  1. You could always buy it and part it out. And sell me the turbos cheap, I want to put them on my L28... ~Alex
  2. It uses a MAP sensor (manifold absolute pressure) that measures exactly the vaccume or boost in the intake. The map sensor that ships with the MS (unless you order another) is set to up to 21PSI of boost. ~Alex
  3. engineswaptech.com has alot of VQ swapping info. The owner of the site is the first known person to swap a VQ35 into an s14. Lots off good stuff about rwd vs fwd VQ's. The price will be high (most of the time) on engines that came out of the Z33 and G35 because they were out of expensive cars. Any way its very possible. I was considering it as Id love to see what a Z31 could do with a lighter engine. I might have a diff-less S13 subframe forsale soon if your interested PM me ~Alex
  4. http://www.engineswaptech.com/forums/thread/797.aspx KA=VQ's weight. Where did you get your info from? We need more people like allen. lol. ~Alex
  5. Of course people have but most car guys were like "Naw thats too much work and $$ fabbing" or just thats impossible aka poeple being lazy and just not innovating. Thats pretty sweet, Ive always wondered how hard it would ACTUALLY be to convert it to AWD. ~Alex
  6. Tried him already he hasnt responded to email and looked all over ohio. I need to start checking other states. My friend has a 280zx he wants to get rid of but he cant get the title straigented out but I think I can get around that. ~Alex
  7. Thats why I like 6cyl's. Example. Stock 240sx engine, the KA24E or DE. Weighs about 300lbs. its an iron block 4cyl and makes decent power when turbo'd. Stock 95+maxima and various nissans VQ30DE. 3L v6,300lbs, revs to 7200-7500 reliably (with a modified ecu) and makes plenty of power NA or turbo. Even with 10:1 cr lots of people are pushing 400WHP on stock blocks and sometimes stock cams. No VTC or anything, just a varible intake manifold. (its alu block/heads) They weigh the same and the VQ sits further back, revs better, is just as cheap, and has more potental.(PS the 3.5L version VQ35DE also weighs the same and has a ♥♥♥♥ load of support from the 350Z's and G35 market) Now nissan does have I6's and V6's that weigh 500-600lb's (RB,VG,L) but were talking about advantages. ~Alex
  8. Darn you! I have a full turbo swap in my garage and no chassis to put it in...I cant wait to get my Z car and boost it! Some body find me a shell or cheap car near columbus, ohio!!! Any way congrads on the turbo swap and getting done. ~Alex
  9. 4wd doesnt affect top speed. Lots of porshes and lambos are in the 200mph club. And street tires are possible. Not very safe but if your going to try to go that fast buy quality tires. Its possible you just need to work on the aerodynamics as from what Ive read S30's front end lifts up at high speeds (120+). Id also work on brakes as well. You definitly want good ones going that fast. ~Alex
  10. Mtcookson- I thought the VG30E had a forged crank? I thought some one on maxima.org proved it, and the rods were stronger on the DETT. ~Alex
  11. Not true, the VG30E-T can make as much power as a DETT. The DETT just has more power from the factory. The biggest diffrence is the DETT heads are a little better ported from the factory, its got two small turbos and bigger injectors. All that stuff that you would have to fabricate or upgrade any way and start all over. Both engines are capable of well over 500HP, the engine you have now will get you there much quicker. Just take your time do it right and clean up the engine (maybe paint it ) and car and you'll have a kick ass car with lots of HP. ~Alex
  12. Oh its true for alot of cars I thought I read the z31 was that way as well.... ~Alex
  13. You dont need to do it all at once, and either VG engine would need similar treatment. Id go with a 5speed swap,3in exaust, chip, injectors in about that order. Its pretty easy and cheap to chip the Z31 ecu so you can tune it and tuning is very important. An auto turbo is smaller then a manual car's turbo so Id swap out for that one if you can find one. Doing the DETT swap would be way over $1500. Chasing the loose ends around will add up quick, along with a new driveshaft (possibly Im not sure) and exuast fabing, and new engine mounts. Id figure on at least 2500-3000 since you cant do that your self (unless your already a good welder) But get started on the 5speed swap and the 5 speed turbo and go from there, start checking out Z31 websites and see the setups you like. ~Alex
  14. Man that sucks! Oh well its not a thrown rod or anything. Do you think its just timing related? or just too much power? ~Alex
  15. The VG-E is a great platform just like the TT. Really just get some forged pistons and rods and get cams and port the VG-E heads. A bigger turbo and better exaust and chip the stock ecu and your set. Theres no need to get custom with the DETT setup, put that time and money twords freshing up the VG-E with upgraded parts. Alot of guys on maxima.org are running 250-350WHP on stock internals no problem. One guy has been running 300+WHP for a year or more on a stock block, with a bent rod. Id say run the stock engine untill it blows, and in the mean time get a cheap block in the junkyard and slowly build it up and swap it in when the other engine blows. The biggest thing is tuning and not running out of fuel. Keeping the VG-E lets you use that $1500-3000 on supporting mods you'd need either way and this way you already have a leg up on a stock DETT conversion. Bottom line is its a VG. Its though as nails and its strong egnough for you. Just mod what you have. ~Alex
