  1. example pics would help, also suggest you add location [city/state] to your profile.
  2. bfo, thanks-as always for your insight. i'm not a fan of the other than stock alternator position either and am doing my best to exercise patience. i would rather wait longer and have the best outcome than rush and settle for less.
  3. i am using the johns cars 'long' left mount and low alternator position so am not really able to comment. would like to hear from others as this is a valid point. another thought-perhaps the 'long' mount could be modified to allow greater clearance... thanks for posting!
  4. all, just spoke with our fabricator-spent about 40 minutes discussing progress, etc. with him this morning. status; right [passenger] side mild steel proto is complete, left [driver] side is kicking his tail [his words not mine]. the primary challenge is the large 'bar' the john's mount system uses. he feels that he has a solution and told me that by end of next week he expects to have the mild steel proto complete. next step-once the mild steel proto's are complete he'll order ss materials and build the first set-collectors, flanges, complete welds, etc. they will then be test fitted and we'll post pics here so we can all see what the [near] finished product looks like. once we've given our "seal of approval" then i'll provide the fabricators contact information, you'll place/pay deposit for your order and they [ss proto's] are sent off to be manufactured in quantity for our group buy. after the initial gp buy is filled the price will increase-i am unsure at to what it will be. as always, thanks for your patience and remember, i'm in the boat with you.
  5. i'm certain jimbo, pervayor and z wrench extraordinaire of z-mecca can provide the insight you seek. i've visited z-mecca many times while vacationing in the tampa clearwater area as well as visiting carl beck's place. both gentlemen are die hard z fanatics and possess much knowledge. i frequently call both-especially now that i'm in the re-assembly process of our father-son-daughter 71 z.
  6. great vid-thanks for sharing
  7. spoke with our builder early saturday afternoon and wanted to post. it's been a week since my last update-i'm jonesing as much as the rest, if not more for pics and such. right side design is pretty much there. had what he thought was a great proto then tried to remove it and it would not comeout without removing something or moving the engine-aargh! cut it apart now for the 3rd time. left side he said is 'kicking my tail' to incorporate our design requirements but also said he is confident will be completed soon. we are definitely behind schedule-which bums me as i had hoped to have them on the z and driving already-no such luck.
  8. try greyhound express, should be less than $100 for a full body kit.
  9. no worries ryan, i apologize i did not catch this at the beginning...
  10. 240z in rochester, ny. can go look at for anyone interested-pm me. david
  11. it's hard not to take it personally as i feel if this does not come out like we expect then it's on me-hope you can understand that. just like everyone else who is on the list i wanted them a month ago, exactly as we desired by the initial expectations but, as a good friend of mine long ago told me "everything takes longer than it does...". if, once they are completed you desire to purchase them that's cool. water under the bridge & no hard feelings
  12. if you feel it so vital-why didn't anyone bring it up? sorry, i am NOT perfect, i didn't think of everything, i am NOT an engineer. i AM a z enthusiast, i AM trying to do something no one has done before for those of us who have stretched our limitations and installed something unique in our z's and i AM doing my best to see this through while balancing everything else in my life. ok mistafosta, i get it-you're out.
  13. finally reached the builder today after trying for 2 days. they are close proximity to joplin-while they did not experience any damage their phone service has been out then spotty for a few days. update-right side proto nearly complete. you will need to pull the header to change the starter but he feels [based on similar lt's for the vettes] that heat will be any concern. left side, cut apart awaiting new bends to build again. no way to route any tubes outboard of the steering rod due to the size and location of the johns cars mount-it takes much room. he's hoping about a week to get that side figured out. i did send to him all the images from both of our down under friends custom lt's for reference and ideas-thanks again for posting them 'boy from oz' and 'zed240au'!! important-asked me today-"dave, anyone running auto trans?" told him very few and asked why. replied that these headers will NOT work if you are running an auto. if you are, no problem or hard feelings if you need to back out-we did not realize this when the thread began. this is what i know at this point. as always, thanks for your patience, i'm in line with you!
  14. the speed bleeders are great but won't help with an inverted caliper as with this or the silvermine kit [which i have]. once bled the sm brakes work great but i wasn't a huge fan of having to remove the caliper, invert it. hold on the rotor [providing the pads a stop limit] then bleed. it made it a 2 person job, slower and more complex. i have since rectified it [with nigel's help!] and the calipers are now oriented correctly [bleeders now on top] and bleeding is a breeze.
  15. zed240au, many thanks for posting pics of your LT's. i have forwarded them to our builder.
  16. day after comments were posted about left/driver side he began cutting the proto to incorporate our feedback [ground clearance, proximity to steering coupler/brake lines, equal length tubes, etc].
  17. boy from oz, wOw, your system looks great from underneath-any pics of the rest of the exhaust to share?! i received some pics today of the right side proto as well. his process was draw both sides, build one, build the other, test fit and so on. he's already begun to make mods to the left proto as per feedback that has been posted in this thread and commented that we have presented a formidable challenge for him [me thinks he is enjoying this!].
