you will just need basic hand tools and then you can rent a cherry picker and engine stand. You don't have to have a garage but it would be nice or at least have a place to put the engine when your not working on it to keep it from rusting.I carried my motor from the stand fully gutted to my truck so you could put it into a car with some rags and stuff. You can do it with a chilton's book it should be just fine they are descriptive on where everything goes. And if you have any questions i and i'm sure all of the other l28 guys will help.Don't worry after you do it once it's like a walk in th park;)Another option is that is you are in chicago it';s only like 3 hrs from me and i could help you or build you and engine.

damn steve well tell me how it works for you and how much if you don't mind me asking.I try to get things cheap so i can afford them cuz i'm not an employee of any major car companies like some other people i know I am probably the lowest paid guy on here well maybe not but darn close I love doing this stuff by my self cuz it's great spending time with your z and learning stuff on the way.I'd be lost if i just sent my car out to a company that built it for me and i didn't do anything on it.I have to work on my cars if i don't it doesn't mean as much to me.

well the rear i have is out of an 81zxt and it's a 3.54 gear in the back.My gauges are all stock except for the a/f gauge and boost gauge.sleeper beat me to it he's right an efi system is way more efficent. It would only take me about a full day to rebuild my motor.I'd suggest tryring to do it your self it's a good learning expirence. If not i couldn't tell you how much it would cost.

i think the sig is complete and the ic is just too small for the turbo. The pic i have attatched to my sig is one of the new turbo and old t3.The new one is much bigger and moves alot more air.As for times with a new ic i dunno but i'm guessing mid 11's or so.The ic sin't gonna be that expensive i'm getting timz's old one and he's giving me a deal on it. I tell you this tho my car is very fun to drive when it's running right. The dang ic just kinda ruins it all when it starts pinging so i ahve to back down the boost and stay at 10 to keep the car running good.Today on the way to work it was pushing 18 psi and it was hauling but when it warms up alot it reduces the boost i think cuz of the heat on the actuator making it open quicker to reduce the boost.I really need an external wastegate and i think i might get one this winter to save time and do it right.

why dopeople in z32 tt'2 think they are god?
scottyMIz replied to scottyMIz's topic in Non Tech Board
hey tom that's a good idea i'll do that next time.Or i'll say nice rx 7 I like the cars too lockjaw but some owners of them are worse than ricers -
hey dan i don't know the hp i'm putting down but my best time so far is a 12.86 @109mph and it was at 10 psi of boost. It has alot of power all the time off the line and when crusing.I think a better cooler would make a huge diff cuz then i could run like 20 psi of boost and make some real power.I'm just tickleing this turbo at 10 psi and anymore with the starion ic and i get detonation.I tried the volvo one but i killed it good. The only way i could use the volvo one is if i put on new aluminum end caps and i'm not gonna do that.Just so you know i run my car at the track just like i do on the street so i know what it'll do out there.I run street tires,205-55-16's and i run pump gas (94 octane) and the same amount of boost as on the street.I'm very happy with the results and i could get much better if i could hook.
-
sounds like it's running good.I just ran a 109.9mph pass and i turned a 12.9 flat but had a crappy 2.0 60' time on street tires. So 12's will definately not be a prob for you
-
ya my engine has alot of used stuff on it but it's the only way i can afford it all. OK i would just use a donor motor out of one of the zxt's cuz that way you won't have to adjust too much.I did do all the work myself except for the head work i let that to the professionals. But everything else i did myself and it wasn't hard. It's a good learning expirence to get your hands on that stuff and do it your self.I got good deals from tim and tony and scottie but i think they would have sold them to anyone for the price they told me.I just looked around alot and found good deals. If you just keep looking around you could find everything i have for prolly the same price or even less.I think i have to tear her down again cuz running it hard yesterday i think i fried a ring lots of detonation and i didn't let off cuz i was mad that stupid starion ic doesn't work for crap.

