  1. For those interested... I found this post on our local CLst. ld28 crank from a diesel maxima http://sacramento.craigslist.org/pts/309594045.html He wants $400 or OBO and he'll ship!!! He also has a complete 280zx turbo for sale. Go get it before it's too late! Good Luck!
  2. Here you go... This is a very long thread of positive then negative experiences.. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=116087&highlight=Zfiberglass I was going to respond sarcastically regarding your reply, but since helping people is a better way, I am sending you one of VERY MANY threads I've found by simply searching for "ZFiberglass".
  3. Do the "search thing"! You'll find a lot of positive/negative posts about them!
  4. Thank you SpeedRacer (and 280Zone). This is a great link. I love HybridZ. What a bunch of helpful people!
  5. Great!!! Thanx for the help!!!! To everyone else, if you have any more ideas, please keep them coming!
  6. Hi folks... Once again, I am seeking you guru's advice. I am looking to buy a 1983 Trans Am advertised with a 400 ci engine. Now, I've researched that year and it only came with a 305 ci in the V8 versions! The seller is telling me that to his knowledge, the engine has been swapped in and that he's not really sure if it is truly a 400 ci (he did the same research as I). Is there something SPECIFIC I can check within the engine block, like casting number(s), or some protrusion or what not that will definitively would tell me its a 400ci (from a 350ci or 305ci)??? I am getting this at a great price with a 700r4 tranny so I need all the help you guys can give on this. This will go very well into my planned 240z V8 hybrid. Thanx in advance. I must also confess that I bypassed the "SEARCH FIRST" rule but instead opted for your kind assistance so please don't flame.
  7. It maybe time for the baseball bat fender roll if you're afraid of the rubs. Take a baseball bat and GENTLY.... I mean GENTLY, roll the inner fender lips using an old baseball bat that is leveraged against the tires. This might give you the clearance you'd need. Just a suggestion! Oh and... LOOKING GOOD, btw!!!
  8. Is that your "Wilson" shot (from the show, "TOOL TIME")!!! Anyway, I have the same shot of my 240Z as you do on your first picture. I'll be posting later. I have decided on a twin turbo carb'ed 383. I don't have my engine yet but I'm concentrating on spicing up the front and rear end suspensions first. Good luck and looks like your very well on your way.
  9. Yup... what 240hoke said ^^^ above ^^^ !!! The 245 is the widest part of the tire (the bulge). BF Goodrich has advertised that their 245/50/16 can fit on 7.0 - 9.0 inch wide rims. This may not apply with other tire manufacturers.
  10. Ozzie, Ozzie, Ozzie!!!! --- Oy, Oy, Oy!!!!! Very impressive. I am really gonna practice my welding now!!!
  11. Not a good idea if the amp will heat up! The amp needs air cooling and if you bump it up... it will cut out... like mine did when I put it in my storage area of an old Toyota MR-S.
  12. I was right, it was you (although the car looked beige in the newspaper pics)!! Anyway... nice car... and oh... I'm a Laker fan so good luck seeing Musselman of the Kings! !!!
  13. Dang... i love this site... that is exactly what I had in mind for my 240z that is a bare car right now (no engine). With the HF dollies, I can move the car in the middle of the garage when I work on it, then slide it back to the side when my wife demands for her own space!!! Right now, I have fliers from HF with furniture dollies for as little as $8.99!!! Yea, baby!
  14. Could these furniture dollies sub as car dollies? You know, they're the 4 caster dollies that go under each wheel? The real ones I think are made of metal. They cost about $150 dollars for the set of 4! Do you think 4 of these furniture dollies under each wheel can be used to move our project car around the garage with all that weight?
  15. Hey Mark... Change of subject... did your car get featured last month on the Stockton Record? If so...it's very nicely done. You're car is the beige car right? Also, I thought they were featuring the Sacramento Kings coache's car (you know, Musselman)!
  16. Awww you wimps (j/k)... Come to the Phillippines... you'll have earthquakes, hurricanes (no they don't twist the other way), floods, tsunamis and an occasional volcanic eruption! Gosh... guess I'm glad I'm in NorCal!!!
  17. Well... looks like the gremlin has disappeared. This is after I changed the air filter (and took off the restrictive ducts on both sides). I experimented both going to an coming from work. I park the car, let it sit for 5-10 minutes and restart... NO PROB. I really think my lack of diligent maintainance contributed to all the miles I travel each day. Found that a LOT of leaves were in the air filter surround and clearing them up may have solved my problem. I will be more attentive to all the things needing maintainance. Thanx y'all for the inputs (keep them coming, tho')...
  18. Don't forget the relative humidity or amount of water in the air! I always check, double check and triple check my density altitude when I fly out of Lake Tahoe!!! Not to mention carburetor icing in the SUMMER !!!
  19. Could it be a stuck Power Valve? I suggest you open up the carb and give it a go through. Don't know how old it is but the older the more you need to open it up and rebuild it.
  20. Thanx guys... I will give it a good tune-up this weekend and inspect and clean up everything I can including all those you've mentioned. Anybody else with ideas, please keep posting to this thread. I'm sure all of us as a whole would like know what the ultimate cause of this is. Thanx again!
  21. I commute about 50 miles to work each way. After driving my turbo 280zx home one day, I made a pit stop to our local supermart and stayed there for about 8-10 minutes. When I got back to my car and started it, it started but stumbled like it wouldn't idle correctly. It then died after about 5 seconds. I re-started the car and it stumbled again. This time, I gave it a little gas and it seems to worsen the stumbling and rough idling. I then put it in Reverse (it's an automatic) and it runs rough but I get it to go somewhat. I then put it in Drive and step on the gas and suddenly... it's idling and running okay! I drive home and park the car and then try to re-start again to see if it will stumble again and it didn't! Car ran fine! Next morning, on a cold start, it starts just fine. I drive to work another 50 miles, went to the bank to get some cash, restart again, and now it's stumbling again! Got to work and no starting problems after the initial stumble just like above. Any ideas please? I must add that I have the infamous exhaust leak due to the broken end bolt by the firewall. Please help.
  22. I don't think the choke not being connected has anything to do with it. The choke's job is to ensure a rich mixture when starting a cold engine. The choke must then opens up a little at a time as the engine heats up (manual or automatically). Maybe if your choke is stuck to cold, then the mixture will be rich but I don't know if that's enuf to make the engine quit. In carburetors, at least what my Holley manual says, there could be vacuum leaks (or more accurately, air leaks into the vaccuum). The book says to use carb cleaner and spray around the areas you suspect air leaks like the carb base mounts, throttle spindle, etc. If by spraying, you see sudden improvements, then you've found the leak or leaks. With vacuum being less, then the signals would be weak and the car could run very rich. Also, check the idle adjusments as well as the air bleeds for the idle and main fuel well. I know my contribution to your problem is somewhat generic but I thought I'd give you some insights I find in my book that may help you find the prob. Cheers.
