Guys/gals, hopefully you can help me out here The wife and I bought/collected a bunch of stuff that was destined for the troops in Iraq (stuff like sunscreen, snacks, personal hygiene stuff, etc)--originally we were going to take it with us to a collection point in conjunction with a Patriot Guard ride. Well, due to a family emergency, we didn't get a chance to go on the run, so we still have all this stuff ready to ship out. The original collection point has already sent their stuff out, and before I try to find another local collection, I'd like to know if anyone here has a son/daughter/spouse/loved one currently serving over there that wouldn't mind getting a package from someone out of the blue. Since you can no longer just send it to "any soldier", I need a specific address for it to go to (you don't even have to tell them it's coming-might be a nice surprise) I have enough for probably 2 packages to go out, so the first 2 addresses I get will get the boxes. If you don't want to post the name/address of family, please feel free to PM me, or email the info to: jim @ jimzdat . com (remove spaces, of course)

Hey gang, trying to help out the wife by getting the word out for her regarding a sponsorship. Most everyone has probably heard of the "Relay For Life" that the Breast Cancer Foundation puts on every year, but they also do a thing called "The 3 Day"--basically participants walk for 3 days, covering no less than 60 miles. The catch is, in order to participate you must raise at least $2200 in donations to go towards research. This is something my wife is wishing to take part in (she lost her mom to breast cancer a number of years ago, so it hits close to home and heart), and is asking friends and family for help in reaching the donation goal. We are also working on trying to get some local businesses to help out, but that's a little tougher. Here's the email that is being sent out: If any of you would like to help out, it would be greatly appreciated--you can submit your donation right on the website, so there's no Paypal crap or wondering where the money actually goes. If you would like to donate, but don't want to use CC online, please PM me for alternate means The main site for info: http://www.the3day.org Thanks all for your help Jim (mods-if this is inappropriate, feel free to delete)

Sorry for delay--trying to get my scanner at home to work right with Vista is being a pain in the you-know-what, so I had to bring it to work and use the hi-speed scanner we got The pictures and diagrams aren't the greatest, but they get the info across and gets the job done--Enjoy! http://www.jimzdat.com/EZ.pdf

Nope, but I just pick up a roll of black 14GA wire and run my own grounds; designate a few ground points on the car and route accordingly. IMO, as long as you use a good clean grounding point, the entire car can be a ground--but I usually try to keep putting new holes to a minimum One of their products I haven't tried yet is the all black wire harness--all wires are still labeled, but you don't have the technicolor spaghetti look. I think I still have the instruction sheet from the last kit I used; I'll see if I can find it and scan it for y'all so you can see what they have to offer
-
Haven't had a need for vendor support yet, since the thing is nicely labeled, and comes with pretty decent instructions (including how to wire up various types of switches) Usually have the harness within a week of ordering
-
Just FYI-- I have used multiple harnesses from here: http://www.ezwiring.com I'd say they are up to par with Painless for quality and ease of use, but damn near half the price--a little more than what you are seeing on ebay, but they sell a nice "mini20" harness that would be easy to stash

Here's a link that might help explain the relay a little better too: http://www.fordfuelinjection.com/index.php?p=42

In the upper right of his diagram, where it says "fuel pump" and all that?--the wire that comes off of terminal 87 would be the positive wire to the fuel pump. The ground for the fuel pump would simply be attached to the body, or run up to a central ground point if you choose to use one For standard relays-- Terminal 87 is "normally open"; the circuit closes when power is applied to the relay coil Terminal 87A is "normally closed"; the circuit opens when power is applied to the relay coil--this is used for ignition cut-outs and that sort of thing Be careful of buying relays at Autozone and the like that are in their foglight section--some of them have two 87 terminals, but they appear to be a 87 and 87A

http://www.fordcds.com They have ISO files and torrents for most Fords from the early 90's on up Just gotta download and burn to CD, then install the program--gets you the same software the dealership weenies use

Well, I can speak from experience on this one, as I currently have C5, 6 & 7 bolted together, and I just turned 36 this year. My problem was herniated discs, minor bone degeneration, and bone spurring. I had a first surgery a few years ago (a laminectomy)--basically they just went in thru the back of my neck and used a fancy dremel tool to remove the spurs they could get to. The neurosurgeon wanted to try that first instead of the fusion, because the fusion places extra stress on the vertebra above and below the fusion point. Had the second surgery a year ago-cervical discectomy- (almost to the day--it was on 12/5/05)-they went in thru the front of my neck, cut out a section of the vertebra, removed the herniated discs, stuck in a couple chunks of cadaver bone, then bolted it all together with a titanium plate. Best part? it actually worked--I was having shooting pains in my hand and arm, and was taking flexeril once in a while, and ibuprofen daily (between 3000-4000mg daily); and that was just to make it tolerable. Now, I still take the occasional ibuprofen, but it's nothing like it used to be, and I can just take 2 OTC pills and be good. Worst part? Not being able to eat for 3 days without extreme pain. Having to wear the hard collar for 6 weeks (do a google search for "Miami J" collars). The 8 weeks of PT after the collar came off wasn't much fun either, BUT IS VERY IMPORTANT!! If you don't keep up with the exercises, you will just do more damage--what I learned is that most people with spinal problems end up relying on the wrong muscles to take up the slack, but that actually causes your body to pull itself outta whack. Don't take any part of your spine for granted, and do what ya need to do to get it fixed NOW--otherwise you're gonna regret it. Part of my problem is genetics and my height (I'm 6'8"); other people run into this problem due to overexertion/accidents/whatever.

