really wish i had taken a picture of it. let me try it again-there is a frame which bolts to the hatch floor [where the spare used to be] and stretches upward and the hatch closes onto [no other latching] with 4 long pins that protrude through the hatch and extend then through holes in the base of the wing [which mounts to the surface of the hatch]. once the hatch closes you install 4 clevis pins through the large pins on the frame. you could literally stand on the wing and not bend it at the hatch as it sits directly on top of the frame when open the only support the wing has is from the hatch itself. when closed it gains support from the frame inside the car. hope it makes sense this time. -

i was at watkins glen a few weeks ago instructing and speaking with the owner of the organization i was attending. he has a very modified track mustang with new monster wing on it. i was looking at his 'new addition' and noticed a pretty trick looking aluminum frame that the hatch closed onto with pins that protruded through the hatch and base of the wing. clevis pins that went through a hole in the post securing the wing-which is also bolted to the hatch. the 'posts' are slightly larger in diameter than a traditional hood pin and similar looking. this provided mounting support for the wing and allowed quick access to the hatch area for refueling and such. the frame has 4 pins that the base of the wing closes onto. hope the way i explained it makes sense. unfortunately i do not have a picture of his car nor could i find anything on the net. -

update-driver or left side prototype looks nearly complete, saw a pic this morning and will post [actually sunnyz will] soon. question for you guru's on frame rail dimensions for both 240 & 280. are the length, distance between and such the same on the frame rails from 240 through 280? i ask as the fabricator has one of the tubes fairly close to the frame rail on sunnyz's 280 and wanted to ensure it won't pose any issues when installed on a 240. i'm fairly confident they are the same but wanted to confirm. thanks, david -

i purchased a z from a fellow hybrid member and when it arrived i had my paint guy come over so we could discuss 'the plan'. anyway, he discovers the car was halved [meaning it was rear ended at some point in its life and had a donor clip grafted on just behind the rear seats. at that point i think he realized i was going to either part or sell the z. he now wants it to restore for himself-knowing that he can perform the labor to 'make it right' and look great. so we swap that z, some parts to make it whole and i pay for materials. was a great deal for us both. every panel on jade was dented-we think either with a baseball bat or crow bar or both. battery had leaked, creating a large hole under the battery box and rotting the floor pan support. charley from zedd findings shipped me a new pan support, he used an old dodge neon hood to patch the hole under the battery tray and done. i also had him weld all the holes from the aftermarket a/c lines, install a patch panel in the right dog leg and smooth the right lock hole [gives me a spare door lock!]. dog leg before and after [awaiting paint]... battery box during re-construction... i'll post pics of some of the panel work. he did an amazing job. also, notice the hatch is a [not really] series 1. actually it is a later 240z hatch and we mounted the vents from a series 1 to make it look authentic without the duct work. left rear quarter during repair right quarter-another 'dent' the 'inspector' toby-paint & body guy jason's son. notice the lock removal in progress and the original window sticker! it along with owner manual and paperwork came with the z. in case you are unable to read the numbers and such; $3596 base price, $75 dealer prep & handling, $15 destination for a grand total of $3686! was sold by godding & clark motors in gainsville, fl. came into the us via jacksonville by truck. vin is hls3019296. jan 1971 car. -

butterscotch interior is going. it was many different/faded shades & colors of the original-only the headliner color was decent [it is falling down...]. i am only missing the hatch panel then the panel set [in black] is complete. i plan to remove; headliner, 'a' pillar and windshield headliner trim and replace them with black. picked up a nice 5 speed [which is in the car now] last fall for cheap and think we'll put a series II console in. grabbed a pair of integra seats about a year ago for about $100 [were significantly less than rebuilding the oe seats] and have a complete carpet kit ready to go. -

ok, been waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too long since the last update. we got a bit of enthusiasm over the past 2 weeks. seems every time we tackle an assembly step it the single 'step' turns into the 'while i'm at it's' and involves a multitude of steps. picked up some used tires-215/55/16 [had tried a few different sizes-the used skins will be fine for now as my son can't get his permit until late sept this year]. so, new tokico hp's [nice price from john coffey at beta m'sports], eibach springs, new front ball joints, refurb'd the steering rack, powdercoated lower control arms [and installed camber adjusters] & stock sway bar and replated a ton of hardware. the yellow zinc looks great with the 907 green. anyway, front suspension is finished! rear suspension is untouched. want to get the front finished first-then to the tail. once the suspension was finished we hung the fenders, headlight buckets, inspection lids and aligned them all the best we could. newly replated bolts in the door hinges [they sure do look purty!]. installed the radiator then mounted the hood and aligned it as well as the latch. closes nicely and looks great. emma detailing the door jamb prior to fender install alan installing newly replated door hinge bolts-they're purty! left rear shot showing hatch installed engine bay-fenders, headlight buckets, inspection lids & hood installed! left front suspension nearly complete-calipers not mounted yet-determining whether to paint or not to paint, that is... next-wiper cowl cover, air dam, front bumper, horns, lights, connect wiring, rad hoses and so on. then plan to move to the doors-all latching hardware has been replated, new billet dovetails, lock pulls & such [go figure]-thanks jimmy z for them! once the doors are completed we'll move to the tail. hatch is already installed, latch hardware on and aligned. then we'll tackle the interior. here are a few pics-more later! -
