  1. The L28 is suitable but when I checked with Rebello a rebuilt L28 worked and around 250hp was $6000.00. A lot of money. I'm still open and in no hurry but I will look further into the LS option. Thanks to all for the feedback!
  2. Yes these threads are good indeed...I just didn't find them. Thanks to you for that. In addition it didn't take long to realize that swapping these engines into my 240 will be a MAJOR pain in the ass. I was expecting some compatibility but there isn't much. I guess I'll look harder at the LSA options. I was trying to avoid the drive line mods that seem to be necessary with the v-8. Thanks for all the help. Frank.
  3. I have almost finished with a cosmetic restore. I've owned this 240Z for 42 years. It's looking good but is SLOW. I've thought about an L28 and checked Rebello. Great power but lots of $$$. The shop that helped with some of the restore really want to do a Chevy LS swap. The budget would be around $10,000. The car would be a screamer...no doubt but I wonder if it will still "feel" like my 240Z. I had an experience back in the late 70's with a friend that put a 327 Chevy into a BMW 3. coupe. It was fast but no longer a BMW. It felt like it was going to fly apart everytime you got on i. To answer you let me say I'm still fishing. The appeal of the smaller high reving v-6 is greast. The Chevy seems like a lot of info. Bones (the shop) has had a lot of experience swapping LS motors into other cars (An AMC pacer was the strangest) but he is not as familiar with the Z. If (and it is a big if) a later Nissan V-6 will bolt up to my tranny well that wold save me a lot of work. I really appreciate your feedback thanks a lot. I'm adding a photo .
  4. I searched vg vq swap but got nothing . The reason I thought this might be easier than the LS swap is all the mods that seem necessary for the ls. DRive line, rear end, half shafts and different oil pans, headers and just a lot of things that would disappear if the later Nissan v-6 will mate with my 78 280Z trans. I want more power but don't need 400hp. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks.
  5. I'm thinking of swapping my L24 out for more power. The GM LSx seem to be really popular but are a lot of work. I'm wondering if anyone here knows about late model Nissan V-6.Will these engines mate to my 5 speed trannny? If so I only have to worry about the engine and everything past the tranny (drive shaft, rear, half shafts etc) will work. Looking forward to hearing from you. Thanks, Frank.
  6. I have a set of those too but I'm having vibration problems. They shake at speed. Do yours shake? If not did you find a way to stabilize them? They look good though. Just my .02
  7. I don't want to hijack this thread but I'd like to know how the R200 is holding up with the LS engine. I have an R200 (3:54) in my Z and I'm thinking of going the LS route. I won't be racing the car but I worry about the driveline. Thanks, Frank.
  8. How did this get solved? The suspense is killing me. LOL
  9. Thanks for responding but they are not the same and I've filled the order. Frank.
  10. Send me the photos at : frankiedandm@verizon.net
  11. Yes ashtray for the center console. I got one from Nelsonian. Thanks all for your help.
  12. I have a shop that does great work very reasonably in Ventura County: Martinez body shop 1205 N. Oxnard blvd. Ca. 93030 Phone(805) 988-3767 Ask for Julio and tell him Frank with the red Z sent you. I've owned my car for 42 years and it had gotten pretty rundown by 2000. I couldn't find a shop to restore it. Most want $12,00.00 and then still turned the work down. Julio took the job and did it for around $7500.00. The photo is "after" LOL. Hope this helps, although it may be too far for you. Good luck either way.
  13. I'm looking for a set of rear hatch louvers. Anyone have a set? Know where I might get a set? Thanks.
  14. Just checking back in to say my panels look even better now that the rest of the interior is done. Thanks again !!
  15. Here are a few shots of my "work in progress". I've owned it since it was new....42 years and still working on it. LOL
  16. These are the Konig 17" wheel from MSA. They fit the stock body (no flares needed) and don't hit anything. 225/45 17 tires
  17. The title says it all. I'm looking for a late 1971 240Z ashtray/fusebox cover. Anyone have one? Anyone know where I might find one ? Thanks.
  18. My budget of $10,000.00 came from a quote from "Bones fabrication...hot rods & muscle cars" a local shop. They have an excellent reputation and complete facilities. As for the rest of the car the body/interior and suspension have all been done. I'm in a little over $15k for that.
  19. I don't know what happened...I decided to try to post a pic "one more time" and it worked !!
  20. I need help with posting pictures. Mine seem to be too big (over 256 Mb). I know there is a way and someone will respond with the method (step by step). Thanks
  21. Sorry I've been gone...some family problems. Lost my Mom. Anyway I finally went with the Eibach progressive springs from Motorsport. Shocks are from Sears (believe it or not). I've owned the car for 42 years and around 20 years ago Sears had these heavy duty shocks "guaranteed for as long as you own your car". Well they lost money on me as this is the 3rd set I've gotten free! The shocks are pretty go0od...made by Gabriel. The result is very satisfactory to me. A little stiff but not excessive. I'm using the 17" Konig wheel from motorsport with 225/45-17 tires. Looks great too.
  22. This is really helping. Thanks guys. All my suspension parts have been done with the kits from Motorsport. After all I've owned this car for 42 years...WOW even I can't believe it. I also replaced the driveline with a 78 280 5 speed & R200. My tires are 225/45 17. I wasn't aware of all the things I need to know to do this. The shop I'll use is probably is aware as he does many swaps & builds engines. My concern is that he hasn't done any Z cars. It seems there are details such as different oil pans etc. I didn't really think much about the fuel tank either. The car will not be raced. More a Sunday driver. It's really looking good now & always get attention. I just want the swap for those few times when I want to see "that look" on the Porsche or corvette drivers face. LOL. I wish I could figure out how to shrink my photos. I will figure it out....give me time. As to my location, I live in Camarillo in Venture county. I'd love to see your car & take a ride in it. If you ever come this way let me know. Camarillo is about halfway between L.A. & Santa Barbara. Right on the 101 Fway. Thanks again.
  23. Thanks for the quick reply. I should have given some more background. I've owned my 71 "Z" since I was new...42 years. In that time the suspension has been completely redone. Not as drastic as some here with Tokico springs and shocks , all bushings replaced with nylon and rear sway bar/heavier front sway bar. It is not a track car but handles really well for the street. I recently restored the body/interior. I tried to post photos but for some reason they don't show up. I will try again. You have answered one of my concerns. Back in the 70's I had a friend who put a 327 chevy into a BMW 3.0. At the time a really cool car. It was really fast but driving it was not at all a BMW experience. When you got on it the car felt like it was coming apart. Part of that probably was the weight of the engine. Anyway the shop I'm working with is very experienced with LS engine swaps...just not into a "Z". One he did was an AMC Pacer. That is a real sleeper. The car is cherry & looks stock (except for the wheels/tires). The problem with photos is they are more than 256 MB. If you know a way to get around that let me know. Thanks again.
