Wheel Show! Post your pics of you wheels
biohazard53188 replied to k3werra's topic in Brakes, Wheels, Suspension and Chassis
looks like you bought the right tires -
The oil line comes from where the Oil pressure sensor screws into the block. Its on the right side of the block (opposite side of the Intake/ Exhaust ports). I fabbed up the return line on my oil pan my self, the stock 280zx turbos come with an oil return line/pipe connected to the oil pan. The one I welded to mine was a more gradual bend than the stock right-angle return. Search around the forums and you will find the info you need.

No it’s not risky. I did it on my N/A 280zx. The biggest problem I had was that it had recirculation ball power steering that shared the same space as part of the turbo setup. I ended up going back to N/A because I coincidentally had a rocker arm fly off a valve at the same time I turboed my engine. At the time I mistaked the dislodged rocker for being the turbo that was not working properly so I took it off and the problem still persisted so after a bunch of tests I finally removed my valve cover and there was the problem. I was kicking myself because I could have left my turbo on. You won’t have that space problem on your z. Don’t forget that you need to run an oil line to the turbo and you need a pipe welded on to your oil pan for the oil return. Because of the random complications I had it took me 2 days to do the conversion. I imagine with a 75 z it would only take a day. Oh and compression is higher on your N/A engine so expect higher power numbers than a stock turbo engine but dont even think about tweaking with that wastegate rod till you have some way to cool down the intake charge. The 6-7 psi of the stock 280zx turbo (t3) is almost pushing the limits for having no intercooler with the compression ratio of your engine. Anyway like my man MJ said, search around a bit

I don't think you can either. Its very stone age as far as ecu's go -
Fouled Plug after removing my turbo
biohazard53188 replied to biohazard53188's topic in Trouble Shooting / General Engine
Wouldn't that just consist of unplugging it? In that case doesn't unplugging the battery do the same thing? (sorry that could be a dumb question) -
So I just recently installed a turbo on my n/a 1980 280zx. Turned out the turbo needed a rebuild so I removed it. I reinstalled all of my n/a components and noticed that my car was running like crap. I started removing the injector plugs while it was idling and the only one that did not make a difference was the number 5 injector. I tested the wiring harness and it was reading about 14 volts so it checked out ok. I figured it was the injector (big assumption on my part) and purchased a new one. That wasn't the problem. I decided to check the plugs and sure enough plug 5 was fouled (it was all black). So basically my car is running on 5 cylinders and the lack of power is killing me. I replaced all the plugs and tested for spark and its still running like crap. Now my new plug on number 5 is starting to turn black (and oily). What could cause this? I searched around the forums and must posts pertain to improper air/fuel mixtures but I did not make any adjustments to that or timing so it must be something else.

Is it possible for these to spew out oil if not connected to the intake? I know the little piece it used to thread into the intake has some sort of valve in it. I test drove my z (Just turboed it) the other day without it connected and I noticed that I had oil sprayed all under my hood. It appeared to be coming from the valve.
-
Thats exactly what I did to mine. Now i just need to figure out how im going to fiddle with the intake. It seems the 1980 280zx does not have an egr valve on its intake. Im thinking Im just going to try to move my parts over to an n42 intake
-
Well i ended up cutting a bit and fit it in there. On top od that i had to bend the waste gate rod a little bit. Hopefully it doesn't affect anything
-
I went to put in my turbo today but it seems the recirculating ball power steering is interfering with the turbo. My next step is to cut the piece of metal that holds the waste gate actuator enough to clear the power steering. Has anybody put a turbo in an s130 with the Recirculating Ball power steering?

N/A Turbo Conversion Video Write Up

Looks like i figured my problem out. I had an extra fitting on an extra f54 I had laying around for my l28et build up(240z). Ill be starting the conversion when I get home tonight. Should be a fun couple hours in my garage. -
So i ran into a problem that may push my turbo conversion back to next weekend . There is a small block that connects the turbo oil feed line and the oil pressure sensor together so both can be connected to the same hole in the engine block. This item is missing and a turbo car at the pick n pull is next to impossible to find. What can i do to replace this block? Anything i can buy off the shelf? Or does somebody around the Sacramento area have one?

Actually I just visited some friends in Sonoma about a week ago. Its about a 2 hour drive so not too close. If I can get a hold of something that will work out for me I will be heading back over in that area next week. Maybe if we can sync up you can check it out. I'm just hoping Ill figure this out. Such a small part holding off all my plans for this weekend:nono: -

That might work. do you happen to know if the threading is the same for both the OPSU and the turbo oil line? -

N/A Turbo Conversion Video Write Up

I'm going to be leaving the electronics alone until i go to a smog ref so i probably wont include it in the first vid i post -
So I'm doing my turbo conversion on my N/A 280zx this weekend and I figured Ill film some of it along the way to make a sort of video write up to help anyone else who is looking to perform the conversion as well. Regardless it will be kind of interesting and fun to do. Any Ideas? I'm going to go over fabbing the turbo pan, parts, process, etc..... This will also be a California swap so I will go over emissions stuff as well. Give me your thoughts on this guys.
-
can anybody give me some measurements on where the pipe is located on the turbo oil pan? I'm planning on having this thing fabbed up and painted by the time my turbo stuff comes in the mail.
-
As far as i know it is just a pipe for returning the oil to the pan nothing strange on the inside of the pan right?
-
Searched around and couldn't find any info this specific. I heard the only difference between the l28et oil pan and the l28e oil pan is the small pipe coming out of the side. So all I would need to do is grab an N/A oil pan and weld an oil return pipe on the driver side? would this work?
-
I searched around and didn't find anything that helped. I was considering taking my N/A s130 and turbo charging it. However I have two questions. Will the turbo exhaust bolt up to my head, my main concern is that my head has the round exhaust ports while the manifold is square and I am worrying about it sealing correctly. Also, will this modification affect my cars ability to pas California emissions? Thank you for the help.

thats because most of the people that own 240z's are stupid teenagers that think goin 80mph is really fast. 90% of 240z owners I've seen know there Z's very well regardless of age
-
Wow..... Hope you guys keep safe.

Finally got the car running up to par after chasing down some boost and vacuum leaks. Runs strong and pulls hard as crap. $700 for the rust free 260z and $350 for the turbo donor car. I sold everything I didn't need for $250 so that brings the total to $800. One hell of a fast car for $800. Anyway here are some revs. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Ci-z_fFlgo&eurl=http%3A%2F%2Fforums%2Ehybridz%2Eorg%2Fnewthread%2Ephp%3Fdo%3Dpostthread%26f%3D124