  16. Was it just me or did the ferrari driver have a bad launch? But man he got whooped! Any one want to bet hes wondering about turboing? ~Alex
  17. A 3 rotor sounds better then a 4 rotor. A 4 rotor just sounds like a 2 rotor at 2x the rpm, as thats what the layshaft makes it fire like. My friend built a 3 rotor NA that made 360RWHP from 4K to 8.5K rpm the TQ was flat. He'd rev higher but the engine gets unbalanced after 8.5K, and the HP is still going up. Hes going to put an extra bearing and holder in and rev to at least 9K from the last time we talked. He also has small pherhipal ports that arent activated yet, and that actually hurts HP because exaust gets mixed in with intake. So he should be near 400WHP on a mustang dyno when he gets it rebuilt and after he gets the extra ports working. Also thats after a freese plug blew up and ran coolant in oil for 40 miles or so. He said the brand new bearings looked like they had 275K miles, and thats when it made 360WHP. He made his own equal length header and used 3.5in piping header back and 3 borla mufflers. At WOT you coudnt even think if you were in the car. I hear it from 3/8 of a mile away, when he was going WOT around some on/off ramps and it sounded like it was on the street 300 feet from me. Its insane. A 4 rotor would be cool but 3 rotors can do the job just as easily... And the one mazda uses probably has mostly aluminum parts that lighten it considerably. But other wise even a 13B is heavy as crap. ~Alex Edit- This was in an FD BTW not a Z or anything. He was also the first to use the stock subframe if that clues in the guys that are rotary fans into who it is
  18. The best F/I heads are the P79 and P90's and then from there you get some 8/8.5/9-1 forged pistons. 7.4:1 kills off boost response and unless your going to run 30+ psi its needless. But ask BRAAAP about heads, he knows all about that and engine setup. Also look into over boring you engine to get some extra displacement. Personally Ill be going with 8.5:1 pistons and some mild port work to my head when I do get around to building my engine next summer. That'll give good off boost driving and not need race gas for mild boost. Ill be looking for ~350WHP. Best thing to do is just look at a bunch of diffrent setups and see what you like. People may be using the vortec FMU as it is a decent one but once you get over the stock turbo its best to get a Z31 turbo ecu setup (which isnt hard to setup) or a megasquirt, neither of which need a FMU. Even with the stock turbo tho its a great idea to get a new ecu setup... ~Alex

    280 Zfire

Naw a nice VQ30DE/T wouldnt weigh too much and still make alot of power. If a 3300lb maxima can use one and get 13.5 in the 1/4 with only bolt ons and tuning, that'd be really fun in a 2000lb car. ~Alex
  20. Ive read that a few times, now Im onto the diff now but Im not even sure if I can still get the S30, I may be back to picking up an S130. I have to iron out the car first then Ill get back to the specifics of the install... ~Alex
  21. Come on I looked for hours and I couldnt find much. Anybody? But all I need to know is with an S30 do I need to use the BW T5's drive shaft with the r180 or do I need to swap in my r200? Im pretty sure the 4 speed driveshaft splines are diffrent then the BW's but Im not sure. I'll probably just swap the whole subframe if that possible. other then that all thats left is exaust, but I think Im going to have my friend help me make a custom piece, unless theres a cheap piece online. ~Alex
  22. http://www.geocities.com/zgarage2001/z.html Thats got alot of great basic info, I just read it all again last night. Ive been looking at L28ET stuff and it looks like the stock engine is good to about 300WHP no problem at all, and Garret us running 460WHP on the stock restrictive cam, with a built block. Ive also seen 275WHP and 320WTQ on the stock turbo with a front mount IC and 3in exaust and a FPR (again garrets car) so its got some potential stock. 8-8.5 CR seems to be a good turbo and off boost setup. Just make sure its intercooled when you go much above stock boost. ~Alex
  23. Soon it looks like Ill be getting a 240z and I wanted to research the swap, mainly what I need for the carb to efi swap like gas tank mods and such. Ive got: -A full l28et accesories and all, mounted to the orginal subframe with the front brakes and shocks on it -a BW T5 -ZXT radiator -driveshaft -R200 diff, mounted on the ZXT subframe again complete with brakes -XZT dash uncracked with gauges -engine bay wiring harness with body/interior harness as well with ECU -misc extras including the turbo AFM and all the emissons junk. All for $500 from a friend with 105K miles. It even has the AC! (thats FS) I searched and came up with a few threads but they didnt get into the details, nor did I go over every stickie. Im writing this as I go to bed or Id go through all the stickies...So just link me to some good threads and Ill read away! As for the car, it runs and drives and is the guys DD! So Ill drive it as is for a little while and then swap it out for the turbo stuff. And a running l24 and tranny will be FS soon as well... ~Alex
  24. It has 2 banks, the three front and three back are the diffrent banks. Couldnt help you on the wires tho. ~Alex
  25. You can grab it from the 89-94 240's for sure, and possibly the 95-98's. If you could get it from the latter cars then every 240sx will have them. ~Alex
