  1. I agree, very open ended. Well If the rpms are shooting up when on a hill the clutch could be slipping. I usually stay at around a 3k rpm minimum on hills depending on the grade of incline. But if the rpms aren't loosely jumping around they it may be some sort of fuel problem such as dirty clogged injectors or possibly timing issues. You may want to test drive it yourself before trying to figure out what kind of problem it has. Also, Ill say this before anyone else does because I know its going to happen. You might want to try a search and browse a couple pages of results. I got through a whole engine swap that way so I'm sure you will find your solution there. If you cant find anything try to get a little more specific here. Good Luck!
  2. Hi, So I just bought a turbo parts 280zx for my 260z parts swap (best 350 bucks ever). Anyway the 280zx is an automatic I would like to bolt up the 260s 4 speed which from what Ive read on the forums is possible without my mods. Now Ive searched but I cannot figure out what ECU's will work with this engine. Theres an automatic ECU in there right now, would a standard 280zx N/A ecu work or is it crucial to have the turbo ECU. Im guessing this the second choice. Also will I need a different wiring harness seeing as my turbo is auto and Im switching to manual. Thanks a bunch guys, you have always been so helpful!
  3. I think gas or simple green sounds like a pretty safe way of doing it, I just want to keep the valve springs and cam on there when I do it. So should I spray it down with water afterwards to get all of the chemicals off? Or would that lead to rust? I'm thinking if I dry it really good afterward than it will be ok, but thats why I'm asking the experts.
  4. Hi, I'm just starting to learn about working on engines directly and I am taking apart a l28 and the engine is very greasy. I would like to use the head on a 240z but I am not sure how to clean all of the grease and old oil off of it properly. Engine degreaser? I'm not sure if its ok
  5. hmmmm..... so maybe a rebuild down the line? anyone know the ballpark price of a rebuild? Thanks a bunch for the info guys!
  6. So ive had my 280zx for a while now and ive noticed that when its cold i will have a bit of trouble getting it into gear. It seems that i have to push a little harder than I should have to. This problem only seems to happen in 1st and 2nd. It also happens when the car is hot but its not nearly as bad. Whats wrong?
  7. Can somebody get a real life photo of the current log in screen that would be a nice update
  8. How about this, I Just whipped this one up
  9. Heres my 1980 zx. Its just lightly modded, exhaust, intake some simple things. New wheels to come soon. We jokingly call my Z SALSA becuase that s what the license plate frame said on it when I bought the car so i just left it. This pic has my old speedometer in it, now i have the 130mph unit
  10. Awesome, thanks guys. Ill look into that. So I guess the sound is the differential pounding on the car?
  11. So my friend is looking to buy a 77 280z from his boss but the only noticable thing that we find wrong with it (for the price) is when we give it full throttle while driving there is a large clunk sound in the rear. It accelarates fine but this seems like a problem. What could this be?
  12. Ok thanks for the info guys! Anyone by chance know the model of the muffler that is included with the msa Aluminum 280zx N/A. I threw away the box like an idiot lol:mrgreen:
  13. so mine is fine then? Im not missing out on any power or noise? lol
  14. Ok, I did my exhaust a couple of months ago (MSA Aluminum Exhaust) and after browsing around on the site ive seen people who have mounted their muffler the opposite way with the same exhaust system as me. For example on my dynomax muffer one side has the inlet (or outlet) in the center and the other side of the muffler has it on the far right. Are mufflers directional? If so how should it be mounted? Forgot the pics haha
  15. Its for cruise control. Speed control=Cruise Contol:)
  16. Im a student as of now and I work at Staples . Keeps my Z going and thats really one of the most important things I have in my life.
  17. dont ask me how i found this thread but im 6' and 130lbs.
  18. God that is one sexy exhaust! Looking good.
  19. Its so it clears the rear part of the body and stays clear of the tire. Heres the thread. http://forums.hybridz.org/showthread.php?t=117725. You will see what i mean.
  20. I was thinking about getting the MSA type 2 body kit. Seems to eliminate the bumpers.
  21. Ive been considering removing my bumpers from my 280zx because they are huge and kind of ugly. Honestly I would like to take some of the weight off the car as well. Ive been having a hard time imagining what it will look like without the bumpers and have yet to find any decent pictures. Whats youre oppinion on the subject? Post a pic if you have one.
  22. Great job! I was very impressed with the molding of the front air dam and the headlights.
  23. We are going to get the current engine running first so we can learn more about the first gen z's and test all of the components that are going to work with the new engine once we swap it out
  24. So far we have changed all the basics, replaced various hoses, changed out some of the fuel components and tested some paint out on the hood which will be fitted with turbo scoops. We got the gas tank back from the boiler last week and just instaled it today (we are planning to get everything we need running before the swap). Good news is that the engine is turing over fine when we turn the key, bad news is that the fuel isnt getting past the pump. I checked the voltage and the pump is getting power so i think its just had its better days and its time to change it out. So much for us planning to fire it up today. Anyway heres some pics! The sunroof... not my doing but kind of stylish:confused2 The hatch area after a good anti rust spray
  25. I was looking at this "Performance Module" on ebay that claims to add 10-18 HP. I wanted to know what the deal is with this and has anybody here used one? My friend ordered a racing chip from ebay for his Civic (Barf) and when it came in the mail he opened the package and it was a transister, hahaha. But seriously, is the the same kind of thing? Heres the link: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Nissan-200SX-240SX-280ZX-88-2006-Save-Fuel-Power-Module_W0QQcmdZViewItemQQcategoryZ33597QQihZ008QQitemZ180067107513QQrdZ1
