Yeah, Im wondering about that myself.
-
hey fellas, Just got this in the mail from a friend in japan: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/album_pic.php?pic_id=1339 im trying to figure out what Zappan means. im guessing its a style...kinda like pro-street here in the US. all the Zs in this mag are bad-AZZ...the have some killer starlets and AE86s as well. whew.....wish I lived there. anybody know what it really means?....and if any of you have this mag...his car is on a two page spread starting at 40. laterZ

after many colourful words and liberal use of penetrating oil/heat/BFH/10 ft pipe... I took my struts to mineke and they pull them off for 5$ each (SUCKERS!) It was funny as sin to see the big burly guy move the entire table that my struts was attached to.....they finally put it in the hyd. pipe bender and used a plumbers wrech with a giant peice of pipe to get them loose. whew....best 20$ I spent on my project by a long shot! anywho... mike, you dont have to cut the struts down if you dont want too. you could just make a spacer for the short struts. cutting down the struts and welding them back together just = more cash and work for you. When i did my coilover setup it took my 6 hours to do all four. thats inlcuding cutting, grinding, welding and painting. I had never done it before, and was a little nervous that I was going to muck it up. But in the end it all turned out great. jump right in and follow the directions. measure five times!....cut once... be confident that you can do it. its easy breezy.

wow, Very nice install. Welcome to the board, hope to hear and see more form you! -
I would also say that the hinges that hold the hatch on are heavier than the hatch (without glass).
-
I agree with Tim on this one. the hatch is feather lite without the glass. if you want to go way-cool on your car, spirit garage in JP sells a carbon fiber hatch that weighs in at 10 pounds! of course....it costs and arm and a leg...then just try to ship that thing! but yeah, the glass is the majority of the weight.

Finding a Decent E30 M3 can be a bit of a challenge, I can understand that he probably got excited and giddy at the site of this one, But please... If i was buying a car and saw that the title wasnt in the sellers name, and not even signed, I would tell the seller to kiss my bum, and the walk away. But, I can understand getting ready to live a dream of driving a badass M3 across the country, and getting alittle ahead of myself. (or letting known problems slip by) Live and learn...but the guy bought a corvette later! WTF is wrong with that guy.
-
you guys are nuts, Man I love this place.
-
yeah, I would say it sounds like a BIG air compressor safty valve going off. I personally love it. its not annoying at all.

Mike, I sold my last one about two months ago. keep a eye on ebay for some intercoolers, Just be aware of what your bidding on. Most factory ICs (such as starion/probe/volvo etc) dont really flow that well on high boost apps as they are meant for 7-10 PSI. also check out ebay for used EFI. I almost bought a used accel DFI for 600$ already set up for a L6T. while not top of the line, its still programable, and is widely used by alot of people. but of course, when dealing with other people (IE ebay) you never really know what your going to get. same with that link i sent you about the turbo engine. be sure to take a good look at it, and get a compression/leak down test performed. -S

Hey Mike, here are a couple of links to the posts I made about my progress: http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=117175&highlight=#117175 http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=117466&highlight=#117466 http://www.hybridz.org/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?p=117499&highlight=#117499 I sent you a PM about the turbo motor.

ALSO! I just got an Email about a ZXT engine for sale in florida somewhere, If you want the info PM me or send me an Email and ill let you know. Feel free to call me anytime as well.

I built my 240ZT on a budget of 4500. including the price of the car. what I managed to get was: 1972 240Z L28T engine with 70K miles GC coilovers KYB struts 16 BBS RXs 4 used tires 80% tread left sparco racing seat ST sway bars MS auto struts bars three inch exhuast Turbonetics Deltagate Huge intercooler 30x14x3 Mandrel bent IC pipes GFB Hybrid BOV VDO gauges Sabelt harness complete FI harness (not Z31) Toyota brakes and a full clean interior + lost of little things that add up. lots of paint a chop saw and a welder. I did it on a budget, to get a start. Its really difficult to go all out and get something to work on a tight budget, and schedual, as a matter of fact its almost impossible. You have alot of great parts already, Now if you go to school in the fall, you have 60+ days to get everything assembled. Do you really think you can count on anyone but yourself to get things done on time? Engine builders, just like painters, Take thier sweet ass time. And no matter how hard you push them, they will do it thier way, your screwed because they already have your engine, what are you going to do about it? also, Custom pistons? geez, how many guys here can chime in with stories about how long that takes! I found my engine through a local club member, he sold it to me dirt cheap, and its in great shape. You can find a used ZXT engine with harness for around 600$ on average. There is not reason that a decent running engine can get you around for a good long time while you slowly build your dream engine. Spend the money you saved on machine work and parts, on a good standalone EFI. and fiddle with the tuning, while keeping the boost at a moderate level. It will be plenty fun, and plenty fast. Then, when your engine is all finished, drive the car back home, and you and your father can install it during the christmas break or spring break. When you build a car like your doing, time is in no way on your side. Things will crop up, parts will get lost in transit, and things will be back ordered. its part of the game. Speed costs money, Zs cost even more, Building both at the same time takes TIME. Im not saying it cannot be done, I rebuilt mine from a shell in eight months, while working two jobs and trying to keep my selfish EX girlfriend happy/content. just realize what your getting into, and dont try to hard to make your dream car in two months, you will end up getting frustrated and disenchanted with the entire project. anywho, its a bit of a ramble, But ive been there/done that. and im doing it right now again. I have to finish my NA 1k budget 240Z in 63 days. inlcuding paint/body/interior/engine. Im strugling as we speak, Its still a pair shell, it still needs rust repair, and im STILL waiting on some parts so I can move on. tough little hobby we got going on here.

