  1. You want to make a bracket out of alu to look good? You realise you can't even see the bracket? I suggest you make it out of something strong so you don't kill yourself. The thinnest my S13/Z31 rear bracket is is 8mm, mild steel. Dave
  2. Thumper, dapiper is on the money and made me think of the reason (as Justin very briefly mentioned), the pressure differential between the exhaust manifold and the wastegate dumppipe is important. At a high pressure differential you don't require as large a hole to reduce the pressure because more flows air flows out for a given open time. Or something like that. A good reason for running a screamer pipe to me, keep that w/g backpressure down. Dave
  3. Fair enough. You could just put the 280YZ flares on? Dave
  4. 153 246 in a split pulse turbine housing will mean increased exhaust manifold pressure (in that side of the manifold). Now while you might think that this would lead to improved spooling due to an increased pressure differential, remember that the only reason a turbine spins is because the pressure is applying a FORCE to the wheel. F = PA. Force = Pressure * Area. So while you have increased pressure, you now have decreased area. So the question would be whether or not the interactions between the pulses converging in the pipes to create two larger bumps, as opposed to six smaller bumps, create a useful increase in force. My gut says not really but I CBF thinking more about it right now. Dave
  5. Justin, Can you please re-read what you wrote to make sure thats what you meant? Just want to check before I respond. Dave
  6. That'd wanna be some serious L28ET if you NEED 12 rubber under it. Surely it would be cheaper to just go to a stickier tyre in some width that is more reasonable. Dave
  7. The question must be asked, why do you want 12" wheels? And do you really NEED them for anything useful? Or just posing? If posing, maybe up the size of the exhaust tip an inch or so would be easier? Dave
  8. Thumper, that is true, but you are ignoring the fact that when you run more boost, you produce more exhaust gases, so therefore have more to bypass. I am sure its more complicated than just big boost = small w/g, as with all things. Try the 38mm and see, I think it'll be fine. Dave
  9. One way to check if you are leaking coolant into the engine is just to pull all the plugs and crank it over. If its leaking it'll shoot water out. I've had perfect compression readings with a blown head gasket, very wierd. Also obviously check timing/basics. Dave
  10. Assuming: 1- You had 0mm suspension travel 2- The outside of the subtle Z flares is close enough to the original to fit Yes. Dave
  11. Maybe its just me (and I don't claim to fully understand the correlation between CR and compression results) but that sounds awfully high for an engine with around 7.8:1 static CR. Go along and compression check it yourself. Dave
  12. AFAIK your options are: 1: buy some bundy tube and a double flare tool and make them yourself. You might also need a tiny rivnut gun and appropriate screws to attach it where you want to. 2: do the whole lot in -3 AN fittings. Dave
  13. Just so we're clear it is an external air pressure line that lifts the car. I don't think the driver stops and presses a button. Dave
  14. I'm with Scottie. ``The terminal speeds often seem unusally high, because of the poor 60ft times.'' Hes just saying that for a given ET, the MPH is higher than it would be for a proper drag car. Dave
  15. That photo is fantastic. I love how the gradual depth increase in the background increases in focus. Makes the car look like its just leapt up and is about to boogey. Dave
  16. http://www.holset.co.uk/files/2_1_1_4-Holset%20HX40.php Lists HX40's flow rate (maximum I suppose) at 0.53kg/sec (70lb/min) which matches the GT4088's compressor map nicely: http://www.turbobygarrett.com/turbobygarrett/catelog/Turbochargers/GT40/GT4088_703457_2.htm Dave
  17. Australia got a lot more 2+2s than we did 2-seaters. Love the extractors 280zx racer. Do you by any chance know datsqik (Andrew) with the blue SR20 1600? Dave
  18. Are they 5/16"? If so (like 510, 240Z) you will be fine. Dave
  19. Ash Maclurkin? This is Dave (you gave me a 240z fuel filler cap a few months ago after my ad in viczcar.com). So Laughlin(Lurch) sold you his RB25 hey? Good for you. Best of luck with it and keep me in mind with those fibreglass dashes. Dave
  20. Translate this to your favourite middle eastern language, replace Abu Musab al-Zarqawi with `filthy americans' or `infidels' and I bet its close to what was said all over the middle east after 09/11/01. More anger/hate is not what is needed. 2126, Biggest baddest toys? The viet kong used to take down jet fighters with a row of machine guns. And again in Iraq you are fighting desperate people motivated by what they believe in. Best of luck with those toys. Dave
  21. I think he meant if you have 5mm shorter rods you can lengthen the stroke by 5mm to get the same deck height. Which is also wrong. If you shorten the rod by 5mm you can lengthen the stroke by 10mm. This is completely irrelevant to the question. Longest I've heard of was 85mm with a weld/offset grind on the LD crank. I would be interested to know what sort of block clearance issues this has also. Dave
  22. This is making my idea of on-road testing look very simple. But I think its great you are having a crack. Keep us informed of the results. Dave
  23. Can't wait to see what this thing puts down Tim. Keep it up. Dave
  24. Dennis, The RB20DET comes with a 71C box, which means identical to the SR box. BTW the `machine work' you are paying for (+ shipping) can be accomplished in about 20 minutes with a die grinder. Dave
  25. FWIW, though I have no experience with using nitrous oxide, I agree with 510six that the more redundancy and safety you can build into a system like this, the better your chances of having it hang together. Get a wet system. Dave
