(1) your going to need a hood bulge/scoop just like Im going to on my vette (2)now you need about a static 11.5:1 compression to get a dynamic 9:1 compression with a cam like that but assumeing you have a dynamic 9.4:1 compression (youll need high test gas) you can get about 530hp/530 tq if its tuned correctly according to the computer but with a wider torque curve than the magazine engine (3) GET ONE out of almost any EFI 8 cylinder mercedes benz from a salvage yard they normally produce 80psi and more flow than domestic pumps and Ive bought them for $78 in salvage yards -
c-2 vette/c-5 suspension/engine some of you have always wanted a early vette with a late model engine and trans, well heres your next project! http://home.earthlink.net/~mawj1/index.htm and yes your correct, before anyone says something,it really a C-1, its early and the coffee has not kicked in yet, I saw that mistake just after I hit the button but it was too late then!

first thing is that the EFI will produce even better power, its only the lack of air flow useing the TPI intake that keeps the EFI from making 500- 600hp, swap to a HOLLEY STEALTH RAM INTAKE, keep your EFI and lap top computer controls, they have far more mixture control, streetablity and mileage potential, the HOLLEY STEALTH RAM INTAKE and FUEL RAILS SELL FOR ABOUT $460 from summit, sell your TPI intake that should cover some of the expense, next you will need about 30lb-36lb injectors (30lbs will work but 32lb or 36 lbs are better choices, yes you will need the better heads, and btw one of the guys on chevytalk had already built that identical carbed engine and only got about 497hp so that build-up may be somewhat suspect or the dyno on one of the two engines was (OFF). DOUG over at CHEVYTALK/EFI forum can help you tune it also, (DOUG works with PAT MUSSI and gets well over 500hp useing a single plane EFI intake and says the STEALTH RAM will produce even more hp as it flows even better)plus with the stealth ram youll be able to tune to pass emission tests, something that carb will never do.what it basically comes too is that a 383 of about 1.5-11:1 compression with those heads or the 210cc AFR heads and that roller cam can make good power, but don,t sell your EFI short its good for even more power that the carb, its the TPI intake that SUCKS to give you an idea of what Im talking about one of the guys at the vette site had a stock tpi and standard vette heads flow tested and they flowed 180 cfm, a highly modifyed tpi can flow 230cfm, but the stealth ram flows 300cfm that enough for 600hp. the formula for potential hp from airflow is (.257 x airflow x 8=max potential hp) so the MOST a stock TPI intake can support (180 x .257 x 8=370hp)(modifyied 230 x .257 x 8=472hp)( stealth ram 300 x .257 x 8=617hp) see the differance now the 195 cc heads flow about 280 cfm so they not the stealth ram get you about a 575 hp limit, go to the 210cc AFR heads and your back to over a 600hp limit but the 383 displacement allows either head to work well, on a stroker 427 small block the 195cc heads would be a restriction. -
here I posted this, hopefully he will go for it, have an Idea that may realy help this site, now I know you may not think so but please try it and see the results before making up your mind, the more diversifyed sites have no trouble keeping busy, so heres what you do, add these forums, Ill do the moderating untill you find someone else that wants too. (1) engine swaps (VETTE POWERED (Z-cars, ETC.) (2)suspension /brakes/transmission mods (6) turbos/superchargers/nitrous let : Tom Talbott run these if he will but divide them up don,t group them as OTHER VETTES (3)c-3 vettes (4)c-5 vettes (5) c-2 vettes

GOOD IDEA! Ill ask the site owner

462624 1976-87 305 - 350 1.94 / 1.5 r 2.02 / 1.6 462624.....75-86...350/400......76cc chamber, 1.72/1.5, 1.94/1.5 or 2.02/1.6 valves they are standard chevy heads, with little performance potential. they have 161cc ports and 62cc chambers, porting will help but thier still a basic lost cause if over 425 hp is a goal without nitrous

yes it is, please remember to sign up as new members, theres no reason to let an additional source of chevy info drop off the net, the more info available the better off we all are! now you guys are the real hot rodders with your small car/big engine combo,s and any 2800lb (Z) will out run most 3300lb vettes but theres no reason not to keep as much info as possiable around! after all your cars will always have the advantage and no ones asking you to spend more that a few minutes a week there!

