  1. thats insane they put the landing strip so close to the water. i'm actually tihnking about becoming an aircraft mechanic
  2. as far as internals, does anybody know if the L28 rods and piston would work? maybe the original crank would accept them? this could be a serious consideration for a future build.
  3. theres a guy on 240sxforums.com with one
  4. good thing you told him before he got it, i just now saw this post. i have the step up from that welder and damn was it a waste of money. it sputters, burns through everything if it will even penetrate the metal. some days it'll work alright for a while then just take a crap on me.
  5. i got family in phoenix. you wouldnt happen to be going to UTI would you?
  6. well we tried bypassing the starter solenoid thinking thats what it may be and they all (including the brand new one) did the samething, they all began to spin. we've tried two batteries and the most current one we tried had 100% amperage. any more thoughts
  7. ok, i search but came up with nothing. is there a starter relay? i've also looked and looked through the haynes manual but i can't seem to find one. i've been trying to figure out why this starter won't come on when i turn the ignition. we've gone through 3 used starters, my 73 z's, a 77 z's, the original starter and a brand new starter. all the relay under the hood click when i turn the ignition, and one clicks under the dashboard. i've changed out the relay that was clicking under the dashboard with that of a '77 z but it still does the samething. can somebody please shine some light onto me or atleast point me in the right direction, it would be much appreciated, thank you.
  8. sorry guys, i wrote it in a rush. as of right now my buddy is the rightful owner but within the next week after we get it running i will be buying it for $300. i will be doing a turbo l28, all i'm hoping for is about 350-400 hp but i will keep it conservitively tuned until i get used to the power. i oculd put it in my garage for a short period of time but not enough time so that i can rebuild the whole entire car. options: 1 keep on building the 240 and not have a running car for about another year. Option 2: take all the performance parts form the 240, put them on the 280 and have that as my z. tell me if there is anymore confusion.
  9. Alright guys first off i thought i should post this and see what some other z guys would do. heres the situation, i have a 73 z with 1/8 inch thick steel subframe connectors, eibach pro-kit springs, tokico hp struts, powder coated subframe, performance bushings, and a 3.36 R200 already in the car. the motor is completely torn apart in my garage and there is absolutely nothing in the interior, so it's pretty much the definition of a shell right now. I've also been over at the guys house everyday after work helping him get a 78 z with 51xxx miles on it so i can swap that motor in at a later time. so heres the question: should i just get the 280 running and in proper working order and then just swap all the subframe and suspension over to it from the 240 or should i keep on with the 240? the only reason i question this is because i'm only 17 and my 73 is at my grandparents house as they have two 2 car garages, but my grandfather is getting old and i think he is getting tired of it being in his wood working way. sorry for the lengthy post and i appreciate any comments.
  10. at least you guys have auto tech, we don't even have a shop class it's all computers and what not
  11. modern motorsports makes a spacer/adapter for "honda wheels to Z". i don't know anything about spacers but they claim to correct lug spacing and place the wheel in the proper offset position
  12. my grandfather pulls for the broad education as well, but i'm so one track minded it's really not good. cars are all i can think about during school so i kinda have a problem making good grades.
  13. i am going to bore my motor but only .40 over to fit the arizona z car pistons. exactly what liter would that put my motor at anybody know? kind of a stupid question
  14. i'll look into some more, i mean idea's kinda fading since i did just find a 78 280z with 51K miles on it for $300. we'll see still got alot of time befor ethe motor goes in....
  15. i wanted a +40 offset wheel too and after to to a fellow co-worker whose like 45 years old and grew up around cars he told me that spacing wheels can be dangerous, when going around turns theres a chance that it could break or the whole setup could fall off. is this true? or is he just speaking from prior knowledge from his olden days?
  16. trying to work out all the kinks and what not before i actually commit. i'm just worried about early winter morning startups, pain in the butt. i might just be sticking with the l28et swap as i have just acquired a sale of two Z's for $600. not sure of their shape though, i'll be going to look at them here within the next few days.
  17. will these metals hold a good amount of boost? I told my friend about this intake manifold idea i have where you have a TB on both the front and back of the intake manifold so cylinders 5 and 6 wont run richer or hotter than the rest of the engine and now they want me to make this manifold come to life because they're all going nuts over it.
  18. hey guys, i wanted to know if there is any sort of metal you all prefer to use in order to fab up an intake manifold? also what filler would you prefer to use? i was taught to weld through a 6 week class where they more or less focused in on the technique and less of metal makeup. thanks
  19. oh, i just remember seeing the pictures of the motor in it before the actual install. i just assumed that it was at his own garage. correct me if i'm wrong.
  20. ...himself...did you seriously miss all the threads he made?
  21. oh snap, mercedes turbo diesels never even came to mind. tanks, i'll definately look into them.
  22. oh oops, i thought you meant south of the US period...sorry.
