  2. you're right dave, i saw a great pair of exposed stacks in playboy the other day! no plexi covering, just out there for visual enjoyment.
  3. i'll comment on the tire size. i have a 17x8.5" wheel on my z [check pics in my gallery] and have run the 235.45.17 with no problem. if memory serves me correctly the tire sidewall was just about even with the lip on the rim [they didn't bulge out]. currently running 245.35.17, and the tire sidewall bulges a bit beyond the rim lip [gives me a bit of 'curb' protection]. i'd guess that the 235 would be the widest you could run with this rb-r wheel unless you milled the +4 off the back of wheel and ran coilovers or your tire would probably hit either; fender, strut or both.
  4. try motorsport auto... http://www.thezstore.com/page/TZS/CTGY/FMM
  5. try contacting bryan from seatz, he'll know and can supply them as well. i've had him run custom orders and they price very nicely as well [leather, different colors/patterns, etc]. http://www.seatzmfg.com/seatz/index.htm
  6. Will there be anything else before I go to Nigeria and get abducted by oil crazed revolutionaries? (On the slate after Morocco) big t, thanks for taking time from your 'well oiled' schedule to help a fellow z bro! i will now appropriately label the tanks as to not forget their application. tony, you da man!!
  7. that would be tom neeley [owner of earls #1 store in cali] hard at work, making it easier for us rookies. i ordered all of my -6 braided teflon line, an fittings, brake lines, clutch braided line, parts for my clutch slave bleeder line and new fuel cell in z tank parts and more from him-very helpful and quick with the orders...
  8. celebrate responsibly there ricky and don't do anything the hbzr's wouldn't approve of! come to think of it, that pretty much leaves you open to, well...anything. i'll add myself to those folks with the great month of september-me the 13th-just hit...47
  9. couple reasons for my own application. no mods to the body retain my spare tire well [had a flat on my return trip from daytona last year] that would have been an extremely long process without the spare tire can be installed in any 240z retains stock 'look' from any view
  10. thanks-you did pave the way. plus, i gotta give back sometime...
  11. i was asked this morning "Do you have any more of the steel flanges for use in creating a "monzter" gas tank? If so, please let me know the price." i contacted my friend who is a cnc machinest and made the 'ring' or steel flange that was used to mod my fuel tank-modeled after monzters. he told me that to make them, it would be a minimum run of 5 and cost would be $50 + shipping. i asked him that if we had 5 who wanted them could he modify them to have only 1/4" of material outside of the bolt holes vs. the 1/2" he did for me [which was a bit too large and had to be trimmed]. he said no problem. specs-1/4" cold rolled steel, cnc cut, holes drilled & tapped to fit the atl standard fuel cell blank cap [which is $50 from earls store #1 in calif]. i'm going to post this in the group buy forum... here's the thead: http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?p=935017#post935017
  12. that is how i had my setup-drain plug, filter, pump and still experienced starvation during longer hi-g corners-this was also with an early more baffled 280 tank. go figure.

  14. if you look at the middle pic [overhead shot] in post #24 you'll see that the blackbox is against the 'added' baffle. we bolted it onto the baffle with stainless screws and sits on the bottom of the tank. the atl part number is cfd600 [go to pg1 of this thread and see the atl catalog image monzter posted]. here's a pic of the cnc 'cap ring' i have available.
  15. let me know on the ring...
  16. . jerry, my suggestion-if you want to seal the tank after the mods would be this [monzter feel free to add your thoughs as well]. cut the top open as we did, weld in an additional baffle [similar to what our black box is mounted to] and install the 'trap doors' as we did. i think then i would fabricate some sort of dual or triple pick up system. perhaps a pickup at each end and one in the middle. i'd also probably [for the middle pickup] create a sort of can that attaches to the bottom of the tank with the flappers on it-allowing fuel in but not out.
  17. x64, the tank on the left in the 1st pic is the original from my 4/73 z. i did remove all the vents and had used a bulkhead fitting above the sending unit [see the hole...] for my vent line. i thought the 'x' tank to be a later model due to it's return line size of 8mm vs. my original return line of 4mm. zgeezer, yes-i did remove all the vent fittings. also, i had the 280 tank in my 73z, needed to extend the j-bolts and one of the straps didn't fit in the indentation of the tank. checked your tank pic-my 280 tank looks just like the one in your pic-what year 280 did u pull it from? i had read somewhere that the 75-76 tanks and 77-78 tanks are different but never had them side-by-side to compare. hence my post-to determine which one i had [as well as pin down the 'x' tank].
  18. bump & help?! where's mortensen when i need him? tony d.? buehler?
  19. i have [in the pics that follow] a tank that i'm not certain what year z it fits. the one on the left in the first pic is the original tank from my 73 240z. in the middle is the unknown [i'll call it "x"] and the right is from an early 280 [or so i was told]. the 280 tank i just removed from my 73, i had installed it a few years ago as i read it would be great for a track car as it had additional baffling [compared to a 240 tank]. i have now replaced it with a modified 240 tank with an internal cell and additional baffling. here are some measurements and other info. length; 240 & x are 35", 280 is 38". distance between the tank strap indentations are; 240 & x are 15.75", 280 is 17". fuel feed/return diameters; 240-8mm/4mm, x-8mm/8mm, 280 i don't know as it was modified with an -6 fittings [feed where the drain plug was and return in the orig location]. vents; 240 & x have 3 total-at the end and 2 at the top, 280 has 2 total but at the top. you'll also see some other differences. the 280 tank has a raised area just under the spare tire well. it has the fuel feed/return toward the middle and below the tank seam [where top & bottom halves join] and is indented in that spot, 240 & x tanks have them adjacent the sending unit in the top portion above the seam. there is another difference, along the right side[near fuel filler at top] you'll notice the beveled edge that nestles along the subframe [that sub provides support for the bumper mount] curves the same for x and 280 and differs for the 240. so, i hope someone can help me to id the 'x' tank [i suspect 74] and perhaps nail down the applicable years for the 280 tank [i believe it is for 75-76] but may be later. ok, here are the pics...

  23. here are some of my pics. they look nearly the same as monzter's. filled up today, no leaks [thankfully] and so far so good... here's a shot of the tank [w/o the cap]. the an fittings are for feed [top] and return [bottom]. i used a 1/4 cold rolled steel plate and had an oval cnc'd that provided the form to shape the tank around and the cap to bolt to. top shot-shows the atl black box mounted to the added baffle. here's a 'final product' pic. gave it a quick flat black rattle can job but ran out of paint before i could hit the top-figured no one sees the top anyway and i'll deal with it later...
