  5. Well, in short the holset is popular choice because although The T3/T4 is a good turbo for the same price or lower you can get a HY35w or HX35 and gain more power. The holset also uses the t3 flange, but requires a custom downpipe to be made for the large 3" outlet. The Holset's don't really start breathing till after 15psi and can go up to 30+. They can be sourced on ebay rather easily and for a low price compared to a brand new T3/T4. The newer holsets flow better, but avoid a VGT if you don't want the hassle of learning how to set it up on the L series engine correctly.   7. The Title should say XS Power wastegate sorry. I know there are mixed reviews about these BOVs, but I wasn't sure if it was just the type RS e-bay models and not the wastegates. Does anyone have this wastegate? Is it any good?   9. I could go on for days and actually keep it coming its making me wanna complete it all just to come back up here post it. I am so serious motivation and determination is the key. Not to mention gain a degree in computer engineering A+ certification essential and 202, experience as a part time technician while in college and more money in my pocket.

  11. I'm done cause no matter what I say I'm still a youngster So I am just gonna drop the subject. I am not your average lead foot teenager ( but you wouldn't know that since you don't know me) and I guess I can't have goals either. I have been working since I was 15. 35-43hrs a week while in high school still maintaining a 4.0 gpa. My Z sat in the garage for 2 years before I even drove it. I had got in a really bad accident with my first corolla identical to my current one and almost died. The 18 wheeler stopped in time. So that pushed back my plans and I had to spend another 5k on another corolla for a form of transportation for to and from school and work. I worked the whole summer and walked to work EVERYDAY. I didn't have your go to the theme park and movies and beach summer it sucked. Point is I have gained patience from that and I never put a date down of when I will get this 450whp its just A GOAL. I might achieve this 5 yrs heck maybe 10yrs who knows cause college comes first. I learned how to drive my Z in 4hrs the day I got the carbs tuned. The turbo motor was a project between me and my father so we could spend time together because he wasn't their since I was 7. Anyway I think I'm gonna shut up now its really not worth it.

I have 2 other forms of transportation a 97 corolla with 20,000 miles excellent gas mileage and a 99 malibu so I have already thought of that the Z is a project and project only you must not have read my thread and just looked at the pictures. Secondly, I am upgrading the brakes to improve performance. I picked 450whp because I want to run 11sec on the 1/4.As I recall I JUST posted that I'm slowing things down on my Z because of college. I am upgrading the rear to discs and front to big brakes. The front has the most stopping power. READ.

  14. Here's my 260z it was converted to SU's years ago. I suggest you check over at classiczcars.com they have more advice with carbs over there search over there I'm sure you will find 99% of your answers.
  15. Holset HY35w in my opinion is the best bang for the buck. You can get 300 from the stock turbo but it will max it out.
  16. I'm not knocking drums I have drums on my corolla and malibu. All I'm saying is I had a bad experience with the issue of correcting the problem. Yes I know the e-brake is the suspect which is why I mentioned it, is that alot to ask for? If I insulted anyone in anyway then I'm sorry. If drums were the only choice there wouldnt be an option for 240sx or toyota 4x4 "upgrades" its the owners discretion which is hybridz.org mission. I really dont wanna bother with the subject anymore because there is a ton of questions I could ask you too.
  17. Discs: -More aftermarket performance selection -Rotors -Personal preference. -Not a PITA to remove when locked. Drums: -Small performance aftermarket. -PITA to service. I dont understand what the big deal is If I'd rather not deal with drums anymore then thats my problem. I could as you why you have exhaust on the sides and not the back? Second question how is that neglect becuase The mechanic put the parking brake on or because I put it on for 5 mins brakes are NOT suppose to lock up like that period. defective drums bottom line. Donor 280zx in the yard with discs easy fix.
  18. No, by locking up I mean I was just sitting at the stop light normal traffic no heavy braking and the driver side locked up completely. The passenger side was smoking I thought I blew the clutch. Turns out the parking brake or emergency brake was coming on by itself. It took me nearly a week to get the driver side drum off this time around. From that point on I said I'm done with drums period. I guess I should be a little more clearer Last year I put the emergency brake on for 5 mins I forgot for what reason next day the car won't budge the driver side rear tire is locked. This year when i pick up my Z from tidewater Z the mechanic had the parking brake on when I picked it up it was sticking a little right then, but I ignored it. On my way home the next day I came to a complete stop and it locked up completely on the drivers side and passengers wheel cylinder went bad.
  19. I went to several Junkyards looking for a Maxima and found an 82 but the brackets were welded on. So my option at the time was nissan for $100 per bracket (outrageous) or a set I spotted on ebay. There was also this company I found on here for $165 a set but the opening price for the auction was $5. So I watched it and I was willing to pay $165 for them since they were already cut to go around the stub axel. The guy was gonna junk the car so he got them for $10!!!! I was so pissed. Today I just got the ebay brackets and the seller sent me a hotwheel still in the package that was a 240z so that put a smile on my face. Haha. What a week. If the seller is a member on here, THANKS!
  20. Well theres been a slow down in the build up for two reasons: 1. I'm going to college and I need to start saving up for 2nd semester. 2. I want to take it nice and slow and go for 450whp. The reason for number 2 is during the last week of high school i finally brought my Z to school after getting the carbs tuned. I decided to do that so I could prove that I actually do have the Z once and for all; 1 problem though I didn't have enough time to drop in the turbo motor. But I'd rather show something. Well, I got the carbs tuned and man this car was really at 100% now I mean she could move. I always thought the motor had been built, but not like what I was told from the guy at tidewater Z. Heres what the L26 really has: -Custom Cam -Built head -Competition headers -Twice pipe exhaust Its on SUs but from what I was told the way its set up it is suppose to or had triple webers on at one point. Anyway, I brought the Z to school to show to my rival and his "crew" I parked her in the profile position (at an angle) at the back of the parking lot. And everyone was all over it like woah whats that? "its so sexy" " I love the gas smell." I just said really it doesn't have the maxwell house can muffler or crazy paint job and you guys like it lol. Well, then my rival shows up in his WRX with a new turbo cat back exhaust and other mods. He parked beside me And told me to "start it up." That was a mistake to my surprise the Z was alot louder than his AWD boxer engine and he said his car sounded like a V8. Not even, I had this huge grin on my face after seeing the look on his face. He didn't even wanna race anymore. Kinda sucks cause I spent all that money on the turbo motor and I probably didn't even need it guess I'll never know. Although, I didn't get to drive the car everyday that day alone was good enough for me. But on the way home the brakes locked up on me AGAIN which caused me to want to convert over to discs.

  23. Hmm do you have much experience servicing L series engines? If not unless you wanna pay the price I'd grab some books and start searching the forums. Yes its hard work but the savings are endless. Set of stock injectors used of ebay $50 gasket set $150 at the most depending on the material. But if thats not your profession or interests He does good work so although $1,500 is a lot its your only option.