sorry i didn't see the post sooner dan.I have a 76 280z not a 260 but it doesn't matter.I have about........prolly 2000 bucks into it including the clutch and aluminum flywheel.I might have forgot some things but i think that's about it.i'll try to break it down.550 for turbo,150 i think for dp from scottie,50 bucks for 65mm tb from tony fruzza, clutch and flywheel and radiator from timz for about 400 or so can't remember exactly, turbo engine was 100 bucks with computer and everything else i need.IC was free so i don't count that and it sucks.injectors i traded for my old merkur ones and i paid 120 for those,ic piping was like 30 bucks, blitz bov was 130,engine rebuild kit with head work done was 200.and 3" exhaust with magnaflo muffler was 200.and 100 bucks for a manual boost controller. That's about it i think.it was little here little there not all at once i couldn't afford it I still am getting an ic from timz and a tech 2 engine management system from him.So that'll drive the price up some more.I just am so hooked on speed now i need an iv of boost in my arm the engine is all stock put back to stock specs when i rebuilt it this winter but that has to be changed soon too i need a good cam soon too. It's the stock 81 zxt motor l28et Anymore questions just ask i'll be looking for it now:)

i plan to do mine this winter when i put the car away.I'm glad cody got pics and stuff it'll help me alot when i do mine.I didn't use a spacer on my t4e hybrid.I wanted to keep use of the nice dp i bought from scottie so i ground out enuf material so it would fit with out touching and then put header wrap between the two pieces and it seems to work great so far.I might take more out this winter but it all depends how much space i can get when i index the turbo for the new ic i'm getting from timz. His turbo is pointing down i think and mine is pointing out twords the fender, I figure if i turn it it'll put the smallest part of the compressor by the manifold.

ok guys raced the ss that i played with last night
scottyMIz replied to scottyMIz's topic in Non Tech Board
i do need a bigger gear it kinda pissed me off when he went by till i saw how fast i was going I also looked to see where my rpm was and it indicated i had no more to give unless i wanted the rods on the road But i'm very happy with the outcome.I just want to race him at the track hopefully he comes out this weekend so i can really show him what the car will do. -
i had to get some money and saw that same ss sitting talking to some of my friends. My one friend raced the ss and got smoked bad so they decided to line me up with him.So my friend hops in with me and we drive out to the road cuz we didn't want any traffic or cops buggin us.I told my friend to stay in the car(might as well)So we line up and he says one, two ,three and we went but then i blew an ic hose and stopped So i fixed the hose and we tried again my friend starts us again and he gets the jump with no wheel spin(auto trans) i spin like crazy and my front is at his door as soon as i got traction i start reeling him in.I hit second and he's about one length behind then third he stays the same loosing a bit fourth much of the same then fifth i maxxed out the rpm and he hit over drive and went on by.I was excited to beat him with a person in the car! That thing hooked like crazy i was impressed very impressed We decided to run again the other run was the same thing him getting the jump and me whoopin him till i max out on rpm in 5th gear. That thing has a whole lot of gear I wanna run him with no one in the car once he is suppose to come to the track someimt and run so i'll have to do it there. One time is enuf for me i had enuf adrenilin flowing to run a city
-
that's what i thought but you know i have to ask don't wanna blow my intake ;)Thanks guys
-
ok guys i saw in the 9 sec post that over 20 psi will split the stock manifold, is that true?It seems to me that timz is running 25 psi and it spiked to 30 on him.I have a 76 non egr intake and if it's gonna split then i wanna get a different one.help oh wise turbo gods
-
well after changing my intake and exhaust gasket cuz mine was shot.I was in the turn lane saw this black car then noticed the red ss badging and said to my self oh ya We headed out of town and the there was some traffic but on the last light out of town it merges to one lane so you have to be quick if you stay in the right lane. The light was red and i was right behind him then it turned and he floored it so i thought what the hell and so did i letting off so i didn't run into him he was prolly crapping his pants to see this little car right on his butt. to the power of turbo

