1 tuff z replied to lowdown's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
can u post a pic to help us see the problem more clearly? i'm running them on my z [for a few years now] and have had no interference problems. -

moving the cables, i probably should have described it better and said move the springs to give more slack. thanks for bringing that to my attention. i have not done anything else yet. -
hmm, dinner in socal-perhaps in the future i'll head to the msa or another big z car show and take you up on that offer!

no, the install will happen over the next month or two-as weather in my unheated northeast garage will allow. we peaked today at 40 degrees F. that means i can spend about 20-30min or so before the old hands don't work as effectively as they should. update on the kit-bajaracer's machinest told him the brackets would not rust. and they do, so all brackets will now be plated. so, off to the plater my brackets will go once i've test fitted them. gotta order my brake pads still. took the calipers to the parts store today to test fit their 'store brand' pads. the pads i like to run are 'no return' and i wanted to confirm correct fitment. 05-07 mustang gt, 07-08 mustang gt500 & shelby. looks like the spot where the e-brake cable splits [above the nose of the diff] will need to be moved a tad-to allow a bit more length at the caliper. brackets are top notch and look like they'll stand up to just about anything. calipers are nice as well-nothing like brand new [not reman's!]. i'll post updates as i progress. as of now, just pulled apart the Left side-dont even have the 240sx caliper detached from the line yet. -
jay, i'll hold you to that dinner. last time i was in dayton was on my way to camp pendleton to the marine corps air station. stopped to see friends and...tour the fantastic air museum there-for the whole day! thanks for the positive comments! david

greetings everyone, i wanted to extend a happy thanksgiving to all i've come to know here on hbz and their families. i hope that on this day we can all sit back and take a look at our lives and how blessed we really are. i'm thankful for many things, among them-freedom [thanks to our military], roof over my head, a great job, family & friends who love me, a fantastically understanding partner/best friend/wife, terrific children, enough $ to cover our needs [and then some] and...an awesome sportz car! have a great day and don't forget to let others know what you are thankful for!

mark, thank you for the kind words and taking the time to post them. long ago someone told me the only part of myself that i have any real control over is my integrity/reputation and i work hard on both. that said, those two are predominant here on hbz and part of the reason i 'hang around' here!

salvage value, drum roll please...$330. i'll net around $3700 after their check, which is slightly less than what it'll cost to repair it. so far, hood, r fender & liner, bumper, r turn sig assy, r headlight assy, battery, radiator, radiator core support, r hood hinge, coolant overflow tank, windshield washer tank and probably more once the bodyshop gets it all apart. funny thing, i stopped by today to take a pic-now the key won't come out of the ign...yet another problem to sort out.

completed my 'negotiations' with the ins co. got them to extend the rental car for another week and to come up another 900 on the car [just over 4k] and will fax the title today to complete the paperwork at my end. gave the bodyshop the go yesterday afternoon as well as ordered a new radiator crossmember from local dealer, found the rest of the front clip from a [somewhat] local person who had converted his convertible to the jdm front end. got fender, hood, headlight assy's, signal lenses, bumper and fender liner delivered [from 1 hr away] for...$275. that part made this affordable. in about 3 weeks it'll be back on the road. conveniently enough, next week my father joins my mom in florida and i get the use of his car-for taking him to & fro the airport. he's going for a month.

i looked at the caliper, didn't see any markings except for some numbers and the oval ford logo stamped or cast into the caliper bracket. -

i went to diff compounds-hawk hps up front and more aggressive hp+ in the rear-still didn't do the trick. measurements for the brake setups: 240sx s13 [89-94]-piston 1 5/16", rotor 11 3/8" dia & 3/8" thick-solid silvermine [gt500]-piston 1 5/8", rotor 11 13/16" dia & 3/4" thick-vented once i have the new pads i'll post measurements of those as well. i didn't order pads as i'm going with the same front & rear, hawk hp+. they seem to work pretty well on the track for me. will also post pics of the old vs. new [on car] as well as comments and feedback after the snow thaws and i get the z back on the road! -
very nice job indeed. yet another hbz innovation!

got back from the body shop, car is totalled. now comes the process of negotiating with her ins. co as to what they'll give me and if it makes sense to buy it back.

mike, i'm running the mml extreme fronts. they are a 13" coleman rotor on alum hat with the alum pbr 2 piston caliper. work fantastic. -
lady decided to turn left, from the right lane [2 lane, one way street] to make, you ready for this? a u turn, where else but...in front of me. i got on the brakes & horn and scrubbed as much speed as possible before hitting her left front door & fender. i get out of the car, make certain she's ok before i yell "what were you thinking...?". she, of course apologizes for making the turn and that she 'didn't see me' and she's so sorry for wrecking my cool little red car, blah, blah. so, off to the bodyshop to get the custom bodywork undone... anyone got a 240sx parts car sitting around?

add-i am currently running the 240sx rear brake setup on my z, retaining parking brake and it uses a 300zx solid [non-vented] rotor. i found that, even with the prop valve completely open or removed i still can not lock the rear brakes. i anticipate with this new setup, larger piston as well as larger pads and vented rotors i'll not have the same challenge. as part of this upgrade, i'll be re-installing my wilwood prop valve. -
just arrived in the mail today, my new rear brake kit from silver mine motors [bajaracer on hbz]. i'll take pics & document the install as well as street & track impressions once i get it all done. part of what helped my decision was a friend just dropped nearly $4,000 on brakes for his 350z-just for the fronts! so far; quick shipping, good communications during sale, well packaged and effective instructions. all the parts are brand new [vs the reman calipers i have now]. calipers, rotors, mounting hardware and brake lines. i opted out on the pads as i'll order hawks hp+ to match what i have on the front. here's a pic of what i received as well as one of my spare 240sx calipers for size comparison. i'll measure the pistons later but there is a noticable difference, also the pads are considerably larger.
