  1. or you can move to the middle of no where like me, where there are no emmissions whatsoever. I guess the air over me never circulates to the rest of the world. The only thing to race with is a couple horse drawn carts.
  2. Yep, blew up my 2 month old act 6 puck clutch doing 3k rpm launches. Let it burn just a little too long getting boost up and bam. Clutch disc bye bye. Learned my lesson, no more stooopid stunts like that, cost me a quick $300. When I put it back together its normal take offs for me. I was only slipping it for a very small amount of time to build boost, but that was enough to heat it up too much. Gotta find the limits of parts I guess.
  3. Yeah, that was me. I was just curious since this post came out close. I'll be interested to hear how the supercharged car performs.
  4. Ken, Is this the car that the LSD diff is going in? That thing should be fun. The only supercharged car I drove was neat because the power was real smooth. But I like that crazy turbo hit.
  5. BTW, i wasn't putting down your idea of using MS with the stock ECU. I thought about it before my conversion, but it seems that you have to keep many stock sensors and it is hard to now exactly which ones. If you have to keep the AFM that is a big downside, because the MS conversion gets rid of the AFM. I would say go ahead to MSnS that has spark control and use a bosch knock sensor unit with it. I believe a few people are doing this on the MSnS yahoo group, you might check into that. The more you push the limit of boost the less you can count on the knock sensor to save your bacon.
  6. That is interesting, when I went to the local bearing shop here they had a book the guy pulled out and looked up the application, 83 nissan 280zx turbo with 5 spd. Ordered the seal and got the right one. Some places aren't enthusiastic about helping, but some are.
  7. I got mine at the local bearing shop. It use to be that some NAPA stores specialized in bearings and seals. Good Luck
  8. A computer may control knock, but first knock has to occur and then the sensor picks it up. That is still better than it just continuing to happen, but the point is that it still occurs with even knock control. I wouln't try to run in a condition that will cause knock and just rely on the ecu to keep your engine together.
  9. There was a black wire in the stock configuration of your car that went from the coil wiring over and plugged into that spade on the bottom of the distributor(there was on my 73 240z). I left that in place for the turbo conversion(I just removed the dropping resistor from the coil circuit and used the turbo coil in place of the 240z coil). I have long since swapped to the MS computer, but I still have that wire routed the same way. I would have to look at my car to remember how that black wire connects to the coil.
  10. One problem with providing an accurate VE table for the engine is that the fuel delivery must be exact for the VE table to be exact. I am just talking from MS experience here, but if my injectors open close time is not exactly what I tell the ECU or fuel delivery is off a little then a tuned VE table will be off a little to compensate. Not sure how accurate of numbers your looking for, I could send you my table and if it doesn't correlate to others you could just toss it. Maybe if you got 3 or 4 tables from some of us you could compare and come up with an better guestimate.
  11. 19" wide, 9" tall and 2" thick It looks like all of them are the same width and thickness, just different heights? It looks like a tight fit around the radiator, may have to put it out in front of the radiator farther.
  12. For the first test I only used 10psi because I was comparing to no intercooler. But now that I am comparing intercoolers I will probably do 10,12,14psi, but remember that is at 6400" altitude which is 3psi less than sea level for absolute pressure. But anyway these are just for fun tests and maybe they will contain some useable info. The bad news is that I bent my clutch fork today so now I have to pull the tranny again so don't hold your breath for this test. I am also changing from 3.7 gears to 3.54.
  13. I saw a place was parting an NPR in the paper and went to check it out. Picked up the small NPR IC for $40. I am going to put it in to replace my saab 9000 IC and run pressure drop and cooling tests again using MSnS. This one measures about 19" wide, 9" tall and 2" thick. I believe this is the smallest of the NPR intercoolers that people typically use so it will be interesting to test it against the saab IC. More to follow.
  14. I'm not getting after you, just the idea. If it takes a bunch of batteries then it will have to be recharged like an electric car all the time. The engine is not going to be able to power the vehicle and charge a bunch of batteries. Seems like just sticking with straight electric car would work better. Sounds like somebody will be setting back laughing at all the guys trying to get the tuning fork thing working. Nothing against you, build one and prove us all wrong, then charge a lot of money for it and laugh at us.
  15. The slip yoke is hard to find so once I found one I kept the info around. Slip Yoke number is 1203-26S sold by Powertrain in CA this slip yoke uses the u-joint on a 240z driveshaft so watch out if you are using some other driveshaft I used my 240z driveshaft and had it shortened about 1/2inch to 3/4 inch, can't remember exactly. I don't have a number for powertrain, but any local diff shop should be able to look them up and get the part.
  16. Ok, I seperated water into hydrogen and oxygen gas using electrodes in chemistry class back in high school and the rate at which the gas was seperated could probably run a motorcycle for a piss ant. But if there was a faster way to do it without requiring an industrial power plant being towed behind I suppose it could work. I am always open minded, but I remember this being a small yield operation.
  17. My brother was there, I told him to put on the catchers gear that we have for little league baseball and then I would film some footage for jackass, but he said no.
  18. I sold the van a while back, but I didn't want to change all of my internet profiles. It busted all kinds of stuff that was outside, patio furniture, toys, 5 gallon buckets, fence, and 1 jack rabbit, poor little guy didn't stand a chance. The hail was bouncing off the ground about 3 feet high.
  19. We got about baseball size hail on Sunday and it totaled my car and truck. The z car and a buddy's AWD talon are in the garage so they are ok. My roof is destroyed, cars totaled, windows in the house broken. It was an awesome display of power. Everybody is ok so on down the road we go. Not sure when I'll get back to working on the 240z.
  20. Looks to me like there is plenty of room in front of the engine for one large turbo, but other than the turbo missing it looks awesome.
  21. In my car a taurus fan would not fit, but an olds fan from an 85 car fit because it has a funky design. I am not running a V8 but thought you guys may be interested in this. The olds fan is 2spd. It came from a 3.8l olds car which may make a difference on its cfm??
  22. From the numbers I had in the notebook and using the equations in Maximum Boost it shows a gain of about 15% at 10psi, which most people are running right at 200hp at 10psi non-intercooler, so a gain right around 30hp for this mod. Like you say, it may not hold at higher boost levels and it is more restrictive than most. But sometimes the cost, convenience, and goal makes a cheaper solution into a good solution.
  23. The sad part is that I live out in the sticks next to all of those type guys, but I'm not one.
  24. I have my wife help hold the bottle in the engine compartment and I use a hose down into the tranny fill plug. Works pretty good and gives an excuse to get her envolved.
