  1. yeah I think (or at least hope) he is talking about the TB48DE engine in the latest partol. 4.8L 24v I6.
  2. I think that would be awesome to see one in a Z. Ive seen vids on youtube of turbo'd patrols pulling wheelies for 1000's of feet on sand and Ive also seen vids of a patrol DESTROYING a crotch rocket on a freeway roll on. absolutely insane. imagine taking that engine and putting it in a chassis that weighs almost 2000lbs less.
  3. goldfish>>>>> what sort of power levels are you looking for? or are you just looking to be "different"? Ive got quite a few parts for L28ETs and I know how to do megasquirt. I also have some experience in porting L series heads..... and I know a guy that makes custom intake manifolds, for $500, maybe a bit more, not much tho.
  4. I never said the stock datsun trans wouldnt break, I just said you can make it a complete bolt in tho. although, as long as you arent drag racing it day in and day out with slicks, a datsun trans in good condition should be fine until you start hitting up on around 450 to 500hp. plus, for comparable HP levels, the RB will put out less torque than a similar HP level L28ET. and torque is what kills things. If you plan on going all out, getting custom mounts, driveshaft, and all that stuff, go with whatever motorset is the cheapest.
  5. S130s and S30s use the same mounts. mounts for one will work in the other. Go RB25. aside from keeping it nissan, it will also keep it bolt in. hell, If you get an RB25DET engine, and an RB20DET 5spd trans, take the front half of the bellhousing off and you can bolt it to a standard datsun 5spd. its like the reverse of a 240SX trans swap. then all you need is the engine mounts and oil pan. trans mount would be stock as the driveshaft would be too.
  6. I want the wheels off of the 2+2. thats the only good find on that car.
  7. save yourself a headache and just megasquirt yor car.
  8. yeah, i havea stim, but the board is set up for VR input, so its a pain to get the stim to give it ignition input. Im going to reflash it to 029q code, as that is what I have running on MY car. hopefully that will take care of it.
  9. Im helping out a freind trying to megasquirt a 2jzgte int a MKIII shell and he wants it to run the stock 2jz coils in a wasted spark configuration. tried it with VB921s, no dice. He is using the stock 2jz 12-1 wheel for a crank signal and everything else appears to be working fine except for the ignition. Dont wanna go full sequential because we done want to mess arounnd with the second cam signal and alll associated mumbo jumbo. SO, what we have is a 12-1 wheel, some 2jz coils (2 terminal, positive and negative, just like a regular coil) and an MS1 box with a pcb3.0 and I think he is running 029y4 code. after I couldnt get something workable going with the 3 vb921s he already had in the box, I wired it up with a 5v pullup with a 1k resistor running spark off each of the LEDs and I ran the signal into the VG30E ignitors that Ive been using on MY car for the past year and a half without any trouble. It worked fine for a few revolutions, the started to crap out. and the LEDs stay on constant now. Im starting to suspect the board at this point, or perhaps a processor. anyway, since Im running 2 ignitors off of each LED, should I use a lower or a higher resistance pull up resistor? does it matter? Its set to NON inverted ignition with dwell control set at 5ms while cranking and 3ms running with .1ms minimum discharge time. sorry for the novel, just wanted to make sure I had all my bases covered. As always, any help is GREATLY appreciated.
  10. yes. I have a 1968 1600 in my garage and will aquire a 1967 1600 in the spring. i was leaning towards the nissan YD25DDTi engine tho. the VW would be col as Im sure parts are available at any auto parts stores!
  11. depends on if the engine is internally or externally balanced.
  12. eh, not to start an arguement, but with a little fab work, you can make the 280ZX rear suspesions toe and camber adjustable. control arm modification. this is for the 300zx, but the principle is the same. Im using M30 rear control arms, cv axels and diff with my stock 280ZX crossmember. the M30 arms will be modified for toe and camber adjustibility and they use big brakes like the 87+ 300zx.
  13. eh, Ive seen worse. Hell, Ive bought worse and driven it. doesnt look TOOOO bad. If it was closer and I had the space, Id throw down on it.
  14. any idea where/how they measure that? is it wheel mounting surface to wheel mounting surface? or middle of tire to middle of tire? thanks for the link tho! that will help a lot!
  15. Ive searched everywhere and I cant find the track width. I tried here, google and Zcar.com. anyone know the track width off hand? I tried searching for both 280ZX and S130.
