  5. thsnks for the info. i was using single stage but i can't remember which i used on which car, i used both. So when i paint my 81 what would every one suggest I ude single stage and go thru all the extra work or try 2 stage? any thoughts? tia bob
  6. I finally wet sanded and buffed my 82. This is PPG Omni single stage acrylic enamel (hence the long wait time). I sanded with 3M paper 1500 and 2000 grits, then buffed with Meguiar's #85, #83, and #3. What a TON of work! http://z.modeltrainguide.com/gallery/view_album.php?set_albumName=album39 so what do u mean beacuse it was ppg single stage that u had to wait so long? bob

  10. I am not sure if this is where this belongs but, I have a 88 300zx turbo and have had an exshast leak since last year, I replace the crossover pipe but the guy who did most of the work neglected to suggest i replace all gaskets, so last weekend I took the car out of storage and tore it down again this time we replace all the gaskets but the pipe that goes up from the manifold and hooks onto a part omnt the rear of the otor, any way it was stripped so I replace the part and fred it up and wow, it still ahs an exshaust leak. does anyone have any ideas or know of somwhere I can get it fixed?I live in Springhill NS, next to Amherst. Most exshast palces don't know enough about nissans to attempt such a job. Please HELP bob
  11. well my plan is to install a steel channel and cover it , I think I can do it , I have been super busy so haven't had time to do ay work, I am hoping to get back at it within the next 2 weeks , if I do I will post some pics then, I know there is a lot more to do to it than the earlier models but I have to work with what I have oh well , later bob
  12. well here is one of my favorites and another shot And here is a black owned by the same guy Of course I still am working on mine LOL. I hope to be able to get back at it soon and will post pics as I go , Bye for now . bob
  13. I like the small window but I also like the curved fender as well, oh well whats is a z-der to do.lol
  14. so where do I get flares to fit a 81 zx? tia bob
  15. hey great job, if there are flaws they don't show. I have a 81 that I am changing the interior to black from red, I was planning on going to the new burnt orange that is on the new 350 z's but now that I seen your red it looks great. I quess thats the beauty of having a black interior , you have options. Looks great , keep up the good work .later bob
  16. So Vinh what are side skirts and where did you get them? btw were did you get your front and side kits and how much would something like that cost. I will keep you informed when I get back to work on it , i am working night and day right now, I am hoping to get back at it next month. later bob
  17. what car did you shave the door handles? later bob
  18. hi Vinh, i have seen your car before and actually thats were I got the idea from, so how did you do the sides , I don't think the rear is a problem but the sides may be a different story, do you have any pics that show what you did? btw I really like what you did with your 81 zx , it shows you can do anything if you put your mind to it, did you put anything under the rolled sheet at the rear in case of an accident? I am planning on putting a steel channel there as there is enough room. So if I cut the spot where it goes out then bend it in and reweld it , that should do it.??? btw how did you do the rear skirt behind the tire? SO many questions , so little time,,,LOL. thanks for the responses ....bob
  19. here is another pic sorry i can't get it bigger , I copied it from paint and can't seem to enlarge it , i wanted to show where I want to do repair , so I added that info in paint but now I have to fiquire out how to enlarge it, any suggestions? sorry about that bob
  20. OK heres what I'm talking about. On the rear I would have to install a sheet across the entire rear as it is not an even plane , i am going to install a piece of 3" channel then cover the entire end from the spot where it goes in and wrap it under , plus I have to do something with the sides where there is an 1/2 " comes out and while doind this try to wrap the piece around the sides and make it look OK so as you can see there is a large indent that has to be filled in,
  21. looks good , but OHH the black, i have one now and it looks good but you will be always cleaning it, either way it looks good . later bob
  22. heres a question , all the Z's I have seen shave the rear ends are early models that don't have a major dip in it my 81 does. All they require is a fill not like like what mine will require. btw are you not supposed to use any filler whether bondo brand or not, is there different quality. as you can see it is going to require a piece made to fit. I am really concerned about the body fill issue thou
  23. well I am glad you added that last bit as that is what I sprayed the last time was metallic single stage, so you don't do anything for them? BTW are you a bodyman or did you learn the hardway like I seem to be doing. Is there a good book to help with bodywork and paint, I did pic up a haynes and it not bad but if I could find a better book I would like it better , unless it cost 300 or so. later bob
