  1. for the longest time I was using Advance auto since there was this Jeep guy there that thought my car was the coolest thing and always helped me out. Even gave him a ride once...lol. They even will loan out spring compressors if you ask nicely enough and give then a $40 deposit that you will get back if you return it within a month. That is pretty cool...
  2. arg...finding the weakness of everything...your car will be like a new car before long. I like your rear view mirrors...but the rest is ok...I guess...lol
  3. Hmm... Well you did break down and hammer your fenders... You just did it better than I did...lol That was an excellent writeup Austin.
  4. inded. With my parent's 02 odyssey we have had a good time working with it. Alternator died. Transmission was having problems out of warranty but since we had all service done at the dealership they said they would look at it for cheap. They said that two hydraulic motor mounts were busted. The tranny also had bad wear in it. They said we would need a new transmission. All worked out that our service guy (that used to be a salesman and was then working in service) appealed to Honda and got a BRAND NEW transmission for free. It all cost us like $150 for some sensor in the power steering that had gone bad. It was going to cost like $4000 with all labor and parts. Honda sure proved themselves to us.
  5. hmm... the never ending quest for more power and the application of it to the ground. clifton method: is that the one with the piece of angle iron that goes under the crossmember? I'll search. saw the clifton mount... pretty cool but I still like the angle iron/rubber idea better. It pads the impact between the brace and crossmember.
  6. well haven't done anything really on the motor... got bored and sprayed my ceiling. I also decided I'll clean the tranny. My aluminium polish works great for this: I may ust get a flap wheel and go crazy and mirror finish my whole tranny and make it easy to clean. Since this video was not in here I figured I would go ahead an put it in here. there it is. The a valve or rocker arm is making noise and a piston or wristpin or something is exploded.
  7. also look at shows like O.C.C. and see how they weld without welding helmets...then kids that haven't welded think it is fine to MIG weld with sunglasses on.
  8. How did I miss this thread!!!! You car loks soo different from 2 months ago!!! Your car is so close to perfect... Did you fix the rear diff mount to stop shearing in half or are you still making too much power? I am guesing you have enough meat in the rear to contain that power now... Just found the new wallpaper for my new laptop. To answer someone's question.. it is the regular xenon urethane air dam that is all flexible... but it is not flexible any more.
  9. Jmortenson: well I am very close if not past that amount with my car..an it is probably not as fast as ol yaller was.
  10. I am taking a wild guess and thinking that since a Z was ~3500 in 70 and the estimated modern value is ~17000 then it is probably cost in the range of $10~15k. That is not bad for a buick V8 racing against Maseratis. a paraphrased quote said something like "racing with cubic inches rather than cubic dollars"
  11. they weren't very areodynamically inclined back in the 50s-60s when they were racing these beasts... areodynamics did not come into play much until the late 60s or 70s. That is when Forumula Vee happened and cars got streamlined and very low to the ground. Formula1 cars went from 5-6 in clearance to an inch or less of ground clearance. The first version of old yaller was sorta rough. The 9th version was a little more streamlined. All of these old yallers were made from junkyard body panels and spare parts. The underpinnings are much nicer though. Refering to what the above site says: In l959. Max and Hauser parted company. Max put the Buick engine into his new car, Ol' Yaller Mk.II. He claims to have spent only $1456.72 to build this beast another quote: Dan Gurney and Carroll Shelby also drove Ol' Yaller Mk.II. Gurney declared it "The best handling car I've ever driven". (This must have been before the Arciero-entered Lotus Mk.19 appeared.)
  12. I like then just because of the backyard engineering and lobuck retrofitting that some of the guys used on their race cars so that they could put the money where it counts. Here is a pic of "old yaller"
  13. Point taken. If the admins wish me to remove my Hybridz logo I will do it at their request no questions. I was just trying to show my loyalty.
