  1. I`m almost positive that it`s "Dupli Color" the same manufacturer of the touch up paint by the same name
  2. The 260/280`s weigh more mostly because of the 5 mph bumpers, side impact supports and ac.Most of which could be removed. yea they are made of a little thicker guage steel ,but I think that`s an advantage because there is less body flex. especially if you don`t have a cage or frame ties. Thwe key is to get a car that is as rust free as possible so you can concentrate your time and money on mechanical mod`s where it really count`s everyone has their preferences, but a solid 240 will naturally be a little more expensive
  3. cheap in the short run is more expensive in the long run If your looking for a car, pick one that is as rust free as possible. When deciding on engine mods, Build it to handle more power than you plan on having. It will last alot longer.Always build with more power than you think you will need because later you`ll wish you had,and pay attention to the small details. They are what make a nice car a great car
  4. Do you have solid or hydraulic lifters? It`s very hard to describe how to adjust valve lash for solid lifters. It`s something I can show easier than tell.hydraulic on the other hand is pretty simple.I set them initially by following the directions in the manual. but afterwards I always readjust witha stethescope. I run the engine put the tip of the scope at the base of the spring, back off until it ticks then tighten just until it stops. This way you know they aren`t too tight or too loose I started doing this years ago because I thought the way they tell you in the books wasn`t quite consistent enough. I`m not sure how well this would work with solid lifters, I suppose if you had the engine at full operating tempurature it may work just as well. Unless someone says differently I might try this when I get mine installed and see what kind of results I get, I cant see that it would hurt too much But I`ve been wrong before.(don`t tell my wife that though)
  5. I`ve run as big as .045 in my ya212 , but it came with some.100 tips. So apparently the guy I got it from was doing some serious welding with it. Before his divorce , He had a body shop and built e-mod and sprint car frames, I`m pretty sure this is the welder he used. I only use .023 wire for sheet metal it takes less heat,so there`s less chance off warping and burn through.
  6. Does that mean even without traction control? If so that would be pretty cool because I`ve found a bunch of them for under 250,some as low as 150. They get about 100. for half shafts. Here`s the link http://www.car-part.com/works.htm click on buyer services.under parts search look for carrier.does 400. more or less, sound like a good deal for the diff w/ shafts?
  7. I`m just over 6' and 220 lbs and I`ve got plenty of room. there is alot of leg room and the seat goes back pretty far.you`ll have to be careful of what seats you use if you change them.If they sit higher you`ll have aproblem with head room
  8. I`m exploring options on what posi to use. I`m leaning towards the r230 but I`m not sure exactly which years of Q45 to look for. I`ve also been looking for r200`s but I`m reluctant to order something that may not be posi when it comes in. I just don`t want to hassle with returning it if it`s the wrong thing. Are there any specific Questions to ask someone who may themself not know what to look for?
  9. just a thought, Wouldn`t it be possible that some of the sediment is still in the block around the base of the cyls,in the water jacket? This is lower than the holes for the pump, especially the the far left and right hand sides of the block. Did you remove the plugs down by the pan rail on each side of the block? This would allow all of the coolant to completely drain from the block. Thanks for the tip
  10. Owen, that`s hillarious I guess it/you couldn`t handle the pressure. When it comes to welders I feel the bigger the better. I picked up a snap on ya212 230 amp 230volt mig w/ the bottle for 700.bucks This thing will weld damn near anything. The cooling fan alone is bigger than the craftsman welder(pre-sledghammered) and for anything that can`t handle I have two lincoln 230 ac/dc stick welders, one for the farm and one for the garage. I do still have a 110 flux core welder that I use for small things at the farm. I think all of these welders have their place. But I`ll make any excuse to buy another tool "GOD I LOVE TOOLS" <and this guy
  11. I`m sure someone here will have one eventually, After they cut one out to put in a fuel cell
  12. I know just what you mean.At the Advance Auto back in Wapak, all of the employees on all shifts know me by name and know my phone # .I`ve spent so much time and money in there, that the manager sells to me at jobber prices and calls me at home to let me know when somthing is going to be discounted It`s a different story down here, 90% of what I buy for my projects is from Ebay.I can`t wait to get started on my Z. For now I`m stuck on the chevelle. I`m going to weld new wheelhouses in tonight. Hey!! you bought the 240 from Ebay I emailed james m about that car since his zx was rearended.I thought it looked like a deal. If I had been at home in Oh you would`ve had some more competition bidding Congrats on the deal. It`s too bad I`m down here, I`ve got 2 or 3 starters in my garage in wapak that I would let you have.
  13. sorry ,I thought you meant the hatch itself. they still might list something there.either way it`s still a usefull sight
  14. Welcome to the site. the best way to fix it permanently is to replace the hatch with a rust free one. try here http://www.car-part.com/buyer.htm good luck
  15. I`ve got some old marker lights with overspray on them. When I get a chance, I`ll try the easy off and post my results
  16. while searching the chevelle forum, I found some usefull info for the the over spray removal dilema. easy off oven cleaner. Apparently alot of model car enthusiast use it to strip the paint from their plastic models when they want to repaint them, and some of the chevelle guys use it to strip painted interior pieces before they redye them. another usefull tip is to use shaving cream and cigarette ashes to polish plastic light lenses and instrument cluster lenses. I hope this info comes in handy
  17. just tossing around ideas stirring up a little gray matter
  18. I`m not really sure exactly how one works.I understand why they work but not how. My question comes from wanting to have higher oil capacity without sacrificing ground clearance,The windage benefits would be a bonus
  19. Has anyone here considerd using a dry sump oil system? does anyone have an opinion on the pro`s and con`s?
  20. If you find a good 350 block without a crank you could use the crank from the 307 to make a 327. you should have it balanced anyway so thats not really an extra cost
  21. at napa for about 20.00 you can get a can of red kote to seal the tank yourself. It works really well.it`s the same stuff alot of radiator shops use to seal fuel tanks.Just follow the directions on the can. It`s pretty easy
  22. I`m not sure if the 307 cyl walls are thick enough to bore to 4.00, but it would be nice. I`ve got two 307`s one is a 68 and the other is a 72.if anyone has specific info on this, please post cuz I`m really curious
  23. I guess I should have read the entire post Oh well maybe someone else can use the info