scottyMIz replied to scottyMIz's topic in Non Tech Board
thanks sleeper and i do think the z32's are very nice cars but not "all that" i mean come on if it wheren't for our cars theirs wouldn't be around right now.It took every stage of them to evolve as far as they have.I totally respect 240's cuz if it wheren't for them my car wouldn't be here. They seem to think if they are old they suck and it just makes me mad.I mean no disrespect to those who have z32's and are nice and intelligent people but for those who think they are god they can get a real life. -
why dopeople in z32 tt'2 think they are god?
scottyMIz replied to scottyMIz's topic in Non Tech Board
hey sleeper you might know why would my car loose and gain boost psi?I blew a small chunk of my exhaust gasket out could that be why?The bolts vibrated loose and it leaked and blew a section out. -
why do they thik they are so fast?I went to the z show and everyone with a z32 just thought they where the gods of zcars. I rode in a tt just to see how fast they where and it was quick but i could have beat it with my car, he claimed it would hit low 12's although he only ran a mid 14 at 104mph and has never got it into the 12's Then i took a friend for a ride in my z cuz he wanted a ride and when i take off the first time everytime my car smokes cuz it runs so ruch. When i can back she was really running rich and she spooled up right infront of all those guys and left a patch in second about 15 feet long posi all the way I asked my friends if the tt guys said anything and they said that the su's in the first gen z's are hard to tune that's why my car smoked so bad I hate ignorant people but it makes me even madder when it's a z owner that thinks he the god of all zs.OK ok ranting done the z meet was nice more z32's showed this year and there was alot of first gen zs i was the only hydrid z owner there so everyone liked my car but i didn't win anything Oh well the guy who won was a very nice guy i met last year with a g nose z and it was very nice and clean. The new z was there and i got to sit in it and rev it up(sounds nice) it has alot of options and is VERY nice inside.I was haveing probs with boost on my car it will change from 18 to 15 to 12 to 8 it just never stays the same and i don't know why I'll have to ask in the turbo section about that one but it was fun to see all the zs in one place and everyone talking to each other(the first gen ppl)

well i used the design that i described but i used smaller pipe and then used hydraulic hose as the bushing(has metal brade in it)and then used bronze bushings and it doesn't move at all i had my lady get in and put on the ebrake and then go forward and back and the diff stayed right there. But when i changed driveshaft flanges from my other r200 to the 3.54 r200 i tried to tap the flange back on instead of tightening it on like i was suppose to so now i get noise when it's on decel and only when i let off the throttle before i push the clutch in.So tonight i'm gonna try to tighten it more just incase i didn't do it enuf before. But so far the mount has been proven on timz's car he runs the same design but with regular bushings and mine is just a modified version of it.I like the way it loks and lets me still have alot of room under there for the ebrake and everything. Thanks guys for the suggestions i'll update if it will hold my torque monster at the track next time i go.

i'm running 3" from my dp to the back and it fits fine.I'll have to get some pics i had the local muffler guy do it for me.
-
all i have to say is at least he didn't get someone telling him to search the archives. That is just a pain in the butt to have someone tell him kinda snotty to do it.I would rather have no one reply than to get bad dumb replies.Just my two cents and mak is right there are alot of posts and sometimes mine don't get replied to and it's no big deal.FWIW i knew about cars way before i was 16.I could do alot at 13 that most people can't now.But i have been around cars my whole life so that could be some kind of excuse.
-
i like the other design better that someone made it works good. The one with two pieces of pipe welded into the mount on the car and use the old stock mount and drill holes and then put in rubber mounts and bolts all the way thru. That way if the rubber breaks you stull have a bolt running thru to hold you.Oh ya i also found that i broke the aircraft cable holding the diff down
-
ok i searched and found that someone had asked this and i found three great sites that have good info si i plan to do that it says on them and make my own.Is everyone with some good power out put modded their diff mount?
