Fairlady RHD 280Z for $3500. Not a bad deal. car needs restoration... http://atlanta.craigslist.org/car/350007599.html

John, You're the best...Thanks for making it a rule!
-
So much for "let's save the enviroment by driving a hybrid" lol... I'll drive my version of a "Hybrid"...
-
You could probably do it with a gallon and have a little left over ($28) I think the guy with a charger used just over a gallon but chargers are HUGE.
-
My battery tray area looks similar to that but the bracket is solid. I also have a chunk of the "firewall" missing.

Can we get this smiley? It's very appropriate:

I think the bigger smileys are too annoying... Just the little reguar sized ones to keep the forum down on clutter. -
Hope this helps y'all in choosing an HY35W... It took me forever to find! I also posted this in the holset FAQ (post is waiting for approval) that I started forever ago but didn't have any flow charts...
-
Finally found an HY35 flow chart. Not perfect but it is better than nothing.

Here is one good dimension: The distance from the top of the steering column (in front of where it bolts to the bracket by 1.5") to the top level of the dash is 5.5" That is with the face of the dash at a 90 degree angle to the steering column for better visibility than the pinks dash. I made a full width version for my Z.

So it has solid axles??? I'd like to see the underside of that car. I'll go look around on some of the UK websites. I don't remember the part about the chevy frame though.
-
hmm... If the car says Datsun on the body and then toyota on the valve cover people are going to think something is up. On a Maxima it is really hard to see a turbo sitting down there because of the strut towers and all of the EFI junk. Plus an L28ET with a regular old cruddy looking valve cover is going to look stock in a Maxima. I'd rather get one of the station wagon maximas to use as a sleeper. The one I pulled a head from was a station wagon with light rear quarter damage. The wagon Maximas have a solid axle so you could swap it out for a Dana 44 or something that has more strength than the wimpy little stocker. Plus you can get a limited slip dirt cheap since lots of Jeeps use a Dana 44 axle. That ends any rear end trouble. I think Maximas are the ultimate sleeper and in about 5 years people will be building tons of sleeper maximas with turbo motors. Or you could get a wagon with the LD28 and convert it over to gas and then turbo it... 240ztt: What head is on that motor? Is it the same as the Maxima N47 head?

Building a scale windtunnel
OlderThanMe replied to rudypoochris's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Strotter: That was my main idea for my miniture tunnel. To test the bigger aspects of aerodynamics. I had an intricate system that I had come up with to measure drag. I'd tie a tiny thread to the bottom of the Z somewhere and run it forward and down through the bottom of the tunnel via a pully. This string would be tied to a 20 gram weight and that is sitting on a digital scale. Then the amount of drag would lift on the weight from the car rolling back and tell how much drag you have. I mostly wanted to test front and rear end treatments on the car. Just an idea... One thing we could do is get a model of a car and compare the results with the full size vehicle. Then we can test the small model and predict what we would see in the real tunnel. Before HybridZ goes back to the wind tunnel we should do some beta testing to see what we can design before the next test since several members are more knowledgable in aero stuff. -

Yeah I like the flare too. It is soo much better than the 2000-2003 Frontier flares that stick straight out right above the wheel. It just needs to be downsized. And I did look at the jnc thread... The Frontier flare bolt covers are really cool. You could get them from a junkyard or from Nissan and use them on some regular ZG flares that would cover up the mounting bolts. -
hmm... A lot of people have been complaining about not being to find much L6 info. I think that all of the great information is buried in someone else's thread. Maybe we should make a L6 modification FAQ. bchappy: There is a book out there that you should buy. It will give you most of the basics. "How to Modify your Nissan & Datsun OHC engine" by Frank Honsowetz Nissan part# 99996-M8012 That will get you fairly knowledgable about L6 engines. For 450hp you would want forged pistons. That means going to custom piston companies like ross, JE, Arias or one of the others to have custom pistons made. The crank and rods of all Nissan L-series engines are forged so they can definitely hold plenty of power. Also be sure to get the turbo oil pump to replace the N/A pump. Hopefully that will get you started. Good luck!! Dan BTW I can get most any L series part in a junkyard including a stroker crankshaft and the proper rods for it.

Max/Veritech-Z, (Max wanted to put my Frontier (ZG-ish) flares on a Z) There is a very good reason why the frontier flares won't work on a car. The inner diameter on the frontier flare canfit up to about a 32" tire. Putting a 25" tire inside that would look rediculous I think. Now if someone made a downsized frontier flare I'd be all for it... I'm running 265/75r15 tires in the frontier with PLENTY of clearance and 225/60r15 in my Z and they are way big nearly touching the lower bottom of the rear flares. It is still a cool idea if someone made downsized Frontier flares... Here is my truck... -
Hmm... It is REALLY hard to do a dash from measurements. I pulled my dash out and spent about 6 hours figuring out how to mount my dash. Then I made a template out of cardboard and cut out the piece of aluminum. This was the half dash that was in the the HybridZ Pinks "race car". This is how I made the mounting tabs: Mounted by three tabs on top and then sandwiched above the steering column and it's mount.

L28ET Drill out the front oil pickup on the block and block off the rear pickup. Leave the body as-is. Have you seen the Nova(I think?) that was in Hot-Rod a while back? It looked completely stock and 35+ years old except for the screws holding the tires onto the rims. It was a twin turbo making BIG power and sounded fairly quiet under street driving. THAT is a sleeper.

JKNC90: That sounds cool! I'd like to see it! Vintage: Nice! I absolutely can't do freehand without at least a few refrence points. Looks good!!! I usually get about 10-15 refrence points from a photo and then the wheels. Most of those are for the roof and windshield and then for the front edges of the hood. Most of the car is freehand once I get the wheels, hood, and roof sketched. Then I can freehand. -
I figured after 200 posts in "MY" s30 drawing thread, I'd like to see what other sketches/drawings/ideas people have come up with for their Z car. This is open to pretty much anything you want to post. Z car or not. Off the wall ideas like Veritech-Z's NES Z31 are what I'd like to see. Even if it's not a Z car but it has a cool bodykit, cool vents, wheels, exhaust, or whatever...this is the place. I'll start off with this one I did yesterday and today. Sort of a tank/airplane/madmax/late night crazy idea. The motor would be an 1986-87 Buick LC2 3.8 liter turbo V6... Making lots of power of course. And VERY aerodynamic... Tube on drivers side of the hood is intake intercooled air with a recirculation bypass valve on top. There is also a boost gauge mounted there. Then near the front on the passenger side of the hood bulge is the turbo cover. Hole in front of the hood bulge is the air intake. Its not done yet...I'll get a good scan when I am done. Still have to do the wheels, more detail on the front end, and some more shading.

Building a scale windtunnel
OlderThanMe replied to rudypoochris's topic in Windtunnel Test Results and Analysis
Yes but the reynolds won't be right. I thought that I would be able to scale down windspeed but I don't think that will work. I'm just going to cram as much air as possible through the tube. -

Umm... it is a small home depot fan. It was like $5. I think the wind was about 4mph or 100 scale mph for the 1/25 model. I'm going to get a box fan to use. I think it would do much better. The reynolds won't be the same but air seperation should be similar. -
Hmm... The Dodge motors weigh like half of what a whole 240Z weighs...
