tracks better on the road. Give me some recomendations, advice and anything else you feel like throwing at me. Who else has done this swap and was it worth it?
  22. Sounds like a decent deal. I doubt you'll find it much cheaper unless you go eBay.
