not sexual/casual encounters. We'll do that in another thread. Here are a few of mine: I bought a junk turbo2 rotary motor to dismantle for parts and practice and to keep the tranny. I had a set of upper and lower manifolds for sale. They were oxidized, taking up space in my garage, and I figured I'd sell them on CL. Posted an ad asking $40 for the pair, mind you, normal price is about 80 bucks I get an email back: "Hi, I don't need these, but I can take them off your hands for free to help you clean out the garage" To which I replied: "Well, I'd love to sit and wait and arrange for you to pick these up, however, it's a lot faster for me to throw these in the trash." Which I did. Story #2 I was selling my 2nd YZF600R bike, and I put it up on craigslist. Price said "3,600 OBO" First of all, when you say that, people will always email and ask "what's the lowest you'll go?" to which I always reply with "whatever the price is. But if you want to show up with cash in hand, we can haggle" One guy emails me with "$3,600? For a used 600? My friend just bought a 2001 (the year was 2005) honda superhawk for $2900! And it looks brand new!" me: "well, does it have a salvage title?" guy: "uh, um... yeah... but it looks brand new, and works fantastic" me: "go ahead and buy one then. Just keep in mind the word "salvage title" when your frame cracks through a turn and causes you to fly somewhere you didn't intend to" Guy #2 emails me with "I have a compaq iPaq [pocket pc] and $1,000. will you be interested in making a trade?" me: "well, come up with 2,600 more, keep your ipaq, and we'll talk" Guy #3 emails me with "Will you take $1,500 for the bike?" me: "Sure, as downpayment until you get me the other 2,100" I sold the bike to a sensible rider for $3,300, threw in accessories, tank bag, chain and lock, and cover. Story #3. Not directly CL related, but I'd post it since I put the ad on CL anyway. I sold my Neon R/T, and had some parts left over, namely a stock 16mm rear sway bar. it was in perfect shape, since I replaced it with a 22mm unit, and this just sat for years without any use. Now I really had 0 use for it. So I sent an email to the local bay area neon email list saying if someone wants it for free, it's theirs. I get a reply back from one guy saying "hey, I could use it. You mind dropping it off in San Jose?" I replied with "if by 'San Jose' you mean my dumpster, it's already on your doorstep"

If people come by and lowball you in person, just tell them you're not interested. you advertised a firm price, and that's what you expect

lol, we used to have one for yahoo mail. it died a while back

this is what you have: This is what it should look like if you expect to get better results:

thanks, but I've owned 2 bikes before, and never ride without gear head to toe. in other news, it's very likely that it won't happen. long story

see, there's a difference. I don't go scouring youtube for videos of naked middle aged oiled up dudes.

I'm confused. Are you buying or selling your car?

friend of mine offered me his 2000 Triumph TT600 (red/silver, this is the 4 banger, not 3 cylinder) for a grand. It has a bad idle air control valve so it makes no power until 4000 rpm, and he dismantled it partially to fix that couple of year ago. Never got around to fixing it, so the bike just sat. Has new fork seals, hasn't been down, very loud exhaust can, and 30,000 miles. It'll need a major tune up, and probably a new fuel map flashed to the ecu. Looks something like this: I am thinking of jumping on this real quick

that's really nice deal for everything being thrown in with the car. a turn key racecar for under 7k, that's pretty damn good

When I was young, I was so full of fear I hid behind anger, held back the tears It was me against the world, I was sure that I'd win But the world fought back, punished me for my sins I felt so alone, so insecure, I blamed you instead and made sure I was heard And they tried to warn me of my evil ways But I couldn't hear what they had to say I was wrong, self destruction's got me again I was wrong, I realized now that I was wrong And I think about my loves, well I've had a few I'm sorry that I hurt them, did I hurt you too? I took what I wanted, put my heart on the shelf How can you love when you don't love yourself? It was me against the world, I was sure that I'd win But the world fought back, punished me for my sins And they tried to warn me of my evil ways But I couldn't hear what they had to say Well I grew up fast, I grew up hard something was wrong from the very start I was fighting everybody, I was fighting everything but the only one that I hurt was me I got "society's" blood running down my face, Somebody help me get outta this place How could someone's bad luck last so long? until I realized that I was wrong I was wrong, self destruction's got me again I was wrong, the only one that was wrong was me

push button: african swallow or european?

gareth: that stage passed in the US about 4-5 years ago. It used to be a huge fad here