  14. I am still not sure about a group build. I would think that if a build was going to happen it would go on for maybe a whole year. If a HybridZ car was to be built then you would want it to be top of the line stuff. If you try to get all of the parts quickly there wil be big gaps and stuff misplaced and even possibly stealing of group donated stuff. If the build was fully document showing where every part went, every penny and where it went, etc.. then nobody would be in the dark. With the Pinks build I was in the dark a lot with what was going on. A builder would mention that they could not get something mounted but another member had already donated the mount for that part and most likely felt offended. I have no money for my car, leaving for college soon, and have an engine that is messed upon an engine stand in my garage. I felt like donating toward the build would ad to my portfolio of stuff I have acomplished. I am now thinking that If I had not donated I would have enough materials to finish my aluminium console. I wanted to donate thinking that the build was going to add to an awesome car that was going to be worth something. The reality is that the car wil probably have the guages, dash, diff mount, motor/tranny, and a few other go fast goodies pulled and the rest of the car crushed. Sort of disappointing to have a fast car built but the body is not even worth donating to somebody that needs a shell. If there is another build every step should be documented so everyone can just look through a thread and see the progress of the car and see their donated money/part/service be put to good use. end of my thoughts. almost. The sponsorship is a good idea but since I already have a Hybridz logo (I made it) on my car since I have had more help from this site than any other I feel proud to display the HybridZ name. What about people that already have a hybridZ logo on their car and are proud to show it but then others get paid to have a hybridZ logo on their car? HybridZ can't send money to all people that have it's logo on their car and it shouldn't. Just another almost random thought.. This might make hybridz members that have no had their car sponsored want to remove their Hybridz logos since they are not gaining aything from it but others are
  15. I put about 12k on my 260 from March 04 when I got it running to October 05 but then I started uprading and since then I have put about 750 miles on it with 500 of those going to a car show after doing some last minute assembly. This next year it wil probably get less than a mile just from moving it around in the driveway. Time to get a good motor built. I was driving it 200-300 miles a week except when it broke down.
  16. I just have a fascination with these cars. Race cars that are more than hybrids...they are works of art. www.tamsoldracecarsite.net here is a site with a bunch of them. I would love to build a custom bodied race car with a Z's motor and tranny. What is cool is that several of the specials on this site were competing with high end race cars. One of my favorite TV car shows is "Victory by design" where you see very old maseratis, porsches, ferraris, lotuses, etc..being driven hard around a private road course at some huge mansion. one of my favorites is ol' yellar (sp?) and the maserati birdcage.
  17. so did you get the full version that is expensive or the cheaper Student edition? I am about to the the student edition with cosmos. I had the 3 month version and it seems like a great program even for a cad noob like me.
  18. dakota digital has an electronic sender that attaches to your tranny and makes the pulses. You may have to do that. I have been looking at their universal designer series panel and it seems that is the way I'l have to go.
  19. oh duh... looked at the exhaust and it looked like an updaft carb I saw on an I8 on the TV show " victory by design". Then saw the intake...
  20. well advance auto has proven itself worthless to me... all following parts on my Z were wrong: all 6 U-joints, wrong rear drum shoes (9" shoes. They said that I probably had the smaller racing drum brakes) they actually gave me the correct front pads, and bunches of wrong advice... I never would have thought you would get SMALLER drums to go racing...go figure. I broke down and got some from MSA.
  21. update on the hudson: It has an inline 8 with a 3 speed manual tranny. Grille and bumper are inside the car. Car will run off of a gas can on the fender. They are asking $4800 OBO for it. I can't see paying more than $3500 for it. At least the motor runs though.
  22. it is about 90 or so mles away...go around the perimeter and then due north and it is up there... my secret...Just PM me and I will let you know where it really is..
  23. Muspuppis: behind a fence that I just stuck my camera over. It appears to not have any holes in the body like my Z did... plus it is probably built like a tank. kennysgreen280zt: I would not think there would be any stuff for those cars but that is cool that there is stuff out there for them. I think that it is an Inline 6 but I am not sure. It is a 4-door with two bench seats. It looks like it needs that drivers window but that should not be too much. I like the look of whitewall tires on that car too. this place has about 200 cars and they rebuild a bunch of them to perfect condition. They have a showroom full of older cars but they weren't open when I stopped by. The plan would be to to have an automatic transmission, 200-250 horsepower. It could be a hybrid with a 350 chevy or that 2.3T ford...Or maybe even keep the engine in it if it could be rebuilt and then mated to an automatic tranny. The idea of putting the body on like a caprice or other chassis has been considered. This car would be planned out in advance opposed to the never-ending totology of my car.
