Heys guys, It's been a while since I've visited the site. I have been super busy with work, family matters, and moving back to start the new year of college. First off, I have decided against producing my swap kit for various reasons. ( I'de also like to appologize to everyone that e-mailed me and did not receive a responce, I kepted putting it off untill my computer finally erased them all, which is no excuse.) I am still willing to give out any information about the swap, so ask on, and I will do my best to answer your questions in a timely manner. As for the pictures, just check out my album, which COZY Z COLE has so nicely provided the link for. I have more pictures that I could e-mail if needed. Thanks for your interest, and have a good day. Here is a list of things I needed when I did my Chevy v8 swap into my Z31: custom fabbed engine mount brackets, only after tons of figuring, measuring, and mocking modified tranny crossmember and mount custom driveshaft with replaceable u-joints and the adapter yoke(mine was neapco) custom fabbed p/s pump mounts and pressure line for Nissan pump custom alternator mount and wiring full custom exhaust system if you go manual transmission you may need a hydraulic throwout bearing with custom plumbing. you may also need to customize your shifter and/or shifter handle to let the shifter come through the stock hole in the floor If you reach your goal of 300-400 hp your fuel system will need a total redo. The factory pump wasn't even sufficient for my 150hp 305. Either go mechanical or external electric and plumb it for 3/8 line, you will need to make a new sump too. All Nissan wiring must be adapted to your new engine. Didn't mean to discourage you, just giving you a heads up. Good luck.

Check out this Holset I got for free, its from a Ford box truck with a big Cummins diesel. My plan is to install it on my SBC Z31, might be the first turbo small block z31 ever. I'll keep you all posted on the build of the car.

Sweet pics! I like the 240/350Z hybrid, very interesting.

Nice Hybrid!

Mybe your air fuel mixture or timing is off. When an engine runs lean or far out of time it will run hot.

I take 70 all the way from Wichita to New Jersey, its a nice traveling road, but there isn't much on it to see. Ohh yeah and avoid Kansas by all means unless you like boring plains and super flat, straight roads. Thankfully I'll be out of this place thrusday afternoon on my way back to Jersey again, I just hope the Freak makes it with no problems.

Cool looking scoop, I don't know if it will help, but its cool looking. The ZL2 scoop on the 69 Camaro is a functional air inlet, not outlet. I have the ZL2 cowl induction hood on my 69 Camaro and I have witnessed it work as advertised. When I drive the car in the rain (not intentionally) the low pressure area at the bottom of the windsheild causes water to be sucked up the hood towards the windsheild, then when it reaches the end of the hood it gets sucked right under into the cowl hood. For the record I don't have the correct air cleaner for my car, so it is not sealed to the bottom of the hood like it is supposed to be. This proves that even without the seal, a rearward facing scoop does not vent engine heat. MIBPreacher, you can find stock spoilers for pretty cheep in junk yards, I found one and the guy only wanted $30, still didn't buy it though.

I was ready to tear it apart and check the cam timing, but I just don't think it runs bad enough for it to be a tooth off. So I decided to wait untill I get home since the motor is coming out anyway. I'm thinking now it may be that I either have the wrong balancer or the ring has spun. I will check into that and let you guys know.

Just tell a funny story about your buddy. My sister is getting married in August and i'm the best man, so I get a speach coming up too.

This summer I plan on: 300ZX- I hope to fix all of the rust and sheet metal damage over the summer and re-do the entire suspension with poly bushings. The engine is coming out for ease of work, and im gonna put a small cam in it and a four speed I just rebuilt. I would like to go 14's in the quarter and get about 20mpgs, we'll see how it goes. 69 Camaro- Gotta pull the engine when I get home from school to change head gaskets and fix the rear main seal leak in time to shoot up for the Carlisle GM Nationals. The goal for this summer is to run a 12.5 or better at 110 + and 7's in the eigth, ohh and not to break anything either.

I am letting the word out that I will start producing and selling small block chevy/Z31(84-89 300ZX) conversion mounts this summer if there is enough demand for the product. Since I have become a member of this great site, I have received many inquiries about my SBC/Z31 conversion and engine mounts therefore I have decided to start providing them for anyone who is interested. If you would like more information you can contact me on the HybridZ personal messaging system or email me at prevalf@bulldog.mcpherson.edu. Thanks.

