  1. that would be "AK-Z" that did the Z rendering.
  2. good looking progress. Another name for the "rosette" weld is a plug weld... you probably knew that thought. Indeed it makes a good way of joining metals if the base metal is thicker than the cover metal.
  3. looks pretty good. better pics would be nice.
  4. yeah... that one was pretty cool. A little bland for a z though.
  5. I do a good bit of mountain biking...I love flying downhill at 20 mph on a trail that is 8 inches wide...technical stuff is fun too...last time out I had my front tire pressure a too high and my bike was understeering a lot...not fun. Disc brakes help too...you can bend your rim up and still brake...calipers are a brake of the past...I bent the wheel in my last bike with calipers and the brake locked the wheel up. I went flying...
  6. I am pretty sure it is an oiler. it has that larger hole on one end and then on the opposite side it has two very small holes. one about 3/8" from the large hole and one 2 inches or so down.
  7. nope...that little part was not the cause of the noise...the noise was louder than that part could make. Plus I don't want to not oil something that is supposed to be oiled. I may drive the 30 or so miles to the local Z car junyard/service garage and see if they know what that part is. It looks like this thing in the haynes manual called the "crankshaft oil seal fitting" on page 28 at the bottom right. That is as close as I can get.
  8. well if I had a properly working OE box then I woud probably gain nothing...but with the old box dropping lots of spark...less power... I may pick up an engine stand today. I will then just have to rent a lift or see if someone can lend me one.
  9. most of us want the lightest possible Z...2+2 just adds like 200 pounds to a first gen...don't know how much it adds to a later model though.
  10. I just ordered the book about how to rebuild and modify your Nissan/Datsun engine at borders yesterday. I have looked through it before but I did not buy...what is funny is my mom wants to help me get my car fixed...she convinced my dad to pull the motor...he doesn't want to and thinks it is too big of a job...well I have removed, at one time or another, almost every bolt from my car in the last two and a half years. This "extra" part is driving me crazy. I guess I'll figure it out when I have the engine on a stand.
  11. any Z looks great with black wheels...
  12. that's whats cool...I have an 11 pound flywheel and clutch with ~750 miles on it.
  13. Thanks! I think I may pull the radiator first so that I don't crush it with the motor/trans combo. I may just pop out a U-joint and tape the yoke in.
  14. speed channel is the only channel with cars on it 24/7...except for the 3 am RV infomercials...
  15. J/k...imagine what would happen if your strut tower spot welds all broke at once in a D.O.H. manuver. D.O.H. = Dukes Of Hazzard...
  16. no way... it is going back where it is supposed to...next year... My car is always so close to being street legal again and then something blows up...It has been doing this for nearly a year now. It just gets worse each time. once I redo the engine then nothing else can go bad can it? I mean a 300hp NA Z isn't too much for a stock driveline is it?... one day...lol
  17. yeah...he took it out and found out that old cars rust...the strut towers snapped off...
  18. eh...I guess that makes my engine unique...extra parts..
  19. useless modifications...all Z's should be restored to original condition with all original parts
  20. Thanks! that is what I was thinking...I have pulled the transmission twice and that is what I was thinking,
  21. I am pulling my L6 motor this weekend since something is wrong in my motor and some oiler was sitting in my oil pan. I guess the first thing I will do is take lots of pictures of how everything is hooked up. I will then drain the radiator fluid. Disconnect all electrical connections. What I don't know is if I should leave the transmission attached to the engine and drain it's fluid as well or seperate the engine from the tranny and pull the engine straight foreward and then up. This will be my first engine pull but it seems pretty simple. I don't need to remove the transmision but I will if I have to. Thanks for your help. OTM
  22. ahahaha...lol I wonder who installed those rotors...
  23. supposedly the "most intense [on pinks] show ever"... It should be good and I will record it.
