  1. OK...slotted the holes and banged on the header collector a little with the BFH and the holes seem to line up now.
  2. OK...I must need to slot the holes a little more, because I can't for the life of me get the damn things to line up on the driver's side. I'm taking a break now, but, looks like I need to take the sledge to the headers or something... I'm *almost* there...
  3. On that note... I sat in and revved up a GTO with an LS2 in it the other day. Next time I'll be sure to bring a towel.
  4. Maybe splash some yellow in there for fun. It doesn't sound like a bad plan to me. I'm kinda going the same direction, only red and black. Exterior of the car is red, with dark tinted windows, engine bay is black, engine is red and black with some aluminum color and a tiny splash of chrome. Interior *will be* black with red/black seats and red/black steering wheel with maybe some aluminum pedals and a chrome shifte with a billet aluminum handle.
  5. LOL. No, I've never done track day. I kinda like my plastic all in one piece I'd more than likely get my butt spanked around the track like there's no tomorrow. Maybe if I had the funds to get an older 600 to learn and practice on I might consider it....but that would mean less money going into the Z.
  6. This is an interesting topic. One I've had many times, however...not usually about Z's, but, about bikes. You see, I ride an R1...which is basically 150hp in a 390lb machine. Very few machines will ever even come close to the same power to weight ratio as an R1 (or any other sports bike for that matter). (just to relate...a 2400lb Z would need 923hp and a 2700lb Z would need 1038hp). But, even though my R1 puts out 150 hp that doesn't mean I can always use that 150hp (unless I like laying on the ground). Sure, I could add a turbo kit, jetkit, exhaust, etc...and be well over 200hp...but, why? I can't even use the 150 it has. So, now I'm building a V8Z. Not because I want to build a 1000hp car, but, because I want something that sounds nice, has a fair amount of giddiup and go, and something that I can be proud to show to people. "Yeah, I did all of the work myself" I would concentrate less on the final destination and just concentrate on enjoying the journey.
  7. If you are internally gated now you could probably port your internal gate to help with any boost creep you might have. The Apexi won't open it's solenoid until you hit your desired boost pressure, so, it really doesn't matter which spring pressure you use.
  8. Thanks for the compliments guys. The headers came black, so, hopefully they'll look ok for at least a few minutes. I sat in a 2005 Pontiac GTO today and revved the engine...I can't wait to get this in and running
  9. Hmm....according this FAQ... http://h-body.org/library/hbodyfaq/hbodyfaq-10.html The 200R4 has a .6 final drive ratio...If I remember right the 700r4 has a .7 final drive ratio... That might mean it's better for highway cruising than the 700r4 is also.
  10. Unfortunately I don't think I have anything online at the moment and my Z is down while I am doing my swap...but...I just saw one today that looks very similiar... ...let's see...oh, here it is. http://www.zdayzevents.com/ Look at the Z on the very end. I'll look through my PC and see if I have any left of mine.
  11. That's too bad. I like my F40 style wing on my Z. At first it was kinda weird to look at, but, now...in my eyes, Z's look...umm...naked without one.
  12. OK.... Just a few updates. Got my Z ready for the swap. About the only thing left is to widen and elongate the mounting holes per JTR (is this absolutely necessary or just recommended?) I ended up finding some headers that fit closer to the block so I think I'll be ok. I had to get what fit in my budget. I also had to throw a little chrome on because my old alternator brackets wouldn't work with my new water pump...but, Chrome will be at a fair minimum on the engine. If all goes well the engine should at least be mounted in the car this weekend.
  13. Isn't the 200R4 what most Grand Nationals are running? They seem to be holding up...
  14. You could probably get a similiar effect with the MSA front spoiler and a little lowering...
  15. From the sounds of your original post, it sounds as though you're frustrated with your setup... I'd give it a shot.
  16. Then the fab guy should talk to the engineering and technical department so that the left hand knows what the right hand is doing.
  17. According to their technical and engineering department they aren't interested in any further V8Z development. I like about 8-9 miles from them and could take my car to them if they were interested... My car is very low, so, judging from the pictures I see in this thread there is practically no possible way for my to use their headers in my application.
  18. Skrich, Don't discount his words so quickly. There is truth in what he says. Not all imports garner their power from boost alone. Look at the Honda S2000. 240hp from a N/A 2.0L. Or look at my R1 engine. It puts out 150HP from 1.0L. Try to imagine a 855HP/550ft.lb. 350ci running on 91 Octane in N/A form...from the factory. There is alot that can be learned from studying Japanese engines.
  19. Please don't take this the wrong way, as it's not meant in offense. I think as you progress along in your quest to swap an GM engine into a Japanese car you will learn things and have questions about things that you *thought* you knew (and probably did concerning the type of cars you worked on). With that being said... Have you measured it to make sure it will fit between the frame rails on a Z?
  20. 240-280Z's routinely kick the snot out of everything else, including purpose-built road racers on road courses.
  21. I just got an email from S&S Headers saying they are not looking for any V8 Datsun Z's for product research on because they already have headers for the application
  22. Heavy Z, Thanks for posting pictures of your Z. I had been considering using locking hood pins in lieu of the hood latch modification, from the looks of yours it looks nice.
  23. The 4G isn't out yet There is such a thing has having too little weight in the front end. I thought about doing the 4G63/4G64 hybrid into my Z but abandoned the idea awhile back (you might be able to find the post around here, not sure)...maybe someday, I dunno...anyway, I recently met somebody who has an SR20DET installed into his Z and when I asked him about how well it handles his answer actually took me by suprise. Apparantely it handles worse with the SR20DET in than it did with his L24. The reason? It's not front end heavy enough which causes it to push quite a bit. I'd never taken that into consideration until talking to him. The biggest problem I ran into wasn't the mounts (there are, if I remember right, a matching pair of holes on either side of the 2G 4G63T that would be able to be used for mounts). The biggest problem is finding a transmission with proper gear ratios to transfer that power to the rear end, unless you followed the StarQuest folk's lead.
  24. So...how about the more mild engines? Say, a stock 350 with an aluminum intake, 650 carb, maybe a mild cam + headers.
