  1. Im fairly sure the 3.3L rods will work no problem on the 3L crank, I believe those are the same size. Pretty much you just need the bigger bore, pistons and rings to get the bigger displacement.. LOL after all that posting I forgot the cranks had the same stroke and were completely compatable. Ive got it all straightend out again. Im actually comtemplaiting a VE33DE which basicly a VG30DE packaged to fit the 92-94SE maximas, with the higher flowing heads and a varible intake manifold and VTC's. That would really give a great power band and lots of all around fun..... ~Alex
  2. vac leaks sound like a hissing noise. best thing to do is spray carb cleaner or similar and listen for a surge in the idle, then your near a leak. Id repalce as much vac hose as you can stand. Also might want to clean the TPS. Grab some sea foam from the local parts store, run 1/2 through the brake booster line, 1/4 in the oil 50-100miles before you change it next, and 1/4 in the gas tank, with an 1/8th of a tank of gas. that should clean it a bit and run it with as much throttle to clean those injectors and use additives.
  3. sweet GL with the rebuild then. Dont drop a dowle into the front cover lol. ~Alex
  4. best thing to do is get a 240sx throttle body and spacer/adaptor. I can fish one out of the local yard if you want. LMK im willing to help you ship it over there. Its a 60mm TB. Or a BMW 65mm off a I-6 or similar. might have one of those around. Theres alot of writeups, really you can use anything in the 60-70mm range you just have to mount it and hook it up. ~Alex
  5. If you can get a long egnough straight edge and check the warpage on the block and head. go diaganally corner to corner and use a feeler gauge in the middle. Im not sure of the spec but make sure it isnt too much or you'll need them decked. ~Alex
  6. any progress garret? Its a very interesting project! ~Alex
  7. I doubt it, they have a big diffrence in displacement. edit- they are pretty much the same parts/size.... Why the 3L crank? use the 3.3L short block. Check this thread out for some good VG info, my last few posts sum it all up and give a link to a VG34E. Good stuff. ~Alex
  8. Trust me the sohc can still rev, the bottom end is essentially the same, the vavle train just needs upgraded to reach higher rpms but a stock sohc can rev to 6500-7000 no problem. ~Alex
  9. Ive always wanted to do a rotary swap with a fully NA modded 13B. That would be sick. ~Alex
  10. we cant tell you what is pefect in your situation. You have to read all the facts and decide for your self. Take a measureing tape to the engine and get all the dimensions possible. Then measure your car. FYI, you have a Z31, the TT engine is out of the Z32. ~Alex
  11. eh nobody pay attention to him and he'll go away. As for the oil pump mod. As far as I read it was on one of the older engines that had a mecanical MOP, and he modified it to feed off a tank mounted in the corner of the firewall and fender. It also has to be above the pump so gravity feeds it. I believe he used a winshield washer resivor so he could use the low level warning. But I want to say it was yellowing so there was talk of a metal tank with the sensor grafted in.... The point was to run seperate tank so it wouldnt use crankcase oil and have the option of running the cleaner burning 2 stroke oil or cheap 4 stroke oil, what ever your prefrence is. Thats pretty much the extent of the mods, I dont remember the specifics but its a great option to running premix. I would probably remix as Ive seen some great results with that. My friend tore an engine that used premix and it looked like it didnt have much wear at all. Then again I cant argue the benifits of the MOP as I dont have any idea on how it works. Im a rotary fan Ive just never owned one, but I do want a 2ed gen soon... Randy- I agree with people not being used to it. Its just people expecting it to be exactly like a piston engine. ~Alex
  12. Id go with a 9:1 VG out of the junkyard, and build your current block. VG's can get great off boost MPG when not driving hard, but a carb'd SBC would be hard to get the same MPG. Plus with aboosted car you can run a high rear end ratio (numericly lower) to get great highway milage. Basicly the VG has tons of aftermarket and its just the off chance you cant find one locally lol. Again what is the problem with your current VG? if you can use the pistons you have now and the cyl walls arent scored you can just hone them and put new rings in, or just get new crank or yours remachined and use new bearings. If it has rod knock. Also make sure you fix the cause of the problem not just the symptom. Since your friend knows how to build a engine a rebuild wouldnt be that bad, and you wouldnt have to go through all the modded swapping in a much bigger engine would require. All you need is an upgraded turbo,IC and chip your current ECU. ~Alex
  13. Oh noes your running an oil less turbo??? where do you buy those? ~Alex
  14. typhoone, if the pistons are good on your turbo block you can also swap them over. ~Alex
  15. Also you can use any VG30E. A 2ed gen maxima block fits directly, and the 3rd gen needs 2 oil filer mount parts swapped, and that means any 2ed gen maxima, or the 89-91SE and all 89-94 GXE engines can be swapped in. What exactly is broken on your VG? also try maxima.org if you want a used one. I could pull a VG from the local picknpull and ship it to you but Im leaving for florida for 2 weeks or so. (it'd be $160 for the engine plus labor and shipping) The diffrence is the maxima 9:1 compression and the turbo engine is 7.8:1 or 8.3:1 depending on the year. Just turn the boost down a little or timing under boost. ~Alex
  16. You could always have a local fab shop weld on a new flange, not that big a deal. That header would be a sweet turbo setup though. Wait thats the twin turbo header my friend linked me to for his 7mgte. Do they make a LHD T/TT header for l28's? *EDIT* nevermind I see they use the same pic for all their manifolds. Man thats a nice design! ~Alex
  17. Yea its the smog laws that kill them. And most americans still think they arent as reliable. The 07 super low sulfer highway diesel fuel is actually really clean and now the only problem is getting it available everywhere. ~Alex
  18. Yea its a really nice car. But its not quite as drop in and drive as they make it out to be. Just do a really through search on turbo l28's and more displacement, and RB swaps. The l28ET is a drop in and drive swap as it came from the factory. But if you want ultimate power and DOHC then the RB is a great path too. ~Alex
  19. Are iron cross rims 14in or 15? I thought they were 15. ~Alex
  20. Go to a car parts store like napa, AZ or AA. Im pretty sure Ive read of some one getting injector clips at a NAPA. ~Alex
  21. Well what are you going to do with the car? drag, autox, HPDE? ~Alex
  22. You can also swap the VQ30 timing assembly from a 95+ maxima and use the maxima ECU or a stand alone. The VQ30 timing chain setup disables the VTC's so you can use any ECU. Or just leave them unpluged. Alex (PS this came about because maxima guys are swapping in 3.5's where their 3.0's were just by changing the timing chains and tuning the ECU it all bolts together same mounts and all)
  23. O RLY? for 0-$50 you can have a 100% locked diff, or 300-700 new/used for a V or C LSD? good option if you want it locked right now and save up for a good LSD. Like Im doing with my drift S13. ~Alex
  24. You can get them rebuilt? I thought it was just replace with a new or used piece. Def something to look into over the winter for my S130... ~Alex
