  1. Yeah, I decided On getting the lincoln 140hd pack from lowes or home depot. Does the job and I can get the gas for the welding, comes with the gas hook up too, 525 bucks. And I can upgrade later if I wanted.
  2. I have number 979 so I have a really early one. I hear they are the lightest of all the Z cars. Heres one I found thats number 87, but I would never pay 13k for a roller... http://www.datsunclassifieds.com/showproduct.php/product/6828/title/1970-240z-serial2300087/cat/1 Still would be nice, after you do a full restoration on it. So the value will be higher then most other Z cars, also how much work it needs will tell you if its worth it.
  3. ANy updates on the build? What else should we not buy from Datsun LLC lol
  4. I'll be ordering my new hatch sill this week or next. Im picking up the welder this weekend hopefully, I'll try and show how im going to tack it on and weld it, Im really due for an update, I'll get that up this week too...If I can remember lol. I have most of the car down to metal now and im stripping the doors and fenders. I found an E31 head and its at the machine shop right now getting cleaned, blasted, and Im pretty sure i'll be switching the valve seats to steal instead of the old bronze ones. Most of the valves were sealing just fine, but with two broken studs and the valves caked on with carbon deposit they will be cleaned too. After thinking long and hard I'll be running this head stock with my E31 block and adding triple mikunis and my MSA 6-1 Exhaust, an electric fan, new radiator. I feel that power will keep me happy for awhile till I either build my High compressing MN47/F54 flat top motor. I'll be doing a more performance cam, springs. But that will be one day for my combo. Im really trying to convince my wife to help me with the interior, what Im looking for is a suede/alcantara type of interior like todays super cars. Im not going to add too much Dynamatt sound deadner as that stuff is really heavy, but I will be adding some to the fire wall, center transmission tunnel. But I don't know how much it weighs so I may add more in the end but well see. Video to come this week guys I promise!
  5. Where in central ca? What exactly are you taking so we know what's up for grabs.
  6. I'd give them a call anyways. Couldnt hurt, and they can give you some pointers.
  7. I had a friend help me with mine and he said instead of using motor oil we used transmission fluid. He said 10w 30 was too thick, are the carbs also from Z therapy? Im pretty sure if you call them and ask them whats going on they can help you tune over the phone. They are super nice!
  8. Because he had to take classes on welding...lol Im pretty sure his dad taught him too since his dad did a bunch of construction type jobs. He is my go to guy since he's almost family dating my sister in law.
  9. My friend who's almost done with his mechanical engineering degree is going to teach me. But Im also not going to try and weld something on the car till I get the hang of it. I'll practice and some sheet metal first and most likely have my friend with me. What I'll most likely do is get a mig and then when I'm done I'll practice on some other stuff, when it comes time for suspension I'll either find a tig and just break down and buy it, or I have found tig rentals. I think I'm going to end up getting the Lincoln 140hd Pack since it comes with a bunch of stuff and there's a coupon at lowes right now. The only thing I'll need to get is gas and some sheet metal to practice on.
  10. I found a used HTP 140 MIG from HTP and its 489 bucks. What do you think about purchasing a used welder? Its 1000 bucks brand new, and the seller says it works. Your thoughts?
  11. Just read this again and saw that you can get a spool gun for aluminum. I think Im going to look at Migs then, there's a place near me that sells welders Everlast is the name ( http://www.everlastgenerators.com/welding-equipments.php ) I think they are having a sale right now too. I would get the tank for sure, I heard Airgas lets you borrow a tank though, I don't know about how long and how much though.
  12. Well I was going to do the suspension which I thought was aluminum, and figured i would need the TIG, I knew looking into welding that im going to have to watch some videos and teach myself. I have no problems trying to get into a welding class at the JC near me, its the timing that may not work to get there. I also have been hearing about how TIG welds are more structural and have harder welds from what I heard and read. Since cash is always an issue for just about anyone I may just go with a mig. Can a mig do aluminum stuff as well? And if so is it also going to run in the over 1k price range?
  13. Ask Jdizzy204 he lives in Japan and might be able to find some even on yahoo Japan auctions.
  14. Yeah, hopefully I can get some good info from them.
  15. Well I would be using it for body work, suspension, and possibly in the future for something else, thats why Im looking for one relatively affordable. I know after I get the body done I won't be doing anything else with it for awhile till i learn about my suspension.
  16. So Im looking to buying my first welder, I just stated looking and Yes Ive never welded before. Now Im pretty sure I want to go Tig because of the versatility even though it will be a lot more difficult to handle. Anyone with experience in welding can you point me to the right direction of a affordable welder? I want it to be AC/DC for Steel and Aluminum, HF start, and 200amps Is Max i'll need. Any advice will be much appreciated.
  17. Yea man, had to join! I have been doing a lot since im fully restoring my car and doing some minor upgrades(i.e. triple mikuins instead of Su's, oil catch can, electric fan, better raditior) And if I can get my wife to do this...suede/alcantara like interior. WE'll see on that one lol. I just pm'd you my build thread. I'll be watching yours, I was going to do a stroker build later on, but I may be turning away from that since the price to put it together and the amount of power you get is not a lot. I did however get a MN47 head and can do flat tops on my spare f54 block and run a high compression with a better cam and exhaust. We'll see good luck with your build! I'll be watching.
  18. Hey I started watching your youtube videos awhile ago. Its Brickmuffin right? Perfect240z is my youtube name, Your going stroker now? You should make a video blog on your youtube channel so we can see your progress
  19. I was going to pm you jdizzy but it won't let me for some reason. But how much would a datsun competition wheel be compared to a replica price. I saw both on yahoo japan auction at one point but that was ages ago.
  20. Found one, this thread can be closed.
  21. You can turn the motor on with the valve cover off with a oil bar and not with a internally oiled cam/cam towers?
  22. If you get it, ask a professional. Might be worth 20 bucks
  23. I should talk to you tony about getting the horse power up in my l24 like you said they did in Japan at around 300hp is what you said right?