Driving a honda is embarrassing? Do tell

miata bolt pattern is 4x100. you will need these to run the wheels: http://www.modern-motorsports.com/catalog/product_info.php?manufacturers_id=&products_id=11 don't know if they will rub, but they most likely will with stock springs

I paid with visa. I just want the equivalent what it will cost to rebuild the downpipe correctly. There are about $200 in materials worth used (bends, plugs, flanges), and about $300-400 in labor. I didn't pay for the materials with visa (it was ordered online long time ago through paypal, and the only way i can collect hardware money is through small claims)

UPDATE: talked to shop owner just now. he won't give a refund, says I'm unreasonable. Promised that if something on the exhaust fails, he will repair/rebuild it at no charge whenever that failure may occur. I asked him if he's willing to put that in writing and his reply was "no, I won't. I am a handshake kind of a guy, and if I give you my word, I will honor it. I was very irritated signing the initial contract that you had me sign, but I still took care of you." So, he won't refund me partially for materials (that I supplied), he won't rebuild it until it fails, and he gave me his word. I told him that courts do not honor verbal agreements. On the initial contract I had him sign after his first screw up, I wrote in "_______ will reconstruct the downpipe on __________ '240z 13b-turbo rotary conversion, using stainless steel piping and materials" That's about the gist of it.

bandaid to a problem. it'll still experience premature failure
-
That's kind of oldschool. Pictures and story + internet is far more devastating. I don't care about picketing and reputation, I just want my money back or have it done right. Having tried it twice, he failed.

Here's the problem: I spent about $170-200 in stainless parts that are not exactly reusable (tial flanges, vband flanges), and the cost for exhaust work was $750. I have receipts and original agreement I had him sign that he would redo the downpipe in stainless with me providing the materials at no charge. He also welded up an OBX turbo header with same wire, so that's $200 or so it had custom reinforcements tig-welded in as well... i mean, reusable, but modifications will have to be made to reattach the waste gate

oh, those parties that know which shop and owner that I'm talking about, please don't mention the name and keep it to yourselves thanks
-
Hm, talking to the guy isn't a good idea... I don't see him as what you'd consider...stable. More on that later

Keep in mind I'm only concerned with getting my money back. I obviously don't trust him to try and fix it for the 3rd time

cliff notes version: april 2007: datsun shop owner does some work on my car. i specify exhaust to be built out of stainless to handle rotary heat. provide with SS bends, clamps, mufflers. Also bad dog rails to be installed. I get the car back. My floorpans have holes melted in them. Wire speed and temp were so high I had 2-3" long stems shooting out of the floors.Exhaust is made out of mild steel. Owner says he is puzzled and wondered why I would ask him to make it out of mild when it's a rotary. I point out that I gave him SS bits, and specifically said stainless. Owner promises to fix issues, and we agree for him to redo just the downpipe in stainless. He works on the car end of august 2007, I get the car back sept 7th. I examine it, it looks ok, pipe is out of stainless, holes in floors [poorly] welded in. I am in process of moving and other things, don't get to start working on the car until recently. We drop the exhaust, and one of hte vband flanges isn't even welded. it's just tacked on; he never really finished it. I examine the downpipe, and it has rust around welds. 304 SS doesn't really rust. I stick a magnet to it, and magnet sticks to welds, but not the piping. He used steel wire instead of stainless. I examine some other things, and the turbo header welding he did (on stainless) is also done with regular steel wire - not stainless (this was mig welded with gas) I went to another shop where the owner was more than understanding, with the pieces in hand to get a second opinion. Exact words were "Wow, we'd never do something like that". The downpipe will basically fall apart after a few heat cycles. Do I: a. take small claims court? b. attempt to get money back from credit card, which will be long drawn out process c. attempt to talk to him and get money back? d. attempt to talk to him and have him fix his mistakes (3rd time, and I'm sure he hates me, despite the fact that I've never raised my voice and at every opportunity attempted to resolve things peacefully, in the upmost professional manner). The other shop owner quoted me about $500-600 for the downpipe work (it has to ALL be redone) including cost of materials. My turbo header most likely will need to be replaced. I need to get new vband rings for the tial wastegate, since they're custom produced, not readily available from any vendor. My stress levels are through the roof, I'm grinding my teeth, and any sort of further action will definitely not improve my wellbeing.

why did i post this? because it made me think of how well focused it is, and how that bird ruined (or perfected!?) that photographer's shot
