  1. I was looking for one because I would like to put my Z back to stock at some point. And since the P/O i think chucked it from a bent valve(I see a dent on the top of the piston so Im assuming that happend) I want the E31 to go with my E31 block.
  2. Phil I've been watching your videos now for a year and I think it would just make you love your Z even more then you do now. In fact you could get a 240z and put your l28et in that and have 2 loves!
  3. Thanks, hoping for someone local first before I have to pay for shipping. I will be heading to SoCal in June for a wedding, if I haven't found one by then that's local I'll email you.
  4. Anyone have one? What would you sell it for? Must be unmodified.
  5. Heres the pics N42 head As you can see their are no notches for the fuel injection and the ports are larger Heres the E88, don't know why the first two retainers are different but I can always get some new retainers and springs and a little better cam. Plus cleaning her up will do her good.
  6. I can take a few pics, of the head, gotta get it out of my trunk since I took it to another shop to show a friend today (dhunt) My L24 is a 31 block, I've decided not to put my n42 on it, I don't want to eye brow the block, it is the matching numbers to my 70z The head that should've been on it was a e31, but p/o got rid of it I guess for some reason. Anyways it has an e88. Car actually ran fine, on the rich side, but ran. I was going to upgrade a bit in my resto project but after all said and done I think I'm going to go back to the e88 unless I get my hands on a e31 head to make it all original again. Still have my l28 to do a stroker build later on and the n42 will work for that.
  7. So Ive decided to put my N42 head on my L24 e31 block, that motor was running just fine in my car before I started the resto build, I took my N42 head to a performance shop nearby in my town to have them check it out, check the pressure and check everything else, the head was definitely shaved. I knew the head was worked on a bit but I didnt know by how much. The owner of the shop measured the cc volume, it was 39cc's, now I think im going to have to use premium gas cause the compression will be pretty high, but I think it will make for a very fun ride. Don't know if ill need to add shims on the head though.
  8. Actually I had my wife stitch the patches on the jacket. I may be ordering more from you soon
  9. Lol bought the patches on here, im sure they're still some left. I may buy more, I really want a lot of track jackets lol.
  10. What do you guys think of my new Motorsports track jacket? I bought these patches on here and bought a Puma Motorsport track jacket. I have extra Patches so I can make a second or third jacket. What do you guys think?
  11. Took my N42 head over to Terry Tinney motor sports here in livermore. This shop mainly does Alfa romeo and Bmw Racing builds, Im having them check my N42 head that I got. They are pressure testing the head to make sure there's no cracks. Terry also checked my valves and they are going to need work since they were leaking air when he put some air pressure through each valve. Heres a video update that I made today while I waited for the paint stripper to do its job.
  12. Found a performance shop in my home town, I'll be heading over their tomorrow morning to get some info on some head work. I'll be bringing my N42 head and my P79 head. I'll be going with the head that will cost the least to work on. I only want some mild work done on it since I'll be putting it on my L24. If this shop does a good job, I'll be putting the money into the stroker motor later once the car is done. I;ll be posting some pics tomorrow on the status of my ride, did a trade with a local Hybrid Z member. I traded my older 5speed for a firewall and driver side frame to fix the crashed portion. I just have to make the cuts and pick up a welder to weld the parts on and that will be one huge headache taken care of.
  13. +1 I've seen a few and they ranged from 100% redone to needs a lot of work. 100 being low prob 400 on the high end? I saw one for 650 but I wouldn't pay that much for that head and I'm in search of one for my e31 block.
  14. Update: I found an amazing deal this weekend, I got a P79 head complete and a almost complete Maxima N47 head for a grand total of 35 bucks! Awesome older gentleman I met in emeryville since he lives in SF and Im very east bay in lIvermore. I did get a chance to clean the carbon deposits off the top of my pistons and boy was their a lot! Everything looks good except for the one small dent left by a valve. Im wondering if thats what happened to the E31 head thats supposed to go to this block, it was covered with the carbon, so I don't think it was from me since I only had driven the car for about 10 miles tops before taking it apart. On a side note, I started paint stripping the car, I have aircraft stripper, but I ad the use the other paint stripper I bought first to make sure it didn't go to waste.
  15. Well I had some free time tonight to play in the garage, so I ended up taking off the E88 head, after I took the head off I looked at the valves, I don't know what to look for anyways but I can see the exhaust valves have this rust color to them. I don't know if thats normal, and I don't know what else to look for, I need to go through my books to see. I had a newer fel pro metal head gasket. I don't know if this is due to the car running rich, or if this is standard carbon deposit from normal wear and tear. Im thinking of just doing some head work and leaving the pistons as they are, what do you guys think? I'll be picking up two extra heads this weekend, a P79 complete and a Maxima n47 for a grand total of 35 dollars! going to try and get some of the paint off this weekend on the body, this is going to be the long part!
  16. After looking at the cylinder head all this time I never realized the different color retainers, yeah I'll do that when I get to dismantling the rest of it. As for my cam I've been looking at web cams and I see they have a cam that can be used with stock to modified set up and the price is pretty good, I'll probably end up getting that when I do the rebuild.
  17. I went to look at my cam the other day and I realized their isn't any oil on my cam...it has the holes on the lobes for the oil but not an external oil bar. I have a theory as to why my car wouldn't go passed 40mph and this may be why? A cam not having the smooth oily surface cant move correctly? Anyone want to chime in on my theory?
  18. As the title says, happy new year to all the Z owners on this awesome forum!
  19. Didn't know exactly what I would do to make it work, sounds like I'll just stick with the dished pistons for now since they look in good condition. Thanks! AM I NEWB!?.... Well kinda lol, fixing up a car is new to me since I never had a car till now to fix up. But yea I have all these stock parts that I can use for now till I can understand more. My main concern was if I had to get the motor redone honed/bored, why wouldn't I put in better pistons, since its not that easy and convenient ya know? Im sure a lot of people can rebuild a motor on here during the weekend, but Ive never done it, so this would be my opportunity to maybe put those in without a hassle later and then add on things later that would put more performance on it. I guess thats what im looking for as far as an answer.
  20. I'll have to see what the cam number is, I don't know what L series it came from. I don't know if that matters when my rebuild happens.
  21. i'll take a new picture in a few minutes.
  22. This is the cam from my L24, I was going to use this in my N42 head/F54 block, Its internally oiled so this cam is def from another motor. Anyone think I need a new one? What's that yellowing on it?
