The cam itself says E30, which my cam also has.

It will cost me 3500 a year just for liability on my 87 z31t

Hahaha, I noticed that too. As soon as I noticed Stealth-Z and S15_200sx, as well as the person who posted a picture of their SOHC in their Z made mention of their RB30's and I came in with the N/A idea... everyone was like "hmmmm 2.6... or 3?" I enjoyed hangin out (don't tell anyone about the pile of rust in my garage) Cool, if you could send me another one back, I'll cover whatever costs you say it is (mine and a copy if possible ). Also, make sure the metal is the same if you have a selection... The unit that it was originally copied from was a lesser material in terms of quality and durability. That one is supposed to be better material. Who knows =) Lemme know how the plastiguagin' goes. temperature is important!

Toss an RB20 in the 510! Come on! Stay! I got's candy! -
you can fit about 6 blocks standing on their flywheels or flex-plates. the pallet will then be enclosed, so it's now a "crate". it will cost about 300 dollars to make the crate by someone who can get it stamped for shipping approval over in AUS, as far as I've been told. I saw the crate when I went to go pick up my first engine from the importer, and it looked pretty well built to take all that weight. One thing that I've found, just by turning over the engines by using a breaker bar is that the engines that had automatic transmissions seem to turn over a bit easier. Probably a sign that the thrust bearing was not abused, and that the transmission was easy going on the entire rotating assembly.

"My unborn son had a Z like yours!" I wish, that thing is sweet man. Have you ever posted your times with all your goodies? love it

post a price for the gasket, I've got to do some measurements for compressed gasket thickness soon to calculate my final CR, so I could use one if the price is right. I'll then get the VRS kit to do final assembly. All tomei stuff, hmm. NICE! (jealous)

Why wouldn't you go with head studs in the first place, instead?

There is no indication of any differential options with either, neither for the US or the Canadian models that you can readily see or dissect by using the VIN number. I'll have to punch it into Nissan FAST when I get home after new-years tomorrow, but I'll bet it's not going to spit out information about the diff. If I were to go into the actual "differential" parts list, it would then show me clutch discs. I'm sure of that, because I have the parts numbers for all the clutch discs, and that's how I found them.

The owner did not spend a lot of money on this particular repair. It seems to be done at a reduced rate. Another reason why I pointed a finger blindly, at first. I've removed all blind accusations within this thread up until I get an email back from the shop owner, who I'm sure will take the time to inform me of what was and wasn't done as well as why it was done this way. I've also asked that a moderator change the title of the thread to a question rather than a statement. As I said, I've met him in person and he's a great person. Chances are it's a Canadian specific model discrepancy. I'm going to see if I can find more info on it, but most of the stuff I've found is prefaced by the word "apparently", which doesn't seal the deal for me. I was talking with a fellow who picked apart an 87 turbo a couple of months ago, and told me he had taken the CLSD off the car and said it was an 87 turbo model as well. This was in October. That's when I started to read about the spring-steel clutch disk runs that a board member was doing here. So after seeing a lack of an LSD on my 87 turbo, naturally I was curious. Also, the previous owner was informed of the mph increase at the time of repair, and to be honest, I myself would not care about a 4mph difference in speed as I tend to drive 4 or 5 km/h under the speed limit anyway.

still would be nice so you can use the Innovate gadgets on another car, or rent them out, and have Wolf adjust trim levels using the integrated controller, no? good way to make the WB02 pay for itself.