  16. Im not using the complete suspension, just the front hubs and front and rear coilovers. keeping the trailing arms for the time being. But I have a set of S14 Apex'i N1 pro coilovers. as far as coilovers, there is only very minor differences between the S13 and S14. And those differences are in the height of the rear coilover unit. S14 is a bit taller, which sucks because the S13 and 280ZX are the same height. But, I got a smoking deal on a quality coilover set and it wont take that much to mod it to work. I guess this half answers your question? lol
  17. something similar to that, but Ill need 6 of them. its my frankenstein head of a KA head sectioned and joined to be put on an L series block, like 1 fast Zs. I think the KA has 96mm bore centers, so one would think that the runners should be 96mm apart. It'll also be turbo. I have an excellent fabricator and welder of all things metal (stainless, aluminum, sheet, pie sections) that owes me a few favors, so Ill show him your page and see what he thinks! Im still researching options right now as this head/motor wont be done until early spring, some 3 months from now.
  18. Ill be using them on a KA manifold cut off with about 3" of runner left on it. then a base plate will be made and welded onto it and the throttle bodies will be installed. On the KA, the injector bungs are right next to the head and each KA runner has its own little vacuum port connected to a vacuum manifold right on the underside of the runner about an inch from the head.
  19. just wondering how much a set of 6 TBs would run, dont need injector bungs, or vacuum fittings, just throttle plates, shafts and bodies. just wondering if it would be cheaper without all the extra machining for that crap.
  20. I couldnt see the pics yesterday when you first posted them, but I could today. very nice work! I was a bitr skeptical at first, putting a 4 cylinder in a Z(X), but it is 2.4L and they do make some decent HP. Im contemplating shoving my engine a little further back and down, since I would have to make custom mounts (and oil pan!) anyways to correct the lean. oh, and the reason the KAs detonate is because people turbo them and they have like 9.5 or 10:1 compression. not very turbo freindly in stock form, but a lot of people do make about 300rwhp on stock block KAs without popping them.
  21. WOW!!! thats a LOT of extra room in that engine bay, roninjiro!! how far to the drivers side is the KA tilted? I know the L series tilts about 15 degrees to the passengers side, and this will make it a pain in the ass to fit the intake manifold on a KA headed L series. this is nice to see this many heavily modified 280ZX's. I think in the next few years the ZXs will really come into their own.
  22. HA! all my mods look like every other stock part, cept the trans is a little different and the megasquirt looks like a rats nest. If you dont mind me asking, 260DET, how did you put S14 front spindles on your 280ZX? custom lower control arm? the angle of the ball joing on the S130 and the angle for the ball joint on the S13/14 makes it very difficult to bolt on.
  23. yeah, I forgot to mention my current mods. MS&S_E running fuel and spark Maxima N47 head on flat top F54 block, slight port & polish, 260Z cam 1980 non EGR manifold port matched 60MM TB custom 2.5" cat back mandrel bent exhaust '87 clsd in a 90 M30 pumpkin with 3.9 gears 240sx 5spd trans 130mph speedo (not really a mod, but looks cool!) as far as coilovers, the rears for a 240SX are bolt on as long as you re-drill the top mount for 3 bolts instead of 2. Fronts will be tricky. basically, what I will be doing is modifying a 280ZX lower control arm to put 240SX spindles on it, then I can use the SX front coilovers as well. Problem is, they are 4" shorter than ZX units, so Ill have to make a 4" extender for it up top. then I can also retain the camber plates. With the 240SX front hubs, I can use 300ZXTT rotors redrilled for 4 lug and 300ZXTT 4 piston aluminum calipers. For the rear suspension, I will be removing the rear crossmember and slotting the trailing arm bolts to allow for toe and camber adjustment. then I will be using infiniti M30 rear arms and CV axels. The M30 rear arms because they already have the bigger bolt holes to use 300ZX eccentrics. The infiniti also has much larger rear brakes. fabrication and slight modification of other nissan parts. Ive learned all of this knowledge from a few years of kicking around u pull it type of junk yards and just looking and measuring ♥♥♥♥. plus, Ive owned 240SXs, 200SX's and a lot of other nissan cars that share similar parts and set-ups. How do you think I had the epiphany about the KA heads an L-seris block?
  24. you know I take my 280ZX seriously. its getting my frankenstein motor transplant and some real coilovers. Infact, my head is at the machine shop and should be done by the end of the month. Also, my car is a 2+2 to boot. I like my ZX more than my S30 cars, for some strange reasons. Ive never used a ZX as a drivetrain donor except for one that was extremely rusty. we are talking holes in the floors big enough to shove cats through and frame rails so rotten they crumple when you put a concrete block underneath them to hold the car in the air.
  25. Ive had a few. first one was a 79 2+2 I bought for $150. next was an 83 2+2, was nice when I got it, not so much now. got a 1981 coupe for $200, sold that to a family member. picked up a VERY badly rusted 81zxt with no title for $75. got a 1983 280ZXT 5spd for $500 with a clogged fuel pump and got my baby, a 1980 2+2 rust free from cali with a blown engine. Its getting an L31 with a frankenstein head and S13 coilovers with a custom interior over teh winter and it will make its debut at MSA this year. Ive had just as many or possibly more S30 cars as well.
