  1. First of all I am swapping the BW t-5 from 83 280zx turbo into 73 240z. Here is what I think I know: I can use my 225mm clutch, disc and pressure plate (240mm would be better but I don't have one right now), I can use the 240z master and slave cylinders for the clutch, but what I'm not sure about is the throwout arm and throwout bearing. Do I use the ones on the 240z or the ones on the BW t-5? I seem to remember a couple posts about the throwout bearing collar being different on some cars and the throwout arm being different for some pressure plates/bellhousings???. Can someone clarify this a little. I am aware that the t-5 has different output splines requiring a different yoke, but the input shaft splines are the same so either clutch disc will work.
  2. http://www.geocities.com/chmwatson/FAQs/mbc.html Just curious if anyone has any experiences with this.
  3. I used the water pump pulley that was on the 280zx engine. I used fan blades that came from 240z. I removed the extra pulley from the 280zx engine that was bolted onto the front of the harmonic balancer. Just to clarify.
  4. oops, I posted on the V8 forum, but are those pictures from the ebay auction. I saw one sell on there several months ago.
  5. Seen one go on ebay several months back. Is that where you got the photo from? It was a full floor pan like that.
  6. Its all bone stock right now. I wanted to get everything running right first, then start upgrading.
  7. Since I got my turbo 240z running a couple months ago the experience has been up and down. I haven't had the time to spend with the car to get everything fixed, so I have just done what I can. Well, from the start it had not been running right. After a few test drives and some debugging I got what was a pretty good ride, but still wasn't running right, missing a little, not pulling all the way to 6K. So Saturday I go for another drive after trying a couple more things, same ole stuff, not pulling right. I come back and recheck all of the electrical connectors, vacuum hoses and then for whatever reason I tap on the FPR with my leatherman and engine smooths right out. I hop in and take it down my driveway, OMG it has never run like this. Told my wife to jump in and we went down the road, all dirt around my house, hit turbo in third gear at about 55-60mph and I thought we were going to crash, started fishtaling. It gets wild on the dirt now. Took my dad for a ride down the to pavement on Sunday and oh man did it feel good. The switch to second gear got a significant amount of rubber with new radials and dry pavement. Now I am impressed with the turbo conversion, can't wait to get the rest of the small stuff fixed. Right now I am still running the 240 4spd and R180 diff, not sure how long they will last but I have the BW 5spd and R200 diff in the garage just waiting. If other guys are out the waffling on their turbo conversions like I was, get that thing finished, you won't be dissapointed.
  8. Sure enough, I just removed the extra pulley, had six bolts holding it on. Now I am using my 240/260 plastic blade clutch fan, no problems. Just wanted to follow up in case somebody looks this up in the future.
  9. Could do that, I was just trying things out that I had laying around already. Sonner or later I will have that intercooler up front though...
  10. Oh, that's bad, I never even looked at the pulley, I figured it would all be one unit. See, I'm really a chevy guy. I'll check that out tonight, thanks
  11. Let me know if you have one and we'll get together. I'd like to check your car out.
  12. I am running L28ET in 73 240z. I need to install fan blades, but they have to be from 280zx to clear the extra pulley on the engine. I am running 280z radiator with the turbo engine. I only have less than 3.5 inches between the water pump pulley and the radiator. I tried to fit an electic taurus and buick fan, but no way, even after hours of trimming. Do you guys know if the 280zx fan blades would fit, I guess I just need to buy some and see. I have seen people say that they stick to far forward and will hit the radiator. Does anyone have a fan blade from 280zx for reasonable price, I could just try this out. I only need the blades, not the clutch.
  13. go to my website and look in the rust area, that might give you an idea how to spot it on an assembled car(mine is disassembled of course) http://www.geocities.com/moby_the_van/rust.htm
  14. As for question number 1, I plugged my EGR because I had to, threads in the manifold are no good. The car runs great with it plugged. It does not gain you anything, but does increase emissions.
  15. Bingo on the spider gear, I messed around with my open diff that is setting out on the garage floor and if you spin both "wheels" at the same time you get the correct gear ratio on the driveshaft. Scottie has also posted before that every time he has went with higher gearing(lower numerical) he lowers his ET.
  16. Somebody was working on some better instructions for the swap, but it isn't that bad. Go for it and we'll help you out with the details.
  17. I am suppose to have 3.54 R200 sitting on the garage floor. I tried rotating the "tire" one turn and got about 1.75 on the driveshaft. I will just pull the diff cover and see what the gears are, but don't feel too weird mine seems to be the same.
  18. I'm here, but I haven't got the MS installed yet. I am still trying to fix a few other things on the list. I am ready now to put in the BW 5 spd and R200 diff. One of these days it will be in there......
  19. Well, I just got in from driving the 240z turbo again. I am having problems with the fuel filter I put between the gas tank and the electric pump. It keeps getting air in it. I guess I'll go try to purge it one more time and take it for another drive.
  20. Just make sure you have a lot of patience and proficiencies if you are going to repair the rust yourself. I am doing my own rust repair, but it looks like it may take a couple years, because I just get demoralized everytime I go out and look at it. My car looked just like that and the front and rear of the rocker panels is also rusted out on both sides of the car. My solution to the problem..... I bought another 240 and stuck a turbo engine in it to drive until I finish the first one. The second car pacifies me until I can get the V8 car finished. I would never make it if I didn't have another car to drive once in a while and get me inspired again. Good Luck
  21. (deleted to clean up the thread)
  22. here is the link to the pictures http://www.angelfire.com/extreme/280zxt/page11.html
  23. I think if you look up the exhaust system that was for sale post you can look at pictures of it and get an idea how to make one. Search around in exhaust for the group buy downpipe and exhaust system, I think it was for 280zx cars.
  24. If you don't mind the ratios of the 700R4 in a manual transmission you can also look for the A833 4 spd manual. I got one of these for $500 with new clutch and resurfaced flywheel. They are a tough transmission and only weigh in at 80lbs, it is four speed overdrive, almost the same ratios as the 700R4. It is kind of hard to come by, but usually a little cheaper and definitely stronger than WC t-5. It is the mopar A833 OD transmission made for the mid 80's chevy diesel pickup. It has its own unique bellhousing to bolt it to sbc. Just FYI in case you come across one and you don't mind those gear ratios.
