  1. Damn that looks sweet I bet that would fit just right in my Z
  2. Jeromio, Unless someone replaced their Turbo calipers with NA calipers, these are definitely from a turbo car (pulled them myself). The mounting holes on the NA calipers didn't line up with the maxima brackets that I pulled. I didn't bother to check which side I was mounting. Did it late last night and just wanted to see if everything fit. I did notice that the rotors from the Turbo car were much deeper than the NA car though. Tim
  3. WOW, a conversion for my 240 that is true bolt on. This was so easy I am worried I did something wrong. Here is what I used: Rear rotors and calipers from 280zx turbo Rear caliper bracket from a 81 Maxima Complete rear suspension unit from a 76 280 If the image doesn't post, I put a bunch of pictures HERE I can't wait to get this thing on the road!!!! Tim
  4. quote Wouldn't that be a copyright infringement and land you up in the 'clink'
  5. There must be two different types of brackets (bolt on) for those year Maximas.Check out the earlier post using 280ZXT calipers with the maxima brackets ??? Tim
  6. The stories of low life Al radiators is from the old days. The Ally was more brittle and prone to cracking from vibrations, same applied to the old ally fuel tanks. Welding and joining practices have allowed for the Al to not become brittle. Even so, I would think that by mounting the radiator to some type of rubber/insulators would help out as most OEM ally radiators are. The only reason I didn't go with one of these Griffin or similar units (they do look sexy!!), is because I found the Camaro one in a JY for $30. just my 2c worth. 7. Here's some GN turbo heads on e-bay
  8. Kazu, I haven't been able to find a product that works all that well. I always just take my parts to the local machine shop. They use a hot water solution tank/cabinet and the stuff always comes out brand new. The cost is negligable. Tim
  9. All the articles I've read on the rear disk conversion using the Maxima brakets seem to use the NA 280zx 82+ rear calipers. When I pulled the Maxima brackets on Sat and the calipers from a 82 zx, the caliper mounting holes didn't line up w/ the bracket holes (caliper holes too close together. ). Needles to say I was bummed . Then I decided to pull the calipers off of a Turbo 280ZX. They fit perfectly. I grabbed the rotors too, just in case. The 'hat' part of the rotor was MUCH deeper than the NA ZX, so ??? I havent pulled my Z hubs apart yet, so I don't know if this is going to work, anyone know??? Thanks, Tim I will post Pictures tomorrow if necessary. [ October 30, 2001: Message edited by: Tim240Z ]
  10. I remember reading an article about some girl whose license plate was "3M TA3". It took the DMV 6 months to get it and they retracted the plate. Very clever!!! Tim In case you are still missing it...If you were to see that plate in your mirror, it would read: "EAT ME"
  11. I've used a piece of steel tubing (same as baseball bat I guess) before with good results. The trick is to do it slowly and carefully. Obviously you will need someone to help you (pushing the car back and forth), take several runs on each well, doing a little bend at a time. Patience will pay off!! Heck, I've used a glass 500ml Coke bottle before, and that worked. Tim
  12. FWIW, when I started my conversion, all I bought from JTR (AKA Stealth Conversions)was the setback plates and spacers. They aren't that expensive and to make them myself, even though a simple task, would take time, which it just wasn't worth. The trans mount, radiator support etc I made myself. For as simple as the JTR units were, they did seem quite expensive and I didn't agree with the design. All the other misc. items, like radiator, cables etc I picked up at the JYs. If I remember right, JTR wanted about $200+ for a Camaro Radiator, got a good one from the JY for $30 Tim
  13. Check the damper too. If it has weights on it too, that's a dead give away for a stroker setup. Tim
  14. Omar, I was debating this exact subject and decided this: I have an HEI with standard coil & module. I also have a factory points/condensor type distributor which I have converted to solid state with the Pertronix 'Ignitor' module. Since the later is smaller and allows the further setback of the engine, I'm using that one. Since I would want to buy the upgraded coil & module for the HEI anyway, I'll just buy a high output coil for the Pertronix unit. I don't think the engine can be too far back (within reason). BTW, Pertronix now has a 'mark II' version of the 'ignitor', but I'm not sure what the upgrade is. Tim
  15. Just to add my 2c worth. I know of a Trans Am (knight rider generation) that went 237 MPH without any major aerodynamic additions. Small strip of rubber on the front air dam and a small 'whale tail' on the back and was stable as can be. No belly pans or diffusers or splitters etc. I know that it's not a Z and I am comparing apples and oranges, but Food for Thought. Tim
  16. Yeah, a tool which could be hooked up to an impact wrench would be great. I've done it three time now with no problems, once on Saturday at the JY (where there's no pneumatics anyways)with my old claw hammer and some old bolts I found lying around, holding them with my vice grips. Took a bit of pounding (small hammer), but was definitely easier than getting off the maxima caliper brackets!!! Tim
  17. If you don't have any luck finding the info online, post or e-mail the numbers to me and I can look up in my book. Tim
  18. Very SWEET!!! Inspirational to say the least. BTW, are you running a lot of -ve camber in the front, or maybe too much toe out? Looks like some significant inside tyre wear. Again, very beautiful ride. Tim
  19. How about this: +-550ci all aluminum big block, twin turbo, FI w/ nitrous injection (3 stage of course). 'Vette C5 rear suspension (gearbox mounted at diff---great for weight distribution). JCR wide body kit and the fattest @ss tires that can be squeezed in. MOMO everythying inside and a 10 point cage, oh and will probably need a parachute and someone to follow behind me to refold it after every stop sign Obviously, some 13inch rotors and brembo calipers Nice to dream, huh...maybe one day when my numbers hit on the lotto Tim
  20. Try these sites: Contractor tools.com Parts North If these aren't good, do an internet search on cylinder hones, you'll find dozens, these are only 2. Tim
  21. Reality is just something that interrupts the flow of my day Tim
  22. I think it's the same as the TH350. Top outlet on the trans is the inlet and bottom outlet is the outlet....hope that makes sense If you want to be absolutely sure, just give your local tranny shop a call. Tim
  23. Len, Didn't see above if you replaced the coil. If it's bad it may be able to supply charge at low RPMs, but not recharge quickly enough at higher RPMs. That would be my first stop. Tim
  24. These look bitchin!!! Ross, you're the brake guru....will they work without too much fabbing? Tim
  25. Most factory installs are at the thermostat. I have to believe that the manufacturers put some thought into this All of the V8 racing engines I have seen, have the sender (mechanical) located at the thermostat...must be a good reason for this. Tim