Okay, I did some further tests today. I checked the spark on the number one and three cylinders and they both had a nice big bluish purple spark way past the three grand mark. I also checked both cylinders with a normal plug and one of the side gaped ones that made it run right, there was no aparent difference in spark quality. For some reason this engine also burns the number three and number two plugs black, like soot, all others are tan. The only thing I can think of is that every intake lobe but those two are worn down, but this is so unlikelly its almost not really posible. The engine has never backfired through the carburetor. I tried an old coil I had laying around and there was no difference. I returned the carb to stock with no improvement. I didn't mess with timing, but I have messed with that so much in the past to no avail, plus it is set at 11 initial and 36 total with one medium weight spring and one light weight spring. The fact that the car did, for a short time, run all the way up to redline with all four barrels open leads me to beleive that the problem is not the fuel system. The engine also has good spark and good timing so I think we can eliminate that as the problem. This only leaves some internal engine problem like worn cam, wrong cam timing, weak valvesprings, etc. With that being said, I think I'm gonna take it apart this weekend and find out for sure what the problem is. Anyone have any last minute suggestions before I disassemble this thing?

Plus I would probably get into trouble if my fiance found out I was talking to a side-gapper this late at night on the internet. Ohh man you're too much, haha. The guy that told me about it was from Texas, be carefull down there. The carb stoped pulling when I changed the timing slightly, then I put in a fresh set of plugs and it ran way smoother down low but then it hit "the wall" again. The only reason I don't agree that its fuel delivery is because it ran right when I had side gapped plugs in it, so I know its capable of running right. If the cam timing is advanced then the exhaust gasses wouldn't get fully pushed out of the chamber because of the valve closing while the piston is on its way up. This also means that the intake valve would open too soon, and it would be open while the piston is in a dwell period at TDC, therefor not sucking any mixture into the chamber for 10-20 degress of crankshaft revolution. With this scenario I know the engine would not run to its full potential, so it esentially makes itself smaller due to its ineficiency, therefor the carb seems huge to this engine.

jbk240z- I don't have much, if any more rubber line than what the vg30 had, but I am also not runnig double diggit fuel pressure numbers through fuel injection fuel line. Maybe some FI line would help. 280zwitha383- When I was driving the car with the electric pump it did the same exact thing, but it didn't run quite as well in the low RPM's. I had a good Mallory fuel pressure regulator on it set to 6 psi, and the engine showed no change if i moved the fuel pressure from 5 psi to 9 psi. I was about 90% certain that my problem was a fuel starvation issue due to the known fact that the stock 300ZX pump barely flows enough for the v6, so I put a mechanicle pump on the engine with the electric still in the tank, but not hooked up. After this I took it for a ride and it kept stalling out, so I made it back and hooked the electric pump back up and it ran okay untill I could run the tank out of gas so I could drop it and remove the elctric pump. The only thing high fuel pressure into a carb does is overpower the needle and seat, which you can't really harm., Its just a viton tip into a brass seat. The too much fuel idea sounds logical, but I've ran jets everywhere from 58's to 76's in the primaries and 63's to 83's in the secondaries with no change in full throttle power, it still hits "the wall". It may be that the carb is just way too big and when I open the secondaries, which are opening too soon because its a DP carb, too much air enters the engine and it causes a BIG lean condition. But if this was true wouldn't it catch back up and then finally go, I can hold this engine against "the wall" as long as I want, it never clears up. Here's another wierdo thing that happened with this engine. About a month ago I was running out of ideas, so I figured I would just mess around and try a side gapping spark plug trick a buddy showed me. http://performanceunlimited.com/documents/plugsidegapping.html So after I reinstall the plugs I go for a ride and am totally astonished to find that the car pulled all the way to 5,500 RPM with the pedal to the floor, and it felt pretty good. Why spark plugs had an effect on that I have no idea. This is another reason I am leaning towards cam timing, it doesn't seem to make sense for anything else.

Right now the car has the stock fuel tank, NO elctric pump in the tank, I took it out. I made a sump out of 3/8 tubing similar to the one in my Camaro. The gas tank looked brand new inside, besides some junk in the bottom which I cleaned out. I then put new rubber lines coming out of the tank to the stock metal fuel line which is 5/16. This runs up to the mechanicle pump on the engine, then to a G3 Fram fuel filter, then to my carb. The only thing I can see that might be hurting the pressure a little is the fact that I'm running a return line. The car already had the return so I figured it wouldn't hurt to run it, maybe I was wrong? The pump was made with the return nipple so its not like I'm asking it to perform an operation it was never ment to do. http://album.hybridz.org/showphoto.php?photo=6202&cat=615
