  1. I'll toss Hammerite into the mix. Another "on par" material with POR15, but again, less prep intensive.
  2. Well today was fun. Inspection : (+$10) and oh yeah, F*** wheel spacers. It (passenger's front) managed to wiggle loose, and shear TWO of the studs off. I'm lucky I didn't lose the wheel. All that was holding it on were my hopes and dreams. So I removed the spacer, which almost removed my wheel, and had to limp the car home like this. The car is now back home, awaiting to be dealt with, but I'm going to go shingle my micro house/shed project this afternoon; Not feeling cars today. The irony of passing inspection, and shearing two wheel studs off in the same day is pretty palpable. I certainly got a laugh out of it. Til next time. Days worked on project to date: 50 Total money spent on project to date: $1293 (+$10) Total miles put on vehicle to date: 2394
  3. If the sound deadening is giving you trouble, dry ice works well at breaking it up initially. Sweet project.
  4. Awesome David! Such amazing potential. And in your capable hands, this car will surely be amazing upon completion. Congrats!
  5. The lack of updates, brought to you by... Life: Getting in the way of projects since the advent of time. A small update, since I neglected to do so with my last post. Finished the brakes Finished the bushings Mounted the two tires (+$32) Some crap-tastic pictures. It'll look good with blacked out trim/handles. I'm working hard, to get dem monies, so I can spend it ALL on the 240z. Today, hopefully, we bond together the jet ski. Then the prototype is DONE, and we make production runs. Days worked on project to date: 49 Total money spent on project to date: $1283 (+$32) Total miles put on project to date: 2012
  6. Brakes. Shocks. Bushings. Underway... Driver's side requires the most labor, as I had to swap ball joints (new on the parts car) and a damage free LCA. The torch was most definitely required. Now onto the passenger's front! After that, the rears take no time at all. I'll update with more as it happens. And some pictures of what I've been up to (explains the lack of updates)... The rough draft to some stone work, and a picture of my brother sailing the Moth!
  7. Would you ever consider selling your old molds?
  8. Install Megasquirt on your n/a motor. The wiring doesn't change when you go turbo. This way you wont be troubleshooting two, or more, systems at once (engine, and EFI). I am. And I sometimes regret taking the long route. (Went carb--> stock l28e efi --> Now Turbo with MS) The stock n/a EFI step was a waste of time, but I learned a lot.
  9. Jack, you're doing an incredible job. I love this build.
  10. Update: Garage clean out is at a manageable stage. There's no way to accurately show the extent. And this is still only just the beginning. But, at least now it is manageable. Before the garage was full of, but not limited to, some of the following: -c.1925 single cylinder 60 gallon air compressor -2x MG-B engines -3x Transmissions (2x Z, 1x MG) -3x L series engine blocks -Late Father's horde of goodies he accumulated through his career as a boiler maker, handyman and car guy. (lots of copper, fittings, pipe, specialty tools, gauges, you name it)...So a lifetime of his stuff, that for the most part, I had no use for. This accounts for roughly 75% of what was removed. So here are a few shots of the car, from various angles, to attempt to show the garage progress and where we left off on this project. Plus some 1970 Boston Whaler center console rebuild action! 1" Solid mahogany sides. No fasteners. All carbon baby. No more rot! I'm rockscaping the waterfront today, in preparation for putting the Whaler and the lift in the water, so that's this afternoon, but progress on both vehicles will resume in a day or so. I love all the new space. Sometime today I'll try to grab some pictures for the areas I missed.
