Anyone have the chopper wheel from an 82-83 ZXT distributor they're willing to part with? Maybe someone that did the Z31 ECU swap has one laying around... From what I've read, I can't use a Z31 or Maxima chopper wheel with the 280ZXT ECU. Thanks! -Hugh

The fine print on the Nissan Academy sticker says "Compete in GT5 for a chance to become a real pro race car driver. Details inside" Yeah, like that's ever going to happen, LOL!
-
That would be awesome. Especially if there weren't any other cars on the road like in the video.

I noticed that...automatic lights. In the last scene when they're driving away, the interior A-pillar didn't look right.

The music is better in this one, but the plot is wacked and there's one scene NWS http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PnSUw02aaSA

I like this music better than a G6 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hPhivsFOHo4

The bearings I bought new from Nissan. I took the diff housing and bearings into Paden drivetrain in Portland to get the side lash & preload set, bearings pressed, etc. I think it was around $80. I didn't opt to get all 5(?) bearings replaced. Just the ones that go on the carrier (not the ones in the nose). It seemed to work okay.

Ahhh! I'm a retard...no wonder you couldn't find it because it was a KAAZ (not Cusco) from a 240SX. Sorry about that I installed a KAAZ 1.5 way LSD in my S130. I made the writeup here: KAAZ CLSD install in a S130 Turbo done (Finally...)
-
No, but I've done it with a 1.5 way Cusco into my S130T. It's not that difficult, you just have to trim one of the axles. I posted it here somewhere, I'm surprised you didn't find it.

Finally saying goodbye to an old computer friend.

My first PC was a Commodore Vic-20 when I was ten years old. It had an enormous 5 KB of RAM. I think it may have been one of the first PC's that had color, and you could hook it up to the TV for the monitor. The mass storage device used a cassette tape. After recording the program written in Basic, you had to cue the cassette and look at the rotary dials to know when to stop and press play, lol. Later, I had a Commodore CBM 8032. Just green monochrome display that could only display ASCII character text. Twin 5.25" disk drives in a case bigger than the computer! I felt like I was Matthew Broderic...the kid in the War games movie (without the handset modem) -
Happy birthday to you...and many moooooore!

You can see the TPS with the weatherpack connector on the lower right.
-
Can't you use one or the other connector? I cut off the pigtail connector, and wired in a weatherpack connector.

Well, I'd say the Holley carb makes the cool factor increase That's a unique induction plenum! It looks custom, or at least customized.

Hi LanceVance, Another option to either new linkage pieces from Nissan or Redline is to go with a throttle cable. You can then shave off the linkage towers from the intake manifold. I've never done it myself, but it doesn't seem that difficult to do, and I've seen quite a few discussions on it on this forum.

<<...does anyone know where to get these plastic ball/socket joints new?>> You can still get them from Nissan. You don't really need a new one unless they're bent, worn-out or cracked. Is it because it's loose where it connects the the spherical ball on the throttle body? When I changed to a Weber, I had to replace the Weber's 2.5mm ball to a 3.5mm. You can get them from Redlineracing. For the TPS, I'm pretty sure that for the 280ZXT's they are a throttle position switch (2-wire) and the 240SX ones are a throttle position sensor (3 wire). The 240SX probably won't work, use a multimeter on the resistance (ohm) setting to compare the two.

Did it run fine between shifts before you added the manual boost controller (MBC)? If it didn't I'd do one thing at a time and just make the vac / boost gage work first. When you saw it spike to 10+ psi between shifts, did you hear a big woosh with the safety pop valve releasing the boost pressure? If so, that might be why it almost died, since all that metered air was lost to the atmosphere, and the computer couldn't tell (since it uses an airflow meter instead of a MAP sensor) and went way rich. The stock system already has a blowoff valve / recirculation valve device, but it's a bypass valve that goes from the j-pipe to the 5th runner in the intake manifold. Between shifts, the throttle plate closes, and the charged air isn't able to bypass the closed plate, and will cause a "water hammer" shockwave smashing back to the turbo wheel. The factory device will keep this from happening, but the RPM's will stay high when you shift and go closed throttle. If you can, instead of using a zip-tie for the boost controller hookup, use the compression fitting that came with the kit. If it didn't have one, you can get one from Baxter's Auto in Tigard, maybe even at A-Boy. It will screw into the manifold since it should be a 1/8" NPT fitting. It doesn't really matter if the wastgate actuator rod is rusty, as long as it doesn't bend or disintegrate, you're fine. They are somewhat hard to move by hand. You can disconnect the rod end to the wastegate puck arm to see if the wastgate can open and close freely. Like S130 said, make sure you don't have any vacuum leaks. Look for cracked hoses that would cause high idle and general badness.

I have an S130 IC setup using a 24x12x3 core "straight" endtanks and 2.25" piping. I ran the IC pipes through the stock airbox holes and through the headlight buckets. You can see the details in my build thread. This is a really old photo, my engine bay looks quite a bit different now, but this shows the routing.

That thingy you're talking about is the igniter that is part of the coil bracket mount? I' not as familiar with the '81 ZXT's. I don't think those loose wires under the steering column are the cause of no spark. It's possible that the igniter isn't hooked up to the coil correctly. If the ECU is firing the injectors it's likely that something weird is going on with the igniter. I believe you can check if spark is possible by disconnecting the ground on the negative side of the coil while it's powered up with key ON, but I'm not 100% sure on that. Good luck! -
It's the former (COx). I found a link to all the gory details pdf here It even has locations and hours. Cornelius Pass (Hillsboro) is the closet to Beaverton. There are even online cameras so you know how crowded it is before you even leave: As I mentioned, my friend is a mechanic that lives and works in Beaverton...you might have seen him drifting around in one of his three '83 ZX's ;^)
-
I go to the one in Sherwood. Now we only have to pass HC's and either COx or NOx, I can't remember which. They sometimes do a visual inspection of the cat using a mirror on a stick. The sniff the exhaust at idle and @ ~2500 RPM's. Mongo is right, it doesn't hurt to try it and it doesn't cost anything no matter how many times you try until you pass. My buddie Bryan works at a shop with a gas analyzer. Hopefully at worst you'll need a new cat. A universal one is $50-60. You can also try to lean it out by adjusting the airflow meter to bring down the HC's but I beleive it may bring up the other readings since you're burning fuel more than once or just hotter, something like that so it's kind of a balancing act... Good luck!
-
I want to ZG flare it (I've had flares from a prevous '70 Z project that never made it anywhere. I want to use the group-buy Rota RB-R's (after seeing Mongo's badass Z over at BRAAP's house) since they are relatively inexpensive...if money was no object, I'd get Watanabes, Sakuras, CCW's etc. It would be a crying shame to cut into the perfect rear arches though, but I might have to do it I also have an early '82 L28ET that I scored from RTz years and years ago...that will be the second mod after getting rid of the steelies with the 5-lug chrome-plastic-tastic 5-lug hub caps!
-
Haha! That's the Z I scored from my old high school buddy Kevin He said it got ~50 responses and he saw I was one of them. Yes, I'm totally lucky. It's an "old ladys" car with practially ZERO rust and nearly perfect framerails, etc. It used to belong to Mrs. Walberg...she tried selling it for 3500, but no one had the funds for the last year or two. As soon as E*Trade transfers my funds to my bank acct, it's mine. I have a down payment on it already, and I'm just dying to get it! If anyone has a Facebook, I started an photo album on it: My link My link My link

How about who has the most beer bottles in their Z for returning? For those of us that don't have a drinking problem, but a recycling problem I think I set a new personal record. 356 containers (almost 30 short-cases) @ $0.05 comes to $17.80
