right now im using a cheap 200$ MIG. and it really turned out nicely for the amount of time and effort I put into it. eventually I will be buying a TIG welder and fabbing up a set in alum. instead of steel . I will probably add a sealing bead around the ends to prevent the hoses from blowing off under high boost pressure (that my will probably never see ) anywho, thats my story and im stickin to it!

LMAO S30Z Bushido! haha thats some good stuff.

somebody on this board once suggested tack welding them in the right bend/shape, then covering the seam in JB weld and sanding it down/painting it. I used alum steel pipe for mine. I spent about three hours cutting and welding them together, then i sealed of the ends and fill it with water, letting it sit over night, if the water level dropped..or the weld was wet I knew i had a leak and just ground the old weld down and threw a fat bead over it.... test and repeat.

I have a Yakima A1 rain gutter system on my Z. its removable, and has plenty of attachments for whatever I feel like putting on the roof of my Z. it looks kinda funky though, the Z is so small...and sticking a mountain bike or snowboard on top makes it look very top heavy.

Anyone interested in aluminum hubs for 70-78 Z ?
Sparky replied to a topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis

BAH POP UPS!!!! those things drive me nuts.

this is an incredibly popular engine in europe. Its used in almost every new Caterham 7, and often found in "locost" sevens as well. uscaterham.com sevensandelises.com (not 100% sure, at school so cant check) the above are good US sources for these engines. I wouldnt hesitate to put it in a Locost, but I could think of better 4 bangers to put in a Z or 510.

yes. I beleive I sent you an e-mail requesting those some time ago. ...im still interested, especially if they will be 5-lug hubs, and even more so if you can make your big brake hats in five lug as well. although I have a feeling that I will be one of the few interested. -
Might be moving to Cali, can I get a clarification on smog?
Sparky replied to Sparky's topic in Non Tech Board
Thanks for the info everyone. I'm really excited, and very nervous. its a big move but I can say with confidence that I'm all revved up and ready to go. I really wish I knew if my Z was coming or not, it would be a shame to leave such a beautiful piece of machinery behind, But I just don't know If i can afford to take it. Besides that, I'm not even sure I'm going to need a car where I'm going, my girlfriend never uses hers, so shes more than willing to let me use it whenever possible. its a tough call. but there is no way I'm going to sell my 72....but what to do with it? its going to happen early January, though I really just want it to happen ASAP. whew! its going to be a hectic couple of months! PS. whats the nearest Zcar club? -
Hey gang, I might be moving out to Monterey CA early next year (90% chance) and I wanted a little help deciphering some of the smog laws. Reading through the archives I came upon some contradicting info regarding early 240Zs with the turbo ZX drivetrain. some say that its completely exempt, while others say that its not exempt because it has a newer drivetrain, and some people state that the inspection stations cannot legally open your hood on exempt vehicles, so they would never know whats under the hood. Can a Cali resident with the right info please step up and clarify this for me? should i leave my 72 in Texas, or bring it on out? thanks in advance. ALSO, is anybody from around that area? Im going to be looking for a job and a place to live around Jan of 2004. anyhelp is of course appreciated.

hey mike, It might be cheaper to just pay somebody here to drive it out there for you. that is, if you can find somebody to trust. But, from my experience, as well as several others from the board, its going to be easier to trust a hybridz member, then allot (if not most) of the shipping companies. chances are, somebody here could drive it to you in about 12 hours if they drive non stop. geez...even you could buy a one way ticket on a friday night, and be back in houston by saturday night/sunday morning. it certainly would be an interesting experience, as well as a story to tell. Glad to hear you made it to houston A-ok. finding a part time job should be easy as cake, there are a fare amount of speed shops or machine shops that would probably hire you on under an apprenticeship deal. ...also... most shipping costs will run up into the 600$ range for an open carrier. If you get into the enclosed carrier, your looking at around 1K.

I agree with Aaron 100%. The key to a healthy relationship is an understanding of each others personalities and passion in equal parts. I would have to say that my Zcar hobby ( a very expensive hobby to have) is a big part of my life, and what I like to do. If my current girlfriend tried to tell me that I coulnt do it anymore, she would cease to be a girlfriend from that point on. Just sit her down and talk to her about it, try to explain it in a away that she might be able to identify with. also, why not sell your nicer daily drivr and buy something cheap to get around in..use that money for the Z...or throw it to your fiancee as some hush money easier said than done. but sometimes it just takes some outside sources to tell you what you already know, in order to make it happen. good luck,