I thought about adding a flex pipe on mine, But instead just ran a seperate pipe and dumped it under the trans. I cant get over how insane it sounds when the wastegate opens! its like a jet airplane taking off! Anywho, Its not for everyone, But it makes it a bit easier for sure.

yeah they are cheaper....huh. Wonder what i was looking at to think the ebay ones were so much less? anywho...no...it comes with bulbs and the housing. the standard Z head lamp socket will plug right in. I wouldnt purchase them just yet, Wait to see what others on the board have to say. Im going to stand by my words though. I love the hellas. they come with standard bulbs thought, So if you really want the blue fake HID look...they you will have to but some different bulbs. they also dont have the small city bulbs like the Ebay ones do. (city lights arent legal here anyway.) im off to austin...during rush hour! yippie! good luck with your stuff. Also...some companies offer true HID conversion for H4 assemblies such as this guy: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=33710&item=2419774350 only thing about that....the H4 housings...(along with any other cut glass lights) are not meant to be used with HID lights. true HIDs dont have cut glass....they use the back of the housing to refract the light correctly. ...somebody correct me if im wrong.... laterZ

I bought mine from BMPD.com here is the link: http://www.bmpdesign.com/bmw/parts/catalog/lights_4.shtml there are lots of other places to buy, some a little cheaper, some a little more expensive.

if your going to a bigger bulb (in terms of wattage) than your putting more load on the factory 20+ year old wiring. Your asking for a fire...or some very hot wires at the least. as resistance in the wire increases...thermal output does the same. Running a relay with new wires will keep the wires nice and cool, as well as keep resistance low (low resistance, brighter lights) (in simple terms) Those are not true HIDs just HID look. Im telling you now that those bulbs are crap. do yourself a favor and but some Hella H4 conversions. they are about 30 bucks more, but the quality is well worth it, I have a set on each of my cars, and I have yet to burn a bulb (longest set is 4 years so far) Im not running the biggest H4 you can get, but instead only about 60watts. still plenty bright, and much brighter than stock. anywho...hope that helps.

Sparky replied to Sparky's topic in Non Tech Board
WHAAAA the historics just happen to be right when im visiting?...NAAAAAAA.. boy I hope this girl really loves me like she says she does. mas28O: Yeah, If I could afford it I would really conisdering making the bay area my home. I used to visit for a couple weeks every year. But even if i could move there, here in san antonio, we get away with alot more stuff than you californians do 8) but, at a cost of many 100+ degree days. in the end though, Im sick of TX, and calis a nice place to VISIT. but im making my way to Canada (girlfriends canadian) only problem is that she wants to move to hong kong! bah, anywho, Ive been searching for rooms and actually found one for 79$ a night at the grant hotel, built in 1920's, and at the gateway to chinatown...blocks from union square, north beach etc. doenst sound so bad does it? Ive got to consider that we wont be spending to much time in the hotel room, ive got alot of stuff to show her in SF. thanks for the advice guys, [/b] -

I thought about adding Sequoia National Park to the to-do list. Ive been all over cali. from top to bottom, but she hasnt. Its just a matter of finding what I think we might enjoy the most together, as well as being able to mash it into my tight budget. grrr....the gov'ment should pay for my vacation. its not like I take them all the time. from what i can tell. It looks as though i can count on 1000 miles at the most for a round trip. Thats really not to bad. considering it takes 600 something just to get out of texas and into new mexico. five days at 200 miles a day doesnt really make for a relaxing vacation. argh.....what to cut out. -
going to cali to visit girlfriend...need some driving advice
Sparky posted a topic in Non Tech Board
well, My GF just moved to monterray. But, I have already made plans to visit her in august. Shes only seen LA and southern cali, so I figured while I was there I would show her around north/central cali. we plan on seeing yosemite, San fran, and tahoe. leaving from monterray around the 15th and heading back around the 19th/20th. I really have no Idea how long its going to take us, or even if we will see it all. But what I need, is some info from the locals as to where the best driving roads are, as well as some general "cheap" hotels/or B&Bs are. the only place I really want a cool/cheap place to stay is in downtown frisco. all the other places we can manage best westerns and such. im looking over my atlas right now..... anyhelp or info would be sweet! thanks! -
I like my omelette with the folowing, five XXL eggs minced garlic, yellow onion and green bells (maybe roasted bells if im feeling sassy) fresh sliced mushrooms (the mushroom will loose flavor the longer its been sitting sliced) lost of fresh grind pepper and little salt and some HOT big n chunky salsa yummy yumm yumm. being a professional in the food industry, I rarely cook for myself. but when I do you best watch out! you guys ever cook ports? I love those things, with a little basil EVOO with some coffee extract! damn im getting hungry.