  11. What I was perpetually singing on the way home. Haha. Thanks for posting this!
  12. lots has been going on.... Presently, I've shifted my focus to cleaning out the garage, big time, and getting the 240 back on track. As for this car, I'm now up to around 1700 miles to date, and I'm loving it. And today the car decided to be a bit theatrical on my way into work. Pop goes the coolant line! So I spent the passed hour or so limping the car home, making multiple stops to let it cool down. Kissing the danger zone. Luckily, I'm not burning it internally, only just what's making it onto the engine block/manifolds. And I still haven't swapped the brakes/front suspension yet. That's the first thing on the list once the garage is finished being organized. And I ordered two Fuzion HR-I tires. 205-60r-15 ($130 shipped from Tire Rack) Those are expected, and should be mounted before the weeks end. It's been a pretty eventful 800 miles, since the last update. That's for sure. That should bring us all up to date. Days worked on project to date: 48 Total money spent on project to date: $1219 (+130) Miles put on project to date: 1710
  13. If you're talking about turboing your N/A motor. (not sure if that's what you mean) Then a quick list of things you'd need/should consider are. New Clutch (hopefully 240mm clutch/flywheel) Oil Pan (you'd need to either tap your existing pan for the turbo oil return, or a turbo rear sump oil pan) Rear sump oil pan pickup (only applicable if you have decided to use a 280zx turbo oil pan) High volume oil pump (turbo oil pump) Turbo oil pump/distributor driveshaft (only applicable if you intend on using the 280zxt distributor) All of this could be easily changed out now (except the distributor driveshaft, because I believe you said you'd use the stock l28e setup to run the car for break in. The turbo dizzy shaft doesn't fit the N/A dizzy) Surely, lots of stuff is omitted. It would be helpful as well to know your head/block combination. I've done all of this, and am still in the process of my turbo build. But that should get you started at least.
  14. I figure I have until I order the rest of the suspension before I decide. Right now, I'm thinking stock tops. Ask me tomorrow, and that answer will probably be different. Either way, I'm really excited.
  15. Got a package from Techno Toy Tuning today. Sectioned struts. Koni Yellows. Eibachs: 250 # spring rate. Hnnnngggggg!!!!!! Needless to say, I'm very happy. I cannot say enough good things about Gabe at T3 and the product they offer. And I really appreciate not having to do this myself, as I can now see there is no way I could have come close to this result, in my current capacity. Thanks so much Gabe! I'm going to stare a bit. Welp...there goes any hopes for progress this evening. And I'm currently in the final stretch of a complete garage overhaul, and clean out. I must have found $400 in scrap copper; Looks like more parts are on the way! And a clean work environment too, yay!
  16. This is definitely on my list of things to try next. Awesome! How durable is the finish? And I love the 280z emblem. That'll really make it look nice.
  17. Did a little more tinkering today. Swapped out the rear suspension. I'll do the brakes possibly tomorrow. Going to load up my bushings tonight in preparation as well. I installed the spacers with the current wheels. I'll be ordering 2 tires soon, so the O.Z wheels will go on the car next. Here are some pictures of the improved fitment and rear suspension swap. I'll tell you what, the car feels great. Definitely an improvement. I can put power down reliably. I like that. Can't wait for the brake swap, bushings, and the fronts. Going to continue to tinker tonight, while enjoying a few beers. Days spent on project to date: 47 Total money spent on project to date: $1089 Miles put on vehicle to date: 915
  18. Yeah, don't flip it immediately. You've seen the prices. Imagine where they will be in 2 years. Man....what a find....Jealousy consumes the mind.
  19. I'll give him a ring and have a talk. Thanks! I'm real excited to finally be doing the suspension. It's been what I've wanted to do to the car, pretty much since I bought it. But 'spension ain't cheap!
  20. So....This car has been neglected since I have returned from Rhode Island. Now that I'm feeling confident that the 280zx won't leave me stranded (Ironically, I blew a coolant line today :laugh:), I'm going to put most of my focus back on the 240. My tax returns came in, and instead of buying my Ford ignition stuff, which is relatively cheap and easily purchased, I instead bought the rear coil overs for the car! I was going to make them. But, I'm honestly tired of making EVERYTHING for the car, so....I'm letting Gabe at Techno Toy Tuning do his stuff. So while those are being built, it'll give me time to prepare everything else. Having the rear coil overs allows for more available work, as I can then source out my rear brake components and bolt everything together at once. It's time to DUMP money into the suspension of this car.
  21. Some progress. I ordered some lug nuts (+$35) for attaching the spacers. So, after work, I went for a drive to pick them up. I figured I'd make the car work for its parts now. And the GoPro skeleton case arrived today. So, on the way I took 3 test videos. Well, actually I took 4...But, on the fourth I burned through my mic cord, so that won't be posted. Haha.. Whoops. Luckily, it's long enough that I have already spliced it back together (however untested). Again, no real spirited driving in these videos. I'm still just testing things, and running errands. Hoon videos will surely follow in the foreseeable future. Days worked on project to date: 48 Total Money spent on project to date: $1089 (+$35) Miles driven: 697
  22. I know that if I won, I'd gladly pay shipping.