the guy running this board http://www.c4board.com/cgi-bin/ib3/ikonboard.cgi thinks he might shut down if he does not get more traffic, so go sign up and look the place over as it does have chevy info you can use on your cars

Why dont you guys write you own manual?
grumpyvette replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
not a bad idea, with all the combined talent available on this site it would be fairly easy -
big block from hell, for those who missed it!

whats interesting is the info on the problems they ran into like the oil pan that caused loss of oil pressure and maufacturers refusal to fix its design, the cooling problems and how they were corrected,ETC, yes I can and have build way over 750 hp with a bbc engines, Ive done it several times but its the little things that you learn along the way that make for a great combo! this article has lots of good info, don,t get hung up on the hp #s, this was done years ago and technology has advanced quite a bit but theres still things to be learned by reading. heres more bbc info, but don,t let the guys make you think only oval port heads work well! it totally depends on your combo,s rpm range, displacement, gearing, weight, cam timeing, etc. http://fteufert1.home.att.net/bbchevy/bbchevy.htm http://roadsters.com/bbc/#prep http://roadsters.com/bbc/#bore http://roadsters.com/bbc/#oval http://www.chevelles.com/racing/BBCombo.html http://www.edelbrock.com/automotive/raceheadbbchev.html http://www.dragraceresults.com/worldcastings/ big blocks like more compression, bigger carbs and a slightly larger cam than small blocks if thats what your used to building btw -
solid roller lifters- 40,000 street miles possible???
grumpyvette replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
crane has a very good track record for both hydrolic and solid rollers,Ive used comp cams, erson, crower and they are all ok but crane seems to have the best reputation for durability. most roller cam failures are caused by useing the wrong clearances or the wrong weight springs so check everything carefully. http://www.cranecams.com/master/lifter.htm -
Searching for perfect cam-engine dyno please
grumpyvette replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
the schnider cam torque peaks near 4500rpm and hp reaks at 6000rpm the isky torque peaks at around 5500rpm and hp peaks at 6600rpm the schnider cam is by far the better match to a 406 engines piston speed rpm limits and cylinder filling efficiency, flow curve, and its somewhat doubtfull that the isky cam would really run on the street that well for trips if its most effective in the 6500-7000rpm range, btw both cams are really not ment as street driven cams, might I suggest the CRANE #119651 hydrolic roller cam, true it will drop your peak power to about500hp/520 tq but it will raise the torque at 2000rpm from about 260ft lbs with the other two cams to about 420ft lbs at 2000rpm and be far easier on your valve train (important on a power tour)as its a HYDROLIC ROLLER it peaks the torque at about 4500rpm and hp at about 5000rpm http://dab7.cranecams.com/SpecCard/DisplayCatalogCard.asp?PN=119651&B1=Display+Card replaceing broken valve springs in turkey strut oklahoma or blue hills wisconsin can be very difficult -
Searching for perfect cam-engine dyno please

what is the best performance carburated 350
grumpyvette replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
the 1970 lt1 was about the hottest carburated 350 I can remember and it was rated at 370hp,but with good aftermarket parts 400hp PLUS is fairly easy to get so tell us what your cars weight, trans, rear gear,ETC are and how much $$$$$$$$$ your willing to spend on the project and we can advise you on parts to purchase but keep in mind the engines displacement can be increased to 383 quite easily and that helps torque quite a bit and the extra displacement helps the hp also, and that the heads and cam must match the rpm levels your building the engine for. -
I talked to ERSON today, they do NOT show those numbers or even any similar numbers in their data base, their guess is b23=23 deg standard heads 108=108 LSA 1180=? possiable grind number r=roller but don,t bet on it!the best advice I can give here is, because your not sure what youv,e got ,throw it away and order a new cam! is the price of a cam worth possiably damageing your engine?

Tell me what you think of this setup
grumpyvette replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
read this, beat them at their own game!it won,t be cheap but, a 415 built correctly for use with a twin turbo set-up will have little problem getting 1200hp/800ft lbs, something supras will never get! (run a methonol or TOLUENE base fuel and you can add 250 more hp!)(like I said it wont be cheap but an intercooled twin turbo on METHONOL can kick butt almost anywhere! some of the methonal twin turbo funny cars are way over 2000hp) http://www.montygwilliams.com/ http://www.skulte.com/turbo.html http://www.grapeaperacing.com/GrapeApeRacing/ -