There is no way that even the best CPS org. could stop all cases... May i suggest that potential parents get screened before hand to asses thier "ability" to succesfully raise a child. a license to breed if you will. It sure would save alot of children, alot of time, and alot of our tax dollars. not only that but it would be possible to only allow the strongest genes to pass on. anywho...thats just my opinion. I could go on and on and probably piss off a bunch of people in the process. but I wont. but this guy is a sack of crap, set him on fire and use a steam roller to smash it out. laterZ

question about interior setup with a tv and a laptop.. etc
Sparky replied to a topic in Miscellaneous Tech
hey mike, check out this guys website: http://www.mswanson.com/audi/Interior%20Upgrades/lcd_screens.php he did something like that, but using a direct output from his ECU to the displays. kinda cool, and you could get some good direction from his site. ALSO, your going to be living in a LARGE metro area with one of the higher rates of theft in the country. I hope that you have a good alarm and a lojack just in case. (wheel locks too!) Your car has alot of pretty-pretty parts on it, and its going to stick out like a sore thumb with a "steal me" bandaid. the last thing i want to see on the boards is a post from you about how someone jacked your shizt. so maybe instead of adding more crime bait to your car, you should protect it. my .02c and in other news, my car might finally be getting back from paint on nov1st! over a year later. woo-hoo -
need to look for a z for my lt1, which i don't have either
Sparky replied to a topic in Gen I & II Chevy V8 Tech Board
where are you located? Im going to be selling my project in about 6 months anyway...but if you want to pick it up i might be convinced to sell it. its a 73 240Z NO frame rail rust. slight floor rust...but with a V* you would want to reinforce the floors anyway. lemme know. -

why not go back to school? Sell what you can and get out of cali, the cost of living there is insane. once you sell your things you will feel like a rich man if you move to a less costly area. If you sell off your house and boat, you might have enough to go back to school and pursue whatever degree you want, all the while living off your savings. this doesnt sound like a great life, pinching ever penny, but in the end you will feel better about yourself, and have gotten something out of it. (and your never too old to go back to school. ) I was a mechanic for a while, it was a great place too, nothing but vintage race cars and a trip to races everyweek, but it got old.....just like everything does, but you realise that that job not only gets old, but it gets you knowhere very fast. the I went into the culinary arts, been doing it for three years. I moved up very fast and had lots of potential....until i hit the corp. brick wall. you realise about the only way to get ahead is to open the door yourself. thats basically what "rich dad poor dad" goes into. Its well worth the read. Now, im back in school, seeking my business IT degree with a minor in japanese. (although everyday I sway between that and chinese) either way I know that thats finally the start of a career, and not just a JOB. its also something that will enable me to open my own business, im not tying to be a millionare, just trying to be happy. Im also taking some writing classes, so I can better convey my thoughts to the members of HybridZ.org But anywho, there are plenty of cheap places to live that have good schools in the area. they might just also be Z friendly. -
Im not 100% sure on this, But I believe that yellowstone is the worlds largest RHYOLITIC volcano, Its true that it is a caldera, but that is an end result of past eruptions. one of my profs. was a volcanologist, and he went into great detail about past mass extinctions caused by volcanic activity. Now that is some scary shit, not because it did happen, but because it WILL happen again. If such an event occurred. I wouldnt be too worried about that populations of 1st world countries, its the 3rd world ones that would suffer the greatest loss. even the losses of the US would pail in comparison to the losses of India, Africa, Mexico ETC. no immediate losses, but long term effects on agriculture dependant regions. especially those of post-colonial control. anywho....I was going to go on and on, but i think i would rather not think about the end of my life. just live in it now.

Hmmmm....study? Well, Yeah I GUESS I could do that, but then it wouldnt really be killing time since I would be learning something. I feel that in order to really kill time, You cannot do anything productive. but thats just my opinion. oh....And I did end up reading a couple chapters. 45 minutes till class.

so im at a small out of the way school computer station...when I look in the recently typed in web addys menu.....and what do i see? Hybridz.org! So im calling whoever you are out.... here i was feeling all alone in this school...when there is a fellow hybridz'er on campus...somewhere......at this very moment. hmmm... two hours till my next class.....how can i kill more time.

lol, thanks guys, i would LOVE to be able to drive my car on some 2x4s, hell, Id be happy if i could drive my car anywhere......considering it doesnt run ha! Oh what it must be like to have a running and driving Zcar. the stuff that dreams are made of.

Ive always jacked up the rear using the diff, UNTIL i installed my coil overs, now its a pain to get a jack that far under there. What I do is use two stock scissor jacks on both sides...then alternate until i can get the jack under the diff. IMHO, I wouldnt jack it up from the diff supports. they are not meant to support the weight of the car. my .02$

I just wish I was in your area so that I could help you out more. these projects are tough sometimes (ALL the time lol) most of us have been there and done that, knowing just what kind of frustration your going through. Im sure that you can and will always be able to find help and good friends here. Ive said it before, and ill type it again, this is the best place on the net hands down. It doenst matter if your seeking tech info, or just a friendly discusion. Hybridz.org is my home away from home....its just to bad I dont get to post much because of school and work. goodluck with your project mike, Some day when im out houston way, we wil have to meet up....ill bring my 240ZT and we can have a run or two!
