  1. Thanks, very useful info thats helping the decision making process Wonder if a BW world class gearbox could be adapted to the VQ engine? Great site of yours there Jason, glad to see someone interested in suspension.
  2. Looking at this Pathfinder engine as an alternative to a VG30ET, hard to find a low mileage one of those. VG33E bore 91.5mm x stroke 83mm, 8.9:1 compression ratio. So I'm thinking with that CR it could handle a turbo and being way oversquare should rev well. Or is the CR a bit too high for say 15psi boost? Some info on the VG33E here http://www.engr.colostate.edu/~radare/wserieschanges.html Looking for a minimum of 400rwhp @ 6500rpm, MoTec ECU, IC, single BB turbo and so on, for circuit racing use. Alternatively the VQ30DET is readily available, problem with those is they are all auto trans, no manuals and no solid info around as to how practical it is to fit a gearbox to one.
  3. Excellent info, thanks very much for that.
  4. My fronts are the aluminium Z32 type on ~295x28mm rotors which do work quite well. However there does appear to be some flex in the system because the brake pedal is not as hard as some. I guess that it would be fairly easy to test the the Z32 type for flex using a dial gauge on the body while working the brakes with the car stationary. However for the next project I will probably go with the PBR slider type, the Corvette C5's apparently are excellent although for them the ~32mm thick rotor should be 325-340mm diameter. The big thing with the slider type is less outside bulk, better wheel clearance. Overall for anything other than a hi-spec dedicated race car, IMHO the PBR's are the best practical choice.
  5. Don't know about the US but here suspension shops sell generic type bump stops, I assume you are talking about the ones that slip over the strut insert shaft. Alternatively, something like a rubber shock absorber eye bush could be used, not much give though.
  6. S13's are set up differently. The outer hub is splined onto the stub axle ie the hub and stub axle are separate items. The inner part of the stub axle forms part of the half shaft outer CV joint.
  7. 1 1/8" = ~28mm The front suspension would hardly be independant at all with that great lump tieing both sides together. Around 22mm should be about it for the front, the rear bar is a bit heavy too. Although you Murricans do seem to use heavier bars I've noticed
  8. Tyres and their tread flex. The more flexible the tread the easier it is to turn the wheel, particularly when stationary.
  9. Those Jongbloed wheels, sigh, love at first sight
  10. Oooops, ZX's on the brain lately looks the goods anyway.
  11. There used to be an importer advertising KAAZ LSD'a here at a good price, http://www.nissansilvia.com/forums/index.php?showforum=29 Also I think Stewart Wilkins, a Nissan competition specialist in NSW, sells one of them. From what I've heard KAAZ is the ducks guts
  12. Thanks all, wonder what John's experience is It looks like I'll have to get a RHD one from Japan seeing Nissan never imported then into Oz. Definately will be a solid top, preferably without the weight adding comfort junk.
  13. Went for a ride in a ZX two seat coupe and was impressed with the apparent strength of the body, compared with the s30. Even though the suspension needed some work, the body seemed tight and didn't react over bumps. Is that a realistic view? I'd also be interested in thoughts and experiences concerning any weak points in the coupe body and how they may be strengthened. For example, do they crack anywhere? I'd be looking at installing a half cage well tied into the body. That works well with the s30.
  14. Love the front end, terrific, it takes away that dated square look which is perhaps the one poor feature of a stock ZX.
  15. The FJ20 engine tilts to the left so its gearbox case is configured to suit that tilt. Internally they are much the same as say a 280ZX box. I'd guess that the internals would transfer to say a 280ZX case.
  16. No linky sorry Rather than machine out hubs it may be possible to get different size from stock bearings that will fit.
  17. This forum is the best s30 hybridz forum around, lots of people doing all sorts of interesting things with their s30's, much thanks to the host and mods, take a bow please But, sorry there is always a 'but', where is a forum that similarly concentrates on the 280ZX? The US and UK got the HS130 coupe, we of Ozonia only got the 2+2 maybe as payback for always getting the five speed gearbox Have tried Zdriver but not much happening there except V8's. So, is a ZX segment viable here, or where should I go. Politely please
  18. Recall a Japanese site showing step by step how to fit Z31 5 stud stubs to S30 hubs. A while ago though, seemed fairly straight forward at the time, some machining
  19. My experience is a bit different, I like the dish and size of the stock '77 wheel. Built the rim up a bit though to make it thicker, covered with a laced leather cover. Removed the door armrest due to elbow contact, replaced it with a pull strap.
  20. Hmmm, I'm looking at another project soon. Lets put it this way, the engineers attention will only be drawn to items which are obviously non standard. Unless the engineer is a Zed expert, very unlikely, he won't know what is stock and what is not unless it is obvious. Or unless I tell him
  21. Be interesting to know what the problem with the trailer hub material was. I'm fairly sure that at least one targa Zed uses them