I live in Belpre, OH now--worked in Lawrenceburg for a while (at the power plant in the middle of town) so I at least know where it is Unfortunately, Belpre is close to nothing else in Ohio--I'm about an hour and a half from Columbus -

When I first saw the thread title, I thought "This goes waaaaaay beyond hairy palms" -- guess I just have a sick mind. Hope all goes well Mike--best wishes for a speedy recovery -
That's one crap load of luck used up right there--seen people try that before, but usually with a bad outcome. Oh, and that's not Enya or classical music--it's Evanescence; "My Immortal" my immortal my immortal i'm so tired of being here suppressed by all of my childish fears and if you have to leave i wish that you would just leave because your presence still lingers here and it won't leave me alone these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me you used to captivate me by your resonating light but now i'm bound by the life you left behind your face it haunts my once pleasant dreams your voice it chased away all the sanity in me these wounds won't seem to heal this pain is just too real there's just too much that time cannot erase when you cried i'd wipe away all of your tears when you'd scream i'd fight away all of your fears and i've held your hand through all of these years but you still have all of me i've tried so hard to tell myself that you're gone and though you're still with me i've been alone all along

Corvette rear end conversion
jimzdat replied to spotfitz's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
Well, it ain't stock---the "nose" of the third member is shorter--doesn't mount up to the front most crossmember and it has rear disc brakes, not drums. Someone has evidently done some work to it, but I don't think anyone is gonna want to ship that thing, so he's limited by the area -
Anyone got the JTR book & a scanner handy?
jimzdat replied to jimzdat's topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
nevermind--guess it aint gonna get done until I get back to work this weekend. assuming of course, that I remember to bring the book ...... -
I'm stuck at work, and forgot to grab my JTR book before I left the house. I've got this nice hunk of flat steel, a plasma cutter, a drill press, and I'm here until 7 AM monday; but it doesn't do me too much good when I can't make the dang plates! Anyone have theirs handy that could scan the templates for the setback plates and send em to jim@jimzdat.com ? Thanks, Jim

"it looks like it could fly" -
I've never used the "Snap" kits, but I have used a few kits from http://www.ezwiring.com on various cars, and have been pretty happy with them. Like Painless, they use generic GM fuseblocks, have all the connectors to hook to a GM column (not so important for a Z), all wires labeled every 6 inches, etc. They also have the option of ALL wires are black (still labeled though) for those guys who want a really clean look
-
Pretty sure it's the same distance, as the original drivetrain was no different (except driveshaft length) I'm in the process of doing a LT1/T56 on my 76 2+2, but it's not moving really fast right now

Anyone got tips/advice for relocating to another state? (CA to VA)
jimzdat replied to a topic in Non Tech Board
One thing to check on is if the rental places also have storage. When I moved from WA to TN, (used UHaul for that one) they gave us one month of free storage at our destination. I've done a few moves with various companies: CA to IL--Penske IL to CA--Penske CA to WI (moving a friend)--Ryder CA to WA--U-Haul WA to TN--U-Haul TN to OH--Budget Plus various local moves Had good and bad experiences with just about all of em--guess it just depends on luck of the draw. I used U-Haul many times because I needed 2 car haulers, and they are the only one that would rent me 2 of them (at the time anyway). The CA to WI trip involved a crappy truck (minor issues, but annoying all the same)--called corporate office after trip and got a 10% refund. Def look for turbo-diesel trucks, I drove through the Siskiyou mountains at 25 MPH in a damn gasser. I never had any trouble with people messing with my stuff, just put a good padlock on the truck. Best hint? Find a friend who has worked for a moving company--the way the truck is packed makes a world of difference; I watched a couple guys load a 4 bedroom house into a 24' truck--beds, couches, whole nine yards. They still had 3' left at the back of the truck--but you couldn't find any space anywhere else in that truck -
It's not a rivet, it is a "security" screw--there was originally a tapered peice on the end of it that allowed it to be screwed in, which reaks off above a certain torque; leaving a blank head like that. Easiest way I've found to remove them is use a dremel or similar device to cut a slot in it, then use a flat screwdriver to unscrew it. If you wanna use a hammer to releive some frustrations, use it along with a small cold chisel to slowly rotate the head counter-clockwise until it unscrews