the cam is most likely a regrind of the original E30 cam then. Are you sure there isn't a boost leak, or the waste gate isn't lodged open? It should make SOME boost. Especially so, with a 3.1 litre backing it up.
-
that looks and sounds great, but that doesn't look like 70mph. granted it could probably do it at an even higher speed, but that doesn't look right.
-
easiest way? probably put it in neutral, and shove something thin like a screwdriver down into the spark plug hole and turn the engine over by use of a large breaker bar/socket wrench until the screw driver doesn't raise up any higher, but starts to fall back in. not the most accurate by any means, but will get you close, and easy. Try checking for spark and fuel first. put your ear to the tank or the inline pump to see if you hear a buzzing or if the pump is vibrating. check the spark by a grounding plug or just putting each spark plug to the engine block so it arcs quickly. If you see it, it's sparking. Use a noid light kit for the injector signal, or just remove the injector rail and position it towards a bucket and see if they're spraying. if not, check the connections using a DMM with an audible beep, or a continuity tester, especially at the igniter chip and the fuel pump.

if you can figure out the prices, i may be down for a set.

mounting an 86lb battery in a z means it better be where the engine is supposed to be, or the driver better take a page from the "super size me" manual of weight balancing.

lol i find it eerie how as soon as my two RB30's are off the market, someone else comes and fills the void. I hope you sell them soon to carry your project further RB30's for ALL! w00t w00t! *w00t is the official 2007 "word of the year", according to merriam-webster

I'm going to change my first post to reflect the fact that I'm not sure what's happened here yet, and I've emailed the only two people who can do something about it, and one has replied, the other I am waiting on. Adding to that, I'd still like to verify with some good evidence whether or not the 04/87 Turbos did come with a CLSD in the Canadian market at all. I've read somewhere that the 88's were the first to be equipped with them, which doesn't surprise me because of the differences between the s13's and s13 coupes and hicas + vlsd options that were or were not available or standard on Canadian models. Nissan likes to do this, from what little I've seen.

Chassis stiffening & rust removal
Careless replied to EMWHYR0HEN's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
just cut a small section, from the top curve, directly down... and the clean up the burrs, then weld a flat plate where it used to be. -
I've also read that Canadian cars didn't get CLSD until 88? Is this true, or can someone denounce that claim.
-
You're most likely right with that one, I don't think they're going to eat the costs on this one. They'll expect some sort of payment. I'll ask for my worn clunky clutch diff back. LOL. It's not like I'm driving this car till the spring anyway. I can try and service an R200 CLSD diff. I don't mind. I THOUGHT something felt weird when I slammed it into 2nd gear and it went squirrelly for like 4 seconds, every which way on the wet pavement. Nah. This makes the car less enjoyable, because I was hoping to take it to a drift event this season, only to do some hot laps though... no real drifting, because at this particular event it's more of a series of practice laps. They'll probably ask for some sort of payment. Then I have to weigh in the difference between buying a new helical or clutch unit instead of going back to the stock CLSD. problem is finding one that will fit for a good price.
-
well why would you think it's something stock with bolt ons if he told you what it had, and left out the bolt ons? Perhaps he assumed that you can see the exterior and didn't need to mention it, but you can't exactly see what's inside, so that's all he told you about. Sounds like you got one hell of a car

Excerpt from tyndago: don't leave! we're all addicts here. we can help! -
There's the same pic I have on my computer at home =) Thanks Stealth-z. I tried calling my Nissan stealership today, but I forgot the parts dept. is closed today. Will call first thing in the new year. I THINK i had gotten a quote for the N1 pump at $410, which is double what Nismoparts or WestCovinaNissan sells it for on ebay. I'm going to double check that the 410 was not a nismo pump, and if it is, I will purchase the nismo.

Well, I just talked to the previous owner, and he had this to say: So the unit was definately replaced with a completely different one, but NO mention of the value was indicated. ESPECIALLY after looking through the receipts, I can pick out 2 of them that are over 1200 dollars in repairs, 1 over 2500, and 1 (this particular one) over 3400. I don't think he would have skimped on the differential unless it was the only one kicking around at the shop. Even then, they should be able to source one out. And the previous owner said he rarely even went into boost because it scared him, and he just liked driving the car because he got it for a dirt cheap price and found out its real value. I've also emailed the shop with an invoice number and date of repair, a long with what was told to the previous owner. :-/ still trying not to point fingers.
