This is getting too far off topic.
I never said the C4 was a 'good' car.
I never said it was well built.
I never said I wanted one.
I never said its 'better' than a Z32.
What I said was, accusing a C4 of being a highway cruiser and not an autocross car, is factually inaccurate.
The National records prove, beyond reasonable doubt, that STOCK CLASSED C4's and C5's are some of the most successful autocross cars in history. They also show the opposite for a Z32. This is not an arguable statement. It is not debatable. Its not negotiable. It is recorded fact.
Lets drop the C4 vs Z32 debate and return to the original posters intent.

Mike Hintz car was a two-year group effort beween Mike, Braap, myself, and a painter. Sadly, I can't give him his due credit as I don't know him or his name

Merry Christmas!

Desperately trying to dissuade myself from scratchbuilt... another contender, enforcing the 'nostalgic look' and encompassing proven performance, is the Victor "E"...

Pssst... don't tell anybody... I've been pretty torn on intake manifolds. Lots of choices. Lots of price envelopes. Lots of promises. Lots of compromises.
Braap's Mom and Dad dropped by for Christmas, with his Dad's latest purchase in tow... a Holley Stealth Ram. Not sure where they got the name "Stealth", as it is anything but. Anyhow, it has my interest...

There are some elements I'd like to see different, but overall, it appears to be functional and value packed. Hmmmm...

I'm working on it Ron...
No offense intended!
It seems as though any 12 year old with ambition and a PC can build a virtual F1 car. These day's, I very much appreciate the 'real thing'. Don't hesitate to ignore me
P.S. Justin... NICE!

Dan, I'm thinking this is a potentially great thread, but I'm also thinking that it should stick to your title... "Before & After". We have plenty of "Ideas & Solid Works"... it would be nice to see actual 'After'.

I hadn't seen this before and thought it was worth sharing. It appears that a couple people have converted LT1 intakes for early SBC's...

The grease-ball arrived this afternoon...
Almost unrecognizable, its an SBC. No really, it is.
Gutted from an '88 Suburban, its a Goodwrench 350 replacement. One piece rear main, but sadly, not a roller motor.
Braap found humor in snapping a picture of me 'removing' a stubborn flex-plate bolt...
Thanks Aaron for the smokin deal!

Looks like automatic kickdown.
It also looks like your Lokar throttle cable is waiting for an opportunity to fail. That kink where it passes through the firewall will eventually break.

I have not spent the time to research the accuracy of the following, but Gene Berg wrote it and his success speaks for itself (underlines are mine)...
"Aircraft fuel is often considered as a high octane fuel that may be used in a high performance car engine. When talking to the engineers at one of the major refineries I was rather shocked to find that they use a totally different octane rating system. Aircraft engines are rarely ran over 2500 RPM so the piston pressure is changed far less than that of the auto engine that has a wide RPM change. The higher the performance usually means even a higher RPM range. They also rate the octane according to the rich or lean mixture device on the dash of the airplane. The aircraft fuels octane ratings were considerably lower compared to the automotive fuel rating system and should never be used for automotive applications. In fact, one of the new big things for aircrafts is to use automotive unleaded gas."

One this i though of just now will the stock computer be able to uses the sensors on the tb?
Looking at the picture, all I see is a typical GM idle air motor (not directly usable) and a GM potentiometer style TPS (not directly usable). The opposite side of the TB looks like its just the throttle 'cam'.
-
In my experience, the bottleneck in that manifold is not the TB, rather the runners. They are quite small and restrictive. 200-215HP is about the upper limit (NA).

Ron needs to help clear this up then because my understanding was the last time I talked to him that it only required a small modification that J&S could do per Ron's instructions to do full sequential for 6 cyl apps using a Wolf EMS.
Ron?... yo RON!
Not sure where the miscommunication comes from As of today, J&S has 2,3, & 4 channel boxes. John makes an 8 channel Vampire but its use is not best suited to your needs. He is preparing to release an 8 channel universal in the very near future. I'll call him Mon. and verify his schedule.
Until we get the 8 channel box, wasted spark is best we can do (unless you run two 3 channel boxes). As a side note, when used in wasted spark, it still has the ability to trim timing on individual cylinders... its adaptive abilities are what makes his stuff 'top shelf'.
P.S. The modification that you're referring to was in reference to pulling hi or low. J&S is normally configured to be pulled high, but older Wolf versions could only pull low. Wolf can be configured to do either now, so the modification is optional.

Yup... file for lost title. The DMV will send notification to the owner on file and, if he doesn't contest, you'll be set.

I think its only fair to compare c4's and z32's of the same year range. Crossfire and tpi vettes stock were whooped on by everything in its class autox. I don't think until the lt1 did the vette really come into its own.
Only the first year of C4 had Crossfire ('84). '85 to '91 vettes were TPI and hugely successful (SS exists becuase of the TPI Vettes). Only a few people in LT1 Vettes have been successful in SS.
I'm not trying to start a debate between C4's and Z32's. In fact, this isn't really debatable. Hodo's claim, with respect to autocrossing, is factually incorrect (as well as LT1 superiority). The National records prove it. Just trying to 'keep it real', nothing more.
-
And as far as a Z32 for autocrossing.... LOL not built for it. It was built to gun down Corvettes. And that the Twin Turbo did very well in the early 90s. The 'vette was not a autocross car either. It was a sports car. a Highway runner.
Not sure how you reach that conclusion. C4's are one of the most successful autocross cars in history. The Super Stock class exist solely becuase of the C4's outright dominance. Have a gander at the National results for the last 20 years... they tell the tale.
In my opinion, a Z32 and a C4 are two very different cars. A Z32 does a pretty darn decent job of combining DD duty with the sport of driving. The C4 is a very aggressively tuned car... rewarding and punishing simultaneously. It is narrowly focused. Anyone that believes a C4 is a highway cruiser doesn't have any windshield-time in one. If the Z32's target was a C4, then somebody screwed up. If I gotta drive one every day, I'll take the Z32.

If you're happy with the engines your friend builds, there is little need to question.

*Edit*
Some of you will notice a change in vehicle. Long story short, I decided to use a '73 platform in lieu of my '74 1/2.
Around 2003, I found these two cars...
The '70 240 in the foreground bares a striking resemblance to swiss cheese... not worth the hassle. On the other hand, the '73 in the background, is fairly sound. They came as a package deal, so home they came.

Opitma battery issues/options?
in Ignition and Electrical
Posted
Tommy,
For what its worth, I do some business with the largest battery manufacture in the world (Johnson Controls). They recently acquired the Optima brand. Their warranty room is heavily biased with Optima's. I quizzed the floor manager about it and he said the issue is manufacturing inconsistency... some are quite good and others not so good. The expectation is to turn that around. I've personally owned several with good performance. Guess I've been lucky.
